Police pension boss jailed 2yrs for stealing N2bn freed on N250k fine

An Abuja High Court today sentenced a former head of the Police Pension Board, Mr Yakubu Yusuf, to two years in prison after he pleaded guilty to embezzling N2billion of police pension fund.

But guess what? Mr Yusuf was given an option of N250 thousand to avoid the jail sentence. He was also asked to forfeit property valued at N325 million.

The former assistant director in the federal civil service was one of the six people tried for stealing N32.8 billion of police pension fund. Naija, we hail thee!!!

Could it be that this was a part of a plea deal?
8 people were involved in the scam worth over 2 billion. They already confiscated his property worth 325 million. He was the only one who pleaded guilty out of the group. If he testifies against the other 7 then I am okay with this deal. The other 7 probably have a bulk of the money so maybe the court is more focused on going after them. Maybe he has agreed to help the court prosecute other government thieves also.
EFCC is working they deserve an applause. Let's keep an eye on this case involving the other thieves to see what comes of this.

God are you there? I know you are, I know you are watching & I know that you will judge all man according to his deeds. Father, I pray that that man & the judge that gave such a ridiculous judgement taste the full wrath of your anger, may karma visit their household. A lot of old men & women died wretched & in pains, suffered needlessly due to this & they have been denied judgement. Father look at their tears & do not keep silent

  141. you can buy your judgement with man but you can not buy your judgement from GOD. May God punish you with incurable sickness and your family and also the Judge and his family too. Nigeria a nation that is full of surprises.

  145. Everyone is shouting 2billion,I can bet my last kobo dat he stole more dan dat.probably 7 or 8 bill.I used to work for one of d security agencies in Nigeria before I left d country and wat usually happens is dat d EFCC will enter into an agreement with the thief.if he stole 10billion for example, dey will agree dat wat dey will declare is 3billion,den d man go settle dem like 2billion.As for the properties wat hapens is efcc go sell dem nd remit d money back to the man after removing deir own commission. Trust me the system is sick,I had to leave coz too much politics was going on and if u dare talk dey will boot u out.so for those of u crying that the man stole 2bill,mebbe u will faint if u hear d original amt coz trust me no be 2bill dat man tif.

  146. Linda, on the pages of newspapers he stole 23billion naira and not 2billion, he paid a fine of 750,000 and not 250,000. They seized about 18 of his properties and he refunded 315 million naira. Please get your information right..:) Still love you

  151. It is very sad that our leaders portray us as being incapable of leading ourselves simply because of their corrupt and greedy orientation. How can someone who mismanaged billions be allowed to go free like that? What kind of abnormally mild purnishment is this? If this man had been tried elsewhere he would have bagged a longer jail term. We needed south africa to help us jail okah, we needed London to help us jail Ibori, why are we like this? Must we wait until the mases revolt? If this ugly trend continues a war, though unpalatable, is inevitable. I sincerely pray that this madness in high places will stop.
