A few weeks back, some people (one of them a LIB reader who sent in the story and photos) saw this beautiful baby stone dead dumped at the canal before UNILAG maingate, at Abule Oja. They alerted the social workers at the Family Welfare Centre at Birrel Sabo, who came immediately and removed the baby from the canal. The LIB reader took some photos and sent to me...he said seeing that dead baby in that canal was the worst thing he had ever seen...and was in shock for days.
It's the saddest thing to see really. A child! Whoever did this, how dare you? Even if the child died at home or something, why not a proper burial? Incredibly sad. If you have stomach to, then see the beautiful baby after the cut...

Whilst there is no excuse as you said, but we were and still not privy to all the information and therefore, can only pray for the lost soul and hopefully, the death was not prolonged and painful.

ReplyDeleteSometimes ago, I heard my mother with my father and his sister discussing, I heard her said she had aborted more than 3 times in her life and my aunt also said she had aborted close to 5 times. I was shocked wen I heard ds(I still can't believe it), I don't think my oda siblings knw ds information. These are d pple dt society hold in high esteem and they all have titles in the church.
Looking at ds pix, on a normal day I would have rained abuses and curses on d person dt did ds but I can't, I don't even knw wat to say. I know some people will start blaming and cursing but let's take a chill pill, do we knw wat our love ones are doing right now, do we knw d secrets dey are hiding from us?d person dt did ds might even be somebody we know.
Definitely, this is inhuman and a criminal acts but only God knws why ds was done.
My conclusion, let those that call themselves friends be the TRUE friends they are. D person dt did ds must have gone through a lot, who knws, a friend might pushed her to ds and also with a good friend she would not have done ds. People are really going through a lot even a 6yr old kid has secrets nowadays. Let be our brothers/sisters keepers. Problems shared is problem solved.

Whoever can do this to a baby is stone-cold. I once heard that a governor from the South-South (not ganna mention names) used a new born baby for ritual (pounded the baby in a mortar) in his quest for political power. This "higher devils" should refer to the Holy Bible "it is better t have a milestone fastened to your neck an be plunged into a river, than hurt a child". God save Nigeria.

Most times when such happens in hospitals instead of releasing d dead baby to sme people who come around d hospitals to collect such thngs fr whteva purpose, sme people prefer to throw d dead baby into d canal. It happend to my sister inlaw who had a stil birth
ReplyDeleteThe baby couldn't have died at birth and they will still put diapers on him. Having a still birth is no excuse to dispose the babies body anyhow. I had a miscarriage at four months so my baby was somewhat formed but I still managed to put her tiny body in a little box, and buried her bcos the hospital said it was up to me to dispose and not them. I loved that baby in as much as she left me on time. I refuse to judge because I myself had had an abortion (I wish I didn't have) because I couldn't afford to displace a woman from her home because her husband in the five years I knew him never mentioned anything about being married. I couldn't keep the baby at the time because I cut off all ties with the man and thus couldn't sustain a child. But if I had kept it I would never have done this to my child. I wish I had the funds on my own to raise the baby as at then but i'm glad I didn't have to subject my child to misery. The one I lost at 4 months was planned and I had a miscarriage due to a slip I had while working back home that induced untimely labour. I am not trying to justify an abortion but if I were to chose between an abortion and disposin a baby I went through labour pains to bring into this world, I would choose to have an abortion and have God alone to contend with. Now this person if it was intentional has got people cursing at whoever did this.

Yes we should all be concious of the environment we live in but my dear no matter how smart or alert we think we are except the grace of God is with you, that I am alert wisdom ain't gonna work it will only make you live in constant fear and by the time you realise what u did to urself, your whole life has passed you by. Every saturday people get married despite what we here about men killing their wives and all that. Everyday people travel despite accidents that happen on the road. So as far as i'm concerned this ur theory of trust no one doesn't make sense. Rather trust with caution that's what you should say. No one will live forever so ur prayer should be God's guidance and grace in everything you do. No man is an island so if you want to be counted among the living you must interact with ppl. I don't know what made you think no one can be trusted but I think you should find out what it is and deal with it because with this mentality,assumption or suspicion not proof is all you need to mess up a good relationship. Its ppl that think the way you think that believes their husbands are cheating when they may never hv conceived it in their minds to do so. Please I want you to change that attitude even though a lot is happening around us, it is not healthy to hv this ur mentality.

ReplyDeleteMy inlaws had a help who was pregnant, she managed to hide it eventually she gave birth in the toilet and was attempting to flush the baby when my brother-in-law heard a cry and decided to find out what it was. The baby is now 10yrs old as they kept the child because it belonged to their mother's brother. It could be frustration or cluelessness plus parents being hard on their children for taking in. I have vowed that if any of my daughters should conceive out of wedlock,I will take care of that my child because if I choose to chase her out, what are her chances of survival and I would hv exposed my grandchild and my daughter to the vices of this wicked world. I pray they font conceive out of wedlock sha.
ReplyDeleteA set of twins wia picked tooo sumtimes last month, I fink thr mum dumped them coz ther re HIV positive...inoccent babies. Sm ppl re just naturally wicked, lk do u knw wot it takes to give birth,y din she get rid of d preg whn d baby has not formed, y did she ve to wait till d baby was born? All dis re signs of witchcraft.. May God help us

ReplyDeleteThis is just plain cruel, crying my eyes out. Why wld someone do this after carrying d baby for 9 months, the joy frm all d stress is seeing the baby. I am a new mother n is so protective of my baby dat I wld rather do vigils once I see a mosquito so it doesn't bite my baby.

This was a commonly repeated thing (in this same canal) in the 80's when I was growing up couple of houses from Unilag gate. Saw stuff like this on my way to Finbarr's early in the morning from time to time with talks of same around Abule-Oja for days.

If you meet strangers for sexual liaisons - you will get pregnant because this stranger will be reckless.
If you use FB,BBM to solicit & negotiate sexual encounter with idiots in a hotel you will get pregnant or killed.
If you are a runs gal, you will get pregnant.
If you keep strings of sugar daddy you will get pregnant.
If you are any of the type of gal described, the end product of your actions will be the same as the fate of this precious child.
Men take note and be responsible. You are responsible for this atrocity too.

Nigerians!! Very quick to judge others, yes it is a sad situation but maybe the person who commited this atrocity has a mental illness and needed help so badly but couldn't find any way out. Please let's pray for the person to be healed and find peace so that this doesn't repeat itself and the baby is Resting in the bossom of the lord. May God help us o! this is very sad.

ReplyDeleteI don't think the person who left the baby intended for it to die. Perhaps they were hoping someone would find the child and care for it. Unfortunately, no one heard the child's cries.
Parenting is a very difficult stage of life, especially if you have little to no money. (Look at the oversized diaper; the clothes the child is wearing; the cloth covering the body.) I am not saying being poor justifies UNINTENTIONALLY killing your child, but you make the best decision possible when faced with difficult choices.
The only positive part of this story is that all babies get a free pass into Heaven. For that I'm glad because it's one less child to suffer from child abuse, poverty, and homelessness.

ReplyDeleteThis is not a normal situation. This baby is definitely not a new born baby. i don't want to think that the mother took care of the baby to this point and then dumped her here. only God knows what truly happened and only Him can judge. May the innocent soul of the baby RIP.

As disheartening as this is,we should not make too much judgement. People are desperate and we are living in a very troubling and difficult times. Who knows who the parents are what their story is. Did they kill and dump their own child. Did the baby die and they just could not afford money for the burial. Did the father disown his own seed. Was the mother a young girl who did not know what to do with unwanted baby. There's a host of questions and no answer, I hope that it was the second option and not that a mother just dumped her own child who may be alive...very tragic and very sad.

ReplyDeletethe baby was clothed...which made me think the mother/father or whoever placed the child there was not intentionally trying to kill the baby and was in hope that someone will find him or her. ( i am jus assuming) we don't know if it was the mother or the father or anyone else so everyone shud just quit cursing!
