Mikel Obi charged with misconduct in alleged racial slur case

British Football Association has charged Mikel Obi with misconduct during Chelsea's October 28 match against Manchester United. The statement the FA released below...
Chelsea’s John Obi Mikel has been charged by The FA for an alleged breach of FA Rule E3 in relation to his side’s game against Manchester United on 28 October 2012.
It is alleged that in or around the Match Officials’ changing room at the end of the fixture, Mikel used threatening and/or abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour.
The player has until Friday 30 November 2012 to respond to the charge.
Mikel had claimed that referee Mark Clattenburg cast a racial slur at him during the match, but the referee has been cleared by the police.

  9. Why do people always try to use the race card? I don't understand it. Chelsea and mikel in particular shud have just accepted the results and moved on. No! Mikel obi had to go and display some stunts and see what he got in return. Hope his penalty will be light for his sake cos he's certainly goin to get punished.

  11. Mark clattenburg has been cleared of this stupid charge, and Mikel has been charged with abusive behavior, he should also be charged with hounding the referee throughout the match trying to get his own way

  14. Heh. Its a boomerang! The hunter has become the hunted. I've always known those allegations on Clattenburg by Mikel & co were spurious. No offense here, but Chelsea is a club that lacks class. (The fans are even more classless :D). Playing the racist card against the Referee after 'controversially' losing a match...Really? Is that the best/worst they could do? This is just the beginning. The FA will probably slam Mikel with a 4-match ban, then fine the club for 'Bearing false witness'. Mark Clattenburg has been vindicated

  15. Chelsea is passing through a lot right now from Terry- A. Coal - mikel- Torres'es not being able to score and Luiz'es not being able to defend - Di Matteo beig disgraced - the bloody Russian mafia fooling himself down to the board as a whole. This is the worst period in chelsea's history but with time it will all settle down and the best will come. Mikel just do not argue with them go and accept whatever punishment the MAN U led FA will give to you.

  16. What did you expect from the British? It is their way always shy away from the truth especially when it concerns a British person.Referee cleared from police and Mikel charged very useless people.

  17. Chelsea should have done a thorough in-house investigation before going to the FA.The closest person 2d referee when he was claimed to have made the racist remark was Mikel Obi.How come it was Ramires who now claimed he heard the referee made a racist remark?

  21. You could see, Mikel and Chelsea Fc just threw this accusation out there in the heat of their defeat, it was very unlikely the referee would do that, mikel himself admitted to not hearing the abuse himself, its a shame he got mixed up in all these racial stuff, play ur football and leave the white man with their problems

  23. human beings and biased judgement, its a 50-50 case bt how can u accuse som1 of sumfin u neva even heard urself?so wats d proof?d ref maintained his stand dat he didnt abuse him.Mikel admitted he didnt hear it himself so on wat basis are u pple already pronouncing d ref guilty?its possible he allowd d disappointment and anger frm d match get d beta part of him.

  24. no evidence, his team mates backd down frm d claim and yet many pple are here taking Mikel's side wen d guy cant even vouch for d claim.well,evry1 is allowd 2 hv an opinion

  25. Referee can't b stupid to make any racial abuse, cos their is always a mic in their mouth, which they use for communication wt d other officials,if he does,it will b immediately detected by the officials.Mikel is disgracing himself.

  27. Linda, check your facts... Mikel never claimed that the referee used a racial slur on him... It was his teammate Ramires who claimed that he head the ref call Mikel a monkey. Mikel then headed to the ref's room like a headless chicken to do what I don't know... That is why he's being charged..

  33. U are a nigerian and u say anyone that supports mikel is a fool, i wonder who d fool is. The fact is that the fa is a ridiculous organisation, there was no evidence against suarez except what evra said and he was punished, now tell me is that enough evidence. In d case of john terry the was overwhelming video evidence and the court cleared him, them the fa later punished. Now chelsea laid charges and the referee has been cleared on the basis of lack of evidence when suarez was punished without hard evidence except for what evra said. It might interest you to know that the mic on the referee' mouth isnt recorded, so he might av said something that only the players heard. Also when a big organisation like chelsea law charges be rest assured that there is an element of truth and also chelsea dint lay charges immediately so they must av consulted before they did it. No matter what the outcome is mikel is a nigerian who has served in our national teams and we have to support him, take a leaf from uruguay even the president supported suarez.
