Tinubu ejects LGA from headquarters, takes over prime property

Below is how TheWillNigeria is reporting it:
Former Lagos State Governor and leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has taken over a prime property that was once the headquarters of Ikoyi-Obalande Local Government Development Area and relocated the local government secretariat to Obalende, a district in the commercial city of Lagos.
The huge and strategic parcel of land located at the junction of Alfred Rewane Road (Kingsway Road) and Glover Road in highbrow Ikoyi has been demolished to make way for prime construction believed to be blocks of serviced luxury flats.

The acquisition of the property is coming on the heels of the ACN’s defeat in the local government chairmanship election for Ikoyi-Obalende Local Council Development Area by the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate, Mr. Ibrahim Babatunde Obanikoro.

The politician has also cornered the contract to reconstruct Glover Road using a proxy company P.W. Nigeria Limited.

Though THEWILL has not been able to get details of the transaction, several sources say the politician is recklessly acquiring properties in prime locations across the state with the assistance of current Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN).

Tinubu’s acquisitions since he left office cuts across real estate, media and aviation. His company AlphaBeta Consulting collects all Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for Lagos State and some ACN controlled states. It gets to keep a sizeable chunk for itself. AlphaBeta is believed to rake in as much as N7 billion naira monthly as commission for its work.

The politician is also believed to own FirstNation Airlines, The Nation Newspaper, stakes in Oriental Hotel Victoria Island, Renaissance Hotel Ikeja, Eko Hotel Lagos, and the yet to be completed InterContinental Hotel located along Kofo Abayomi Street, near the popular Mega Plaza in Victoria Island. Tinubu also owns TV Continental (TVC) and Radio Continental.

The former Governor who was engulfed in a University certificate scandal during his tenure as Governor, also owns a huge shopping mall complex in Alausa, Ikeja, popularly called Shoprite by its mainland patrons.

THEWILL gathered that the shopping complex was constructed on a large parcel of land believed to have been hijacked from the Lagos State Government.

In a similar gestapo-style move, the governor also bullied Lagosians and acquired the Lekki-Epe highway, reconstructed and tolled the road under a highly controversial agreement.

  18. Where are they carrying all this money to? They will chop, chop , chop and die. Three generations after them will mess up the money and they are all back to square one. Have they ever wondered, where father Abraham of the holy bible kept his riches. The scripture says he was rich, Isaac his son was very rich and Jacob (aka) Israel was exceedingly rich. Where are the riches now. It's only what you do with your riches to help the downtrodden up, that can outlive you. Not your riches. Our men of God have joined the band wagon too. Everybody wants a jet or a Bentley. Shiorrrrrr.

  19. So what will all this talk do now.I don't mean to sound harsh but the truth is all dis una talk will nt do anything.the problem isn't only with d leaders bt also with the people.we Nigerians r too scared to fight back,we're scared of a revolution. We are the Government, but tomorow wen someone decides that enuf is enuf dat is wen u will hear ur neibour will say "ah,leave dem to God jor"Abeg Talk is cheap, wat we need is action. If oda countries cud achieve it why not Nigeria.the last time der was a protest I expected us to use dat opportunity to burn down dose Toll gates but as I said Nigerians r too timid,so we don't mind being robbed blind.we will get dere someday, until den all dis curses nd insults on d govt na pure waste of tym.

  23. After OBJ this Tinubu is the most greedy yoruba man i ever heard about or seen in my life. Where is he taking all this wealth to? Sad.

    ReplyDelete
  24. He's probably richer than Mike Adenuga. I always knew he owned Ikeja City Mall. He tried to bully Tayo Amusan to surrender substantial equity in the Palms Mall, Lekki, but Tayo didn't cooperate fully, that's why Tinubu fenced off The Palms from Lekki Epe expressway.

The man's wealth is the biggest ever acquired by any Nigerian public official minus the former heads of state.

  25. There's nothing as bad as an ugly man with an equally ugly heart. True definition of ugliness. It ony would take death to cripple or destroy the greed in them. Happiness can never be in the acquiisition of properties or wealth. Touching lives counts most.

  31. Nigerian's are so quick to judge!!. If he really owns all of this, then prove it and bring the records out. Im not saying he is an angel but cumon!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. It is amazing how fast and quick us Nigerians are to place judgment on an individual... or should I say how quick we are to place judgment on politicians, businessmen and individuals. Where is the proof of Tinubu acquiring the land? pure speculation. And yet we call ourselves….**********. I have heard so much about Tinubu owning this, owning that, buying this buying that.. heard he’s corrupt and a bad leader but yet we can’t find or pin point with proof one thing he has apparently stolen. Even if we want to claim he bribed the judges why is it that even when the FG went after him, still nothing was found on him.
“The politician is also believed to own FirstNation Airlines (SO FALSE), The Nation Newspaper(SO TRUE), stakes in Oriental Hotel Victoria Island(NOT SURE), Renaissance Hotel Ikeja(SO FALSE), Eko Hotel Lagos(SO FALSE), and the yet to be completed InterContinental Hotel located along Kofo Abayomi Street(SO FALSE), near the popular Mega Plaza in Victoria Island. Tinubu also owns TV Continental (TVC) and Radio Continental(SO TRUE).

It amazing how each landmark, hotel and airline, you mentioned as property under ownership of Tinubu, are all owned by other individuals whom anyone who calls himself a journalist can confirm to you...
Either way linda don’t be used as a scapegoat for another person’s propaganda because regardless of the original purpose of your blog and how much it has am sure exceeded your expectations. Don’t allow this medium to become just another exaggerated gist blog like the many out there.
We have been feed too many lies, and yet we are not tired of them. Even if it is true why can’t we request for proof or evidence before we start abusing, and cursing another person? Please stop slandering other people’s names…
deed and title to properties are all public documents. Once you got this information why didn’t you just do some research before you posted this, other than rely on a source’s word only.

  40. I believe blogs owe it a duty to at least do some basic verification before presenting 'facts' to the public. The property in question was and still is jointly owned by the old Eti-Osa Local Government, comprising presently four local councls. The councils jointly agreed to develop the property and share the revenue.

  43. Intact Linda, let me educate you. Eko hotel is owned by Lagos State Govt and the Chagouri's. The Chagouri's bought majority equity stake during Buba Marwas regime, Bola Tinubu fought tooth and nail to get the shares back for LASG, but the matter ended up in court. LASG lost and that was how the Chagouri's bacame he owners of Eko Hotel. Hence the reason why hey own the Total building next to it. I will inform you more on some of our false accusations in a second.

  44. Intercontinental hotel is owned by Milan International Limited and to be managed by ICG. Milan International Limited is owned by two Indiam brothers, Ramesh and the other one. Linda, I am doing your work for you. LCC is owned by ARM.

  45. Lol at all who said it nt true and d (so true so false guy)get ur facts right before u make any comment, if u don't knw hw then be mute and listen to others who have their facts right. Every single property and stake mentioned above are all true and even much more. Its not news to those in politics in Lagos. Why do u think they call him d Godfather. Don't be surprise if its said to have acquired bar beach and Aluasa. He owns ABC Alha Beta com that generate all revenue for Lagos state and other ACN states. Over 200billion every month is what is involve but how much is been declare? Revolution is d only Answer but that is never going to happen.

  47. People make claims publicly based on hear say, which sometimes can be true, however, on this matter on the council headquaters on Glover Road, Ikoyi, the claim is totally false, a fabrication. The property in question has been demolished by the four local authorities that own the facility to give way to a 10 storey building which is being financed by a bank. The councils will then split the proceeds from the rents generated therein.how does that then translate to Tinubu owning the the property...

  48. You guys are just talking nonsense. fine he owns most of the things you mentioned but some are not his.
One thing i want you to know is these companies put food on some people's table. dat is wat sustains some people. what if he has all d money nd he transferred it to foreign accounts like Ibor, wat will u do?
you better watch how you judge people and not put ursef in trouble.

  49. What is wrong in him having such business investments? "Nothing" will be my answer if u ask me. The actual question is if he stole or embezzle public funds. I think we should be very careful how we make emotional generalisation of politicians as thieves in Nigeria. Tinubu has been tried so many times by the EFCC, even under Ribadu - and as someone who has a face-off with the then dreaded ruling OBJ - We all know what the consequences would have been if he has been found guilty.

I think we need to understand that Tinubu has been wealthy before becoming a politician - Tinubu went to the United States in 1975, where he studied first at Richard J. Daley College in Chicago, Illinois and then at Chicago State University. He graduated in 1979 with a Bachelors of Science degree in Accounting. He worked for American companies Arthur Andersen, Deloitte, Haskins, & Sells, and GTE Services Corporation (All these Companies are highly respected companies in the world). After returning to Nigeria in 1983, Tunubu obtained work with Mobil Oil Nigeria, becoming an executive of the company. And people should not forget how wealthy the Tinubu families are, even before Bola Ahmed Tinubu was born.

So, why are people complaining about his investments and business? I respect this man called Tinubu. Although he has his shortcomings (like me and you), he is a great achiever.
