Pres. Jonathan pays close to N1b in ‘severance’ to Yar'Adua family

From Sahara Reporters
The presidency has paid nearly N1billion to the family of late President Umaru Yar'Adua, according to an official memo obtained by SaharaReporters.
The slush funds were routed through the Katsina state government, the home state of the former president.
The payment includes about N150 million to Mrs. Turai Yar'adua, as well as the late president's aged mother, his married daughters, and sons
.
It is yet unclear if any provision was made for his second wife, Hauwa Umar Radda, whom the late president divorced in 1997, shortly before he became the governor of Katsina state.

Although she has received the biggest payout, it would be recalled that it was the controversial former First Lady, Turai, who pushed Nigeria to the brink of a political crisis between 2009 and May 2010 while her husband was hospitalized in Saudi Arabia.  He eventually returned and died inside the Aso Rock Villa.

Mrs. Yar'Adua was at the head of a cabal of Ministers, aides and security agents that manipulated the nation for many tense months as they clung to power, almost leading to the collapse of the government.

    4. Anon 11:09, I suggest you leave this place because you don't belong here. Turai worked very hard to frustrat this country and Ifind it difficult to disassocite her from Bokoharam.her Cabal has a strong hold on Jonathan and they share every money coming from the presidency. So hug a wet transformer bc we have not even started with her. Greedy woman.

    5. Tueeh! This country will remain in the rut it is for a long while. Bumped into Turia and her entourage of about 20 people, with her diplomatic passport(why does she have one?Being the wife of an ex president doesn't make her a diplomat - immigration take note) at Heathrow. Why is this woman still in the analysis? Jona has no backbone.

  17. A severance package is pay and benefits an employee receives when he or she leaves employment at a company.

Severance packages are most typically offered for employees who are laid off or retire. Severance pay was instituted to help protect the newly unemployed. Sometimes, they may be offered for people who resign, regardless of the circumstances; or are fired. Policies for severance packages are often found in a company's employee handbook, and in many countries are subject to strict government regulation. Severance contracts often stipulate that the employee will not sue the employer for wrongful dismissal or attempt to collect on unemployment benefits, and that if the employee does so, then they must return the severance money.Nigerians with their hate altitudes on their leaders..Just read and know the meaning before you open your mouth to curse GEJ..

  27. A billion Naira??? What on earth for??? Smh... I wonder if Mrs. Ajoke Mohammed, Muritala's widow got any money apart from her late husband's pension from the government...and this was a Head of State that was assassinated! If anyone should have received a billion Naira, it should be his family!

  28. DONT understand why Yardua is being paid; he's dead and buried, only served Nigeria for 2yrs and stole so much of our wealth....Yardua should be paying us back, and NOT GEJ stealing more money from the Nigerian govt. and doling it out like's it's his personal bank account. Who gave GEJ the right to pay Yardua zero kobo?!!! GEJ is a THIEF!!!!!!!!!
I cannot wait for Nigeria to run out of Money, then we will start feeding off of dumpsters and that's because the only way Nigerian Politicians will ever STOP STEALING is when there is NO MORE MONEY TO STEAL...or else, we the ordinary citizens better start fighting them NOW!!!!

  30. THe presidents and their deputies should be given life and health insurance which they could carry with them at the end of their services. That being the case there should be no need to pay members of their family once they are no more. This girl got an oil bloc; so she should have some money and why is he giving her and relastives some more. U see we need to get rid of Jonathan if this is how he is wasting the nation's resources.

  47. @Anonymous- January 8, 2013 11:53 PM- Thanks for giving us a lesson on severance pay but the question is, why on earth are these people being paid??? Yar'adua is dead, so hardly in a position to sue the government of Nigeria for dismissal and since Turai was never directly employed by the government, she wasn't an employee either. Another question what asking is whether previous presidents or their families have received severance pay as well?

  48. Why are Nigerians complaining about corrupting and cursing their leaders? Nigerians themselves are the biggest obstacle to attempts to deal with corruption. Why was Ibori not impeached by his state and why did his people not take to the streets to demand for his resignation? Why was former governors such as Turaki of Jigawa given second terms if he was so corrupt? Unless Nigerians themselves are willing to get off their fat backsides and fit corruption by protesting against our leaders through mass demonstrations, our leaders will never listen and they will never take us seriously if we continue to accept money to vote for them. In this light, the Yar'adua family deserve that severance pay!
