It also advised residents with private vehicles to
change to the state’s number plates to reflect the fact that they are
living in Lagos.
The Director, Vehicle Inspection Office, Mr, Gbolahan
Toriola, said the measure was meant to achieve “sanity, standard,
safety and security” as stipulated by the road traffic law.
Toriola spoke at the vehicle inspection safety
campaign organised by the Ministry of Transportation in conjunction with
the Political and Legislative Bureau for commercial drivers in Ikeja.
He said, “There is nothing wrong in bringing
commercial buses from other states. But if you must use it in Lagos, you
have to change the colour and re-register it with us so that we have
your information in our database.
“This is a standard procedure. As a matter of fact,
it you have lived in a state for about three months, you are no longer a
visitor and therefore you must change your number plate to reflect the
state. It is done in America and other developed nations.
“Of course, this provision did not affect inter-state
vehicles carrying passenger from other state. But we don’t expect them
to pick or drop passengers at every bus stop. There are dedicated bus
stops and parks for inter-state vehicles. If they violate this and we
get them, they will face our law.
“You must put waste basket in your buses; there must
be first aid box; you must carry extra tyres. These are what our law
stipulates.”
The VIO boss who highlighted the provisions of the
traffic law, advised them to cooperate with the government to ensure
security in the state.
A director in the ministry, Mr. Bola Matanmi, also
advised the drivers not to turn themselves to traffic officials, but
instead apply to the ministry so that they would be given a Special
Marshall status.
He added that the union would be given the privilege to choose the colour of the uniform for drivers and conductors.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Political and
Legislative Affairs, Mr. Muslim Folami, said the traffic law, which has
43 sections and four schedules was for the interest of Lagosians. He
urged the drivers to submit to the law for sanity and safety.

i wonder what fashola's obsession with road and traffic is. does he think those are the only problems wrong with Lagos state?
ReplyDeletemtscheeew! LASTMA official oshi
I can see most people didn't read the post. The emphasis is on commercial vehicles in lagos while inter-state buses will be permitted as long as they are simply dropping and picking people at bus stops. Private cars have a 3month period of relocating to lagos before being asked to change so that one saying you drive here and there in the US do you see its possible now? I think traffic is a big problem n lagos and it makes transport expensive and productivity low. Everywhere becomes far from anywhere. Fashola is foig the right thing and he will deal with any officer found exploiting the law. He's not contesting again but u will appreciate him when he's gone. Whicch other state is like Lagos?
DeleteMthcewwww
ReplyDeleteds Fashola dey Vex me,,,Day IN,,,day out
well,,he has nthin to loose,,,sinc 2015 ,,he is nt Contesting
**Nonsenc ACN**
They aint serious ... Bunch of jokers
ReplyDeleteCome on!! Now they are taking the traffic thingy to far. wot rubbish is this guy saying? So if it's done in America (*smh), it's a standard or what? And if i relocate from a state in nigeria, the govt will inflict more pain on me for that reason???? Are they out of ideas or what? pass, abeg!
ReplyDeleteScroll up and read the post b4 u give such dumb comment. Don't be lazy.
DeleteSo Lagos is America and developed nation?
ReplyDeletelagos is turning to something else inside nigeria ,here in vienna austria people from hungary italy slovak slovenia germany they still use thier countries number here in austria,so what is it about this lagos sef a country inside a country?one dey oil producing states will demand that for you to work in oil company u must come from niger delta, the same lagos that said if u commit trafic offence in lagos u will go to one year in prisonment,u take somebodys dad or mum and put in prison for one year cus he or she drive against the trafic the worst u can do to the offender is to fine he or she just like they do in addvance country
ReplyDeleteI give lagos govt a pass mark for this one.
ReplyDeleteLagos' over-sabi is getting too much sha...
ReplyDeleteAt first I thought the Governor Of Lagos & its Executives were educated, now I know they are educated insane politicians who know nothing about formulating laws...Of all the reasons for creating these laws, they didn't talk about the Unity of Nigeria. So he expects someone who just relocated to Lagos because of his job/white collar job,to change his Plate number? If other State Governors pass same law in their respective states, will there be 'UNITY' in Nigeria...Lagosian & Nigerians, let us not be foolish to accept these laws anymore. It's going to affect us one way or anoda.
ReplyDeleteUse d time u use to vent ur ignorant anger typing to read d post...mumu
DeleteAn intelligent person always read before posting. Why should u conclude just from d headlines. Gosh! Smh for u
GOD BLESS MY DARLING FASH. THIS MAN IS A 'THINKER', AND I AM SURE HAS SIMILAR 'THINKERS' AROUND HIM
ReplyDeleteI got to say without reading the whole post I was like here we go again, more pointless rules. But by the time i finished i got to say its a good idea providing theres not a sneaky way of one person in charge collecting lots of money (which likely it will happen) BUT at the end of the day if Lagos is trying to build a better infrastructure and security then this is not a bad start. Yes some people will loose out but in the long run as long as it works its another step for Lagos to be a better and safe state even if private residents will do the same.
ReplyDeleteWhat d fuck is wrong with this LAGOS state. Acting like they're all that. Smmmmhhhhhhh
ReplyDeleteWe Lagosian are all dat,if u don't like us,buzz off (˘̯˘ ) ( ˘˘̯)
DeleteJealousy!!
DeleteNa wa for dem dis govt ooo
ReplyDeleteFashola should stop this rubbish!
ReplyDeleteFor commercial purposes i get it but for private vehicles, they must be crazy.
ReplyDeleteI share d exact same sentiment wit U my brother/sister... Ahn ahn, this is getting too far, dey should calm down before dey make d law that U must collect visa b4 U enta lagos... Abeg Fashola shld slow down with all these traffic laws o, e don try reach. He shld move 2 other problems, or is traffic d only wahala Lagos is facing???
DeleteWhat about those who come into lagos for temporary deal, what then happen to the plate number.
ReplyDeleteWhy does Fashola want to divide Nigeria this way?
ReplyDeleteAnother means to extort money from lagosians for 2015 election
ReplyDeleteLOL! Fashola is on a rampage. I'm sure losing that lawsuit the okada drivers really pissed him off. Abeg next on the agenda should be a way to deal with crime. I know that's a step up but I'd really appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteAt least in America they have good roads..
ReplyDeleteSilly, I commute between 2 states here in the US. I know 1 is temp even though I've been in that state for a yr. I use license plate of the other state, my drivers license is from a 3rd state, that I lived in before both states!
ReplyDeleteNaija too dey do! This is a silly move!
Mumu commuter...go n read d post joor
Delete#CommercialVehicles
Na wa 4 dis govt oooooo! Dis laws are getting 2much oo....for d fact dat d governor is a ''SAN' cant d lagosians ve a breathen space for decree vs laws evry day!!!
ReplyDelete*breathing not "breathren". The latter means "brothers"
DeleteJust another pointless exercise geared towards extorting more money from the people.
ReplyDeleteFashola and his advisers should think of better and productive ways of generating revenue !!!!
Fashola ȋ̝̊̅§ goin crazy yes oh he's goin crazy...if care ȋ̝̊̅§ not takin in lagos deres goin 2 be much Arm robbers
ReplyDeleteDis is complete sanity....*mmmtttcchheww
ReplyDeleteACN won't win in dis Lagos again. Copy that Mr. Fasoro
ReplyDeletethis is for revenue generation... if u dont undastand it, then u are the uneducated one... for naija to move forward, we need an organized society, and govts need to raise funds to be able to provide amenities for their indigenes...
ReplyDeleteonce again, lagos state is leading the way... unfortunately oda govs are blind, deaf and dumb...
Very soon Fashola will follow the steps of his River State counterpart by going from house to house to ensure TOTAL compliance with Lagos State plate number order. OLE!!! Bunch of dummies ever devising ways of extorting monies from innocent citizens. I am sure after this, it would be, "you must change the color of your plate numbers every 2 years". Arrant nonsense!!!!
ReplyDeleteDevils in the details and who will enforce it and how....policy and process fundamental, the Nigerian issue once again, ideas with no proper planning
ReplyDeleteIt's the right thing to do. This is being done for several reasons. Revenues, security and logistics. If you live in Lagos and your car is registered in Abuja is wrong because Lagos state is not utilizing the registration fees you paid in Abuja. When the need to track your license and registration arises, it takes time to connect Abuja back and forth. Lagos state needs to re word the language so that people can understand. If they stopped you today and your license stated your address as Lagos and registration is Abuja address you should be given a warning but if you are stopped in January of 2013 and your registration has not been changed to Lagos address then be ready to pay the fine. @eeeao

ReplyDeleteNonsense! The day Fashola leaves Lagos State, people will rejoyce. LMAO.
ReplyDelete12year olds playing with their toy (law) :)
ReplyDeleteThis is total rubbish and I know for sure that this man is sick!how can he include private cars? Do you know they are cars even in South Africa that came from zambia with Zambia plate numbers that came for contract in South Africa and the contract will last for one year? This is absulately madness Fashola you are mad!
ReplyDeleteI keep saying it, very soon we would be needing visas to visit lagos! Shiorrr!
ReplyDeletethank you first anon ..im no longer liking this fashola he is running out of ideas maybe cos is tenure is rounding up..mtchewwww...
ReplyDeletei hope they won't lose Lagos to PDP with all this pointless laws, this is just a means to extract money
ReplyDeletedis people are very stupid lagos is becoming really tough for people to live in what kind of rubish rules is all that?thank God i dnt stay in lagos and neve plan to just that i hv people there but dis gov is sick.
ReplyDeleteFashola oh I supported u wen u demolished munshin that was for the development Of lagos but c'mon safety n sanity? Get real, ok so as I don get enugu plate number n I get biz for lag wey fit keep me there for 4months, make I come buy new plate number? As if I sold my car to myself. Sha una dey on top long tin. For the commercial buses it made sense but for private cars you must be joking. So conductor n bus driver go get uniform join? Hmmm ok. All you had to do was make ppl who r resident in lagos register their cars with lag ware va That way, you still hv their datas. Sha I don't see this law being obeyed sha messed up.
ReplyDeleteZinnia:
DeleteI particularly love this excerpt from your comment:
"All you had to do was make ppl who r resident in lagos register their cars with lag ware va That way, you still hv their datas."
I guess his think tank didn't put this in mind.
Fashola has obviously ran out of ideas, his advisers have become gluttons, his legislatora have become out of touch. This is still Lagos state of Nigeria and not Lagos state of Africa. Fashola has been fighting for true federalism, is this also what true federalism is all about? i blame Tinubu that brought you in the second time and Lagosians that voted you in. Well other states will also make tha same law. and we shall see where you go with this. The other ime you were asking dat Lagos be given special recognition for robbing the nation and now you are trying to get that by all means. Lets see where you get with this.
ReplyDeletei live if Germany and can travel the whole Europe with ma German plate number if wish to do so. #@@#^%#$@#%$%^ to all Govt. official that do not know what problem we ve got in 9ja.
ReplyDeleteEven with all the traffic rules the roads are still a mess and we have more maniacs on the rad than ever before. He is bored fashola is such a disappointment.
ReplyDeleteThnk God dey said "america and oda developed nations",is nigeria let alone lagos developed?fashola is fraustratin errone,he is sourcing for revenue wiv every means he can place his hands on bfor 2015,cnt u all see he is a jerk!rubbish!!!
ReplyDeleteFinally! I've been waiting for this for a while, ie d part that says every bus must have a waste basket. The way people throw dirt on d road from buses is sooo crazy. Thank u Fashola.
ReplyDeletei understand the commercial vehicle part but whats up with private cars changing their plate numbers? fashola is doing a good job but his wahala is getting too much, over do dey worry am
ReplyDeleteWow, this is a welcome development, well a ot of Nigerians react to change differently but don't worry guys we all would love it. Sides look at the bright side we can tackle crime even better because we know those who come from outside and those who commit inside. Big ups to BRF government
ReplyDeleteIdiot like you you for kukuma say make we change plate numbers from ikorodu to island no 4get say people de die 4 office if u no take time u go die inside that office fake man
ReplyDeletei thinkmust of u didnt read this post fully u just read the headings and peoples comment den made urs, he has got good point here, its for safety reasons so that robbery can reduce, and its a way of tracking information easily!! this is great Fashola, pls pple lets think less of the stress buh lets see hw dis is improving the country, stop comparing with other countries!
ReplyDeleteTe end and truth of everything is that THE MAN FASHOLA SMOKES WEED!
ReplyDeletelol..... this is funny. Fashola! Fashola!! Fashola!!! this ur over sabi laws re gettin frustratin. better rethink and consider enviromental factors before implimenting ang law, u cant compare American and Lagos.
ReplyDeleteFashola is an idiot!!! Linda make sure you publicize this post. See all the roads in Lagos have got to their worst condition yet fashola is working, they forget that good roads should be the number one in Lagos traffic laws and if the roads are not properly worked and managed that him fashola and his cabinet should also be sent to the years imprisonment. For all the bad roads in Lagos, Okota, Apapa Oshodi. Do you know how man lives that has been lost in Lagos due to bad road...I still have a lot to write. What about Nigerians using their plate numbers in order countries we have not been asked to change them, how on eart could plate number be amongst Nigerian problems the governments is only effective on the things that will remove money from the masses pocket forcefully and that is when you will see the laws working, how can you ask a man that was transferred from Abuja to come and work and live in Lagos that he must change his plate number before he can be able to live and work in Lagos. This is absolutely unacceptable they are all rogues.
ReplyDeleteIt's obvious every 1 who has commented on dis post is educated. But I find it disheartening dat vry few pple read to d point of understanding n drawing logical conclusion.I'm n full support d law.
ReplyDeleteD̶̲̥̅̊a̶̲̥̅τ̲̅ as to do with the commercials but as 4 the private pls BRF rethink. Big up Fasola
ReplyDeletethis is total madness.Having sex issues in your marriage ? visit this link now and save your marriage, about to wed couples can also learn.http://thewordcompass.blogspot.com/2012/10/marriage-sex-rules-for-christians.html
ReplyDeletena waaoooo dis fashiiiii san law don dey too mush self, na only GOD fil help us g dis lagos whala
ReplyDeleteplease this doesn't make sense, if this law is just for public transporters then yes , what will they do to people visiting Lagos for few days or in Lagos for some few months for business purpose or otherwise... this is going to cause problems.
ReplyDeleteThis is a stupid law. Many of the cars we import into this country land in Lagos and most of them have to register in Lagos before driving down to the East. If the Governors in the South East and South South enact similar laws, then there would be so much confusion and people will just be paying twice for same expenditure.
ReplyDeleteLet us not divide this country by enacting laws like this as it could be very detrimental if all states beging to enact law to favours its citizens.
Screw him...Ole
ReplyDeleteAll of u shld act like matured adult. All these things put in place is to save pple frm entering "ONE CHANCE".
ReplyDeleteTo prevent theft, some Nigerians inscribed numbers on the body parts of their vehicles including the engine. The LASG should think seriously about the implication of vehicles with different number plates from what is inscribed on the body of the vehicle. The LASG should shelve this idea because law enforcement agents will harass and extort money from vehicle owners
ReplyDeleteThats the height ,lagosians should caution their Gov before they are forced to end their surname with lagos if they have stayed up to three months in lagos .eg ikeji-lagos,adebayo-lagos,hassan-lagos,akpabio-lagos
ReplyDeleteFor the record, i believe the Lagos State Government has other projects to complete like bad roads, drainage system....the list goes on and on.
ReplyDeleteSee nigerians, so used to living like a bunch of uncivilized animals. They detest progress because it pushed them from the petty comfort of their filth.
ReplyDeleteNobody is going to arrest you for driving in Lagos with a plate number from another state.
For those of us who have a little more than cheap Chinese plastic for brains, we can't but appreciate the job Fashola is doing in lagos. So far, the only policies of his i find fault with are the "no okada on express" (cause there's no alternative) and the "limit prepaid rent to 6 months" policies.
Lagos needs more strict traffic laws. I'm tired of having to do James Bond style maneuvers to get to work in the morning. With commuters running 6 lanes on a road built for 4. Plus why can't everyone just pick a lane and stick to it? In countries with laws, all these would be dangerous driving, a ticket able offense.
There is a "sense"in nonsense. We people would not reason well ere conclusion/comment.
ReplyDelete1 am in dilemma befor reading this page, but fortunately 1 got answer to my worry.
1 want to change my fairly used vehicle with Abuja reg.no to Lagos veh reg no.(new plate no. because 1 leave in lagos.
