16 yr-old cable vandal survives electrocution

A 16-year-old boy, Terseer Iorparegh, was twa y caught stuck in a high tension cable while attempting to vandalize the PHCN cable along Naka road in Makurdi.

Vanguard gathered from the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Gabriel Suswam on Public Utilities, Mr. Gaddafi Asemanya who was at the scene said residents of the area were woken up by shout of help from the young man around 2.am on Thursday only to behold the teenager hanging between the high tension cable after he had suffered shock and first degree burns.

Asemanya said the teenager who had removed the lower cable climbed the PHCN pole to vandalize the upper cable when his leg touched a line which caused a spark and fire which spread over his body while he persistently shouted for help.

According to the governor’s aide, “vandalism of PHCN property has become a serious issue in Benue State, in the last one year. I have apprehended over 30 vandals, while some were prosecuted many of these persons were set free because PHCH has no legal team to ensure the prosecution of these suspects”, he said.

He explained that the residents had wanted to lynch the vandal but for his quick intervention and assistance by men of the fire service, the police and officers and men of the civil defence corps who were on hand to assist recover the vandal.

The Special Assitant further disclosed that the suspect was receiving medical attention at the Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi where he lied critically ill with no one coming to identify him.

  24. My aunt, father, and myself got into a discussion about Nigeria last week. I made it very clear that, in a country like Nigeria, I don't blame thieves for their actions -- including armed robbers.

Why accuse someone of stealing in a country where government officials themselves loot MILLIONS of Naira DAILY?? Why blame someone for their actions when it's hunger and death that's chasing them?? Why point fingers when pastors and the rich do nothing for the poor??

Too many people, seated in their comfortable homes with mouths full of assorted meats and fingers greasy with ororo, are content to point fingers and wag them in the face of thieves.

I don't blame any of you jare.

I just wish all armed robbers would direct their anger and frustrations on those who are destroying the country -- not the innocents.

  25. Victim of circumstance. I really dont know if to blame d young man. We all as human beings have different capacity when it comes to endurance and given d present condition in the country today u ask yourself if there is a future 4 dis great country. Such a petty. If only dis country could speak it would definitely be shedding tears of blood right now due to the demons dat have been in power since it gained its independence. I wont cast any blames on dis young man.

  32. @ Lush, you made a point, but you are also playing the blame game. What exactly have you done and what quota have you contributed to making Nigeria better. You are very quick to say that pastors aren't doing anything. However, bear in mind that just because they do not announce their deeds does not mean that they are not doing anything. So kindly remove the log from your eye, so that you can see clearly to take the speck from others eyes....b

I do not live in Nigeria so there isn't much 'ground-work' I can do. However, I support any and all charity work that comes my way -- either with my money and/or my time. I have financed the university education of young people living in Nigeria. I also send money to non-family members as part of my spending budget.

So as you can see, I don't have a log or spec to remove from my own eye.

    Oya now talk your own....
