Etisalat
is one brand that continues to do things differently. Keen to continue to drive
innovation and the development of broadband services in Nigeria, Etisalat in
August introduced the Etisalat Prize for
Innovation awarded in two categories – a first
prize of $25, 000
for the most innovative product or service, and the second prize of $10,000
for the most innovative idea using broadband.
The
first prize of $25, 000 for the most innovative product or service was
presented to Sinelimit for Mobile Maths Practice, a mobile application that
helps students in preparing for exams (I am sure some of you would find this
one highly useful...J)
and the second prize of $10,000 for the most innovative idea was presented to
Future Software for the iConnect Project, Mobile ICT Units proposed to supply
mobile broadband internet vehicles to schools in various geographical areas.
These
companies came out tops after a rigorous screening process by a high-level
judging panel representing business, telecommunications, entrepreneurship and
network development professionals that reviewed the numerous entries and came
out with a shortlist of four nominees in the two categories.
Etisalat
was so generous to take all four nominees on a five star all expense paid trip
to Cape Town, South Africa where the two winners’ Sinelimit and Future Software
were presented with their prizes at the 2012 AfricaCom Awards ceremony held on
Thursday, November 15th.
Chief
Executive Officer, Etisalat Nigeria, Steven Evans, explained that the
competition was introduced to provide the opportunity for creative people to
present innovative and relevant mobile broadband products/services and ideas.
He expressed delight at the creativity shown by all the entries received this
year and encouraged ingenious organisations and individuals to look forward to
participation in 2013.
Wonderful concept indeed, Etisalat is sure promoting ICT development with prizes like this.
