The
82-year old mother of the Finance Minister, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Prof. Kamene Okonjo, has been released five days after she was kidnapped by unknown gunmen from her home in Ogbe-Ofu quarters, Ogwashi -Uku, Aniocha
south local government area of Delta state.
Dr Okonji-Iweala's spokesman confirmed her mother's release in a statement. See it below...
“I can confirm that Professor Mrs. Kamene Okonjo, wife of the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku, Professor Chukuka Okonjo and mother of the Coordinating Minister for the Economy/Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala was released this morning, five days after her abduction. The Okonjo Family is full of thanks to the Almighty for this happy development. The family is also highly appreciative of the support and encouragement of President Goodluck Jonathan; the Country’s security services for their excellent operations; Governors Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta, Peter Obi of Anambra, Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers and other Governors…"

My dear Linda, I thank God for the release of this woman. I also pray that this kidnappers will ask for forgiveness because they always bring curses upon themselves and their families when they put other people through agony. I cannot fathom why people will take delight in hurting other people just because of money. In case any kidnapper or their family members are reading this, please stop kidnapping people. There are better and legitimate ways to make money. You will live a decent, happy, stress free, wonderful, and peaceful life with legitimately earned money.
ReplyDeleteMUMU hope ur one of lutas
Deletethank GOD
ReplyDeleteThank God she is has been freed, but how come they didnt mention the ransome paid?
ReplyDeleteProfessor Mrs blah blah blah....what is that? Just say Professor.... or simply say Mrs.... The problem with Nigeria is our stupid thirst for title and money. Take money and title out of us and we will have a perfect nation.
ReplyDeleteIs dis a coincidence? Let's check. * Day 1: Ngozi's mother was kidnapped
ReplyDeleteDay 2: Kidnapers made contact and requested for $1billion to free her.
Day 3: GEJ requested N161billion for supplimentary budget. (19 days to end the year) $1b = N160billion
Day 4: Senate approves $1billion for GEJ.
Day 5Kidnappers released Ngozi's mother.
BLOGLORD, wonderful analysis indeed. Smart brain I must say. Let's just hope it didn't go down the way you are suspecting because all you have pointed out is unequivocally in line.
DeleteAlas!! Lol who knows who is next? Pls visit ma blog all. Thanks it www.fashionitazbybuiti.blogspot.com

ReplyDeleteBless God. I was so worried for her. An 80yr old grandma. These people are just heartless. And to all the organizations and people mentioned in Ngozi's thank you, I can get from the gist, she was rescued and even her captors arrested. It just means you DO have the means and manpower to curb violence but do you only do it when it affects one of yours? hmmmmm
ReplyDeleteNigerian soldiers did the combing and about 63 where arrested....I said it, they kidnapped the wrong woman....or the wrong mother.
ReplyDeleteMekus

God save Nigeria.
Wait until professional kidnappers 4rm US,Russia,Israel enters d country...cause dis is good business...in 5days millions of Dollars!!!!!!!!! GEJ ur mama sef no safe !!! Dis is self employment #indifferent.
ReplyDeleteThis might come as a surprise to some of you commenters, but the okonjo's are human too. To have your mother abducted is a traumatic experience for anyone. Some of come across as awfully heartless and bitter. Take up the possibly very legtimate problems you have with the way NOI is discharging her duties, but this is not the right forum for that. Stop being such cold hearted.
ReplyDeleteCongratulation. Hope her security will be more strengthen. Love to have a flat belly, lose some weight, maintain shape with fitness. Get these free books and report to learn more @ www.bitly.com/fitnessandweightlossreport

ReplyDeleteWell not that I support kidnapping of any sort, but what has been recently happening in Nigeria shows the current state of things:
ReplyDeleteJonathan's brother dies in aso rock hospital this reflects our health system(I stand to be corrected)
Okonjo's mum kidnapped reflects the poor security of the nation. So what am I saying, government has failed so far in all what they have promised. When they dont listen to the masses, the problems get back at them.
Seriously...she shouldnt av bn freed......just sayn
ReplyDeletePls, can someone contract those thugs to kidnap Sambo's family and demand for N2b???

ReplyDeleteIf You are nobody, you are nobody. But if you are somebody then 1000 Soldiers and police men will be attached to you for safety.
ReplyDeleteLinda, where have you been? uv been MIA for a good while. Hope all is good. The Connecticut mass shooting is so worth reporting! Tnx.
ReplyDeleteThere is money in this but it revolves around the same people.anyway mama nnoo pikin take am easy
ReplyDeleteI was soooooo excited when this woman was kidnapped! Sad she is old though, but the fact she is the ministers mum made me smile! Its high time these kidnappers go to these govt officials. Kidnap their papa, mama, bro, sis, or kids, so they'll know they are not safe from the insecurities we all face, and try to do something! Thank God she is home tho.
ReplyDeletePlease kidnappers, if at all you kidnap any looter, dnt let him go! Rid us of them.
I see a revolution very soon.....TC
Of course it was paid by government.
ReplyDeleteI have to say it nice to hear of the release of Ma Okonjo, that she wasnt hurt; reading through these comment you can see how much distrust a people have in their government, i dont blame them co its where the government has put themselves with the corruption and inability to stick to what they say, take for example America 'We do not negotiate with terrorists' has always been their way everyone knows that because they keep to it... But still no matter the method used to save a life (apart from corruption) is worth it....
ReplyDeleteCongrats Ma!!!

ReplyDeleteCongrats Ma!!!
rubbish deY for no release her, mama wey born THIEF, PEN ROBBER, SUBSIDY TERORIST
ReplyDeletethank God O! D govt should provide jobs for d youths so that ds kidnaping will stop or they should start paying youths on monthly basis after NYSC( at least N50,000). Also check ikonyiriuka.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteIts DEIZY BABYYYY!!! Ah nigerians are naïve sha! Deizani asks 4 fuel subsidy payment, NOI refuses, deizy reports to GEJ, he doesn't do anything about it. NOI's mum is kidnapped and $1billion (161 billion Naira) is demanded. GEJ asks for it d next day, senate approves.
ReplyDeleteI HAIL the almighty DEIZY babyyy!!! She is the most powerful woman in this country.
I feel no pity for the Okonjo family, if they can negotiate with kidnappers cos of one old woman to pay such ransom, then what value will they place on poor pensioners that die everyday while standing on the queue to get paid their entitlement.old pple that ve suffered for this country. I feel the pple in power are more cursed than blessed and selfish plus greedy. That's why bad things should happen to them sometimes so they can feel the pains of the pple.
ReplyDeletelinda pls write bout the connecticut killings very senseless so i can vent plentyyyyyyy.
ReplyDeleteToo many mumus on here who ythink N1b or N200m ransom was paid. Even N50m sef wasnt paid! Abeg gba brake, make persin here word. The fire was too hot, boys love their lives and took whatever they could, and on top of them, some of them will get caught.
ReplyDeleteKidnapping is horrible, and until your own family member is kidnapped, it will never sink in! I had a parent who was kidnapped, and trust me, I wouldnt wish it on my worst enemy. Its more than even paying ransom and having the person released, but even dealing with the after effects, emotional, and even physical health (long term).
Linda! Are you a learner?! Why haven't u had any gist since yesterday?! Abi dey don kidnap you too!?
ReplyDeleteIt is true. Hear how she was rescued.
