Nkiru Sylvanus' family paid N8 million to kidnappers for her release

The police in Owerri, the Imo state capital told reporters during a press briefing yesterday that Nkiru Sylvanus' family paid N8 million to the kidnappers before she was released on Thursday night.

The Commissioner of Police, Adisa Bolanta, said the family did this without the knowledge of the police. He said they had warned the family not to negotiate or deal directly with the kidnappers but they defied their orders
"They defied our warnings and continued negotiations with the kidnappers. They went behind us and paid N8 million to them. We have made some arrests in connection with the case and very soon they will all be apprehended." He said

  78. two things:
The family knows Rochas will re-imburse them,
    Another is that:
The Police is not that reliable.
Even if they were, sometimes, the fright of a beloved one being killed can make anyone pay anything.

But this is not really a Police matter is it?
AS LONG AS WE HAVE WASTEFUL LEADERS WHOM CANT CREATE LIFE OPPORTUNITIES FOR A YOUTH-DOMINANT NATION...

It may well continue to happen.

  95. the family should not have publicised the amount they paid! they are helping to fuel the viability of kidnap.... as some idiots here are already indicating how profitable it is, who knows how many new potential kidnappers have been inducted......also they run the risk of the girl being kidnapped again since we all know she has family that love her enough to pay a tidy ransom of 8m!

    ReplyDelete
  96. N f, waste of time and money. I remember last year when my friends Dad was kidnapped in anambra state, the ransom the kidnappers asked for was 10mill but the family had only 5mill. The police said they should bring the money they will trick the kidnappers and arrest them. Unknown to the family the police men removed 2mill from the 5mill given to them. That's how the kidnappers got angry and killed this man. It was another lady that was also kidnapped during that period that told the story. So I don't blame the family at all. Nkiru thank God you are okay.

  97. story of d century.who else will pay for her release if not her bf Rochas;where her family see 8million not to tok of paying it?

  98. This is a true life story cp! My aunty's stepson was a police officer in abia state. He was killed recently and for some reason, it was all shrouded in secrecy. When family members insisted on knowing the true story, here's what was uncovered. Some kidnappers had made a demand for ransom. A place was agreed for drop off and pick up. The police dropped the money and laid ambush. Turns out my aunty's stepson was the one who came to pick up the ransom. He was shot and when they searched him, they found his I.d card. His wife too is a police officer. My point is, who knows how many police officers were in that gang. So u see mr commissioner, it will be stupid of anyone to sit and wait for the police to free their kidnapped loved ones.
