As part of the activities scheduled ahead of the Miami Fashion Week which features African designers on its runway for the first time ever in March
2013, W-Art and Design invites all fashion industry practitioners, designers, marketers and
retailers to a once in a lifetime opportunity to learn best practices in global
fashion retail business.
The seminar will also focus
on the legal aspect of the fashion industry. Mercedes Gonzales, CEO of the New
York based Global Purchasing Group, a fashion buying office representing over
200 stores in North and South America will be in Nigeria to facilitate fashion
retail business segment. Mercedes R. Gonzalez has been a buyer in the garment industry since 1988.
With over 20 years already clocked
in the global world of fashion, she brings a wealth of experience and practical
insight on how to broaden your fashion business and discover new markets. Attendees
also have the opportunity to interact with her on a one-on-one basis for
specific consultation of their designs for a fee.The Intellectual Property/Legal Aspects of the fashion
industry will be facilitated by Uche Ofodile (Professor, University of Arkansas
School of Law, USA).
Professor Ofodile has an extensive and impressive record of
publications, professional Service, and teaching and has received numerous awards and
fellowships for her work.
W-Art and Design is a Lagos, Nigeria based Fashion and Art
Consulting company which aims to contribute to the development of the Nigerian Creative
industry with emphasis on the Fashion Sector through Training, Research,
Workshops, Seminars, and Collaborations with Stakeholders for job creation and
further economic growth and Social Development. This seminar is expected to
prepare African designers, emerging and established, for the global market.
