Air Nigeria passengers stranded for hours in London, asked to buy Aviation Fuel

Over 190 Air Nigeria passengers arrived Gatwick Airport 8:30 yesterday morning to fly back home ...and for 8 hours, they were stranded at the airport. The travelers were informed of lack of 'fuel' to fly the aircraft to Lagos, and were told to contribute extra £40 each for purchase of 'Aviation Fuel!

Eventually, the plane left Gatwick airport at 4:30 pm and arrived Nigeria at about 12:30 early this morning.

After spending extra hours before leaving Gatwick for Lagos, and arrived way past midnight, passengers were shocked to be informed to come back for their luggage!

A lot of them are so mad about what they went through yesterday and are planning to sue the airline company and it's chairman, Jimoh Ibrahim. Got this info first hand from passengers on-board the aircraft last night.

From tomorrow Monday September 10th, Air Nigeria will no longer fly...for at least a year.

  2. Good for them not to fly because they are not serious with business.I have not used the airline before but there is nothing like Emirates. How can they say lack of fuel made them not to fly, what an airline.Naija, everything is possible in that country.

  11. What an insult, pay extra £40 for fuel! They should sue the living daylight out of the useless Airline. Rubbish!

  12. Gosh the aviation sector is in such a big mess, and the minister is so useless which doesn't help.... Na wah, it best to avoid anything nigerian when it comes to flying.

  13. But this is so sad! In the firstplace I can't figure out what could have made FGN approved 'Air Operation' License to someone like Jimoh Ibrahim! His tendecies are so bad and they know it, but did it for sake of their own benefits and corruption. As far as am concern, Jimoh doesn't deserve to live among people cos he's an animal. U just need to experience him as a person or work under him to understand what am saying. He's a bully, arrogant, so vulgar and an exploiter who is taking advantage of our bad leadership and vulnerable citizenry who easily give up to fate. I hope the passengers won't give up on this though, till he pays back and learn some lessons.

  17. Why fly Air Nigeria internationally in the first place, like they don't have enough problems locally already.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Hahahahahaha *laughing in french* They should be grateful to God they landed safely,I guess they could only afford to fly the passengers cause passengers + luggage consumes fuel.

  19. Crazy airline , that's too much mhan . ppl really had to go through all that ? Smh

  20. Na wa o! Only in 9ja will passengers contribute money for aviation fuel..... Air Nigeria should have had a better back up plan before grounding the airline.

Long live federal republic of Nigeria!

  21. How people fly Air Nigeria remains a shock to me. Please, they are not air worthy. I have been on one of their planes before and I was praying the whole time. Even when they were Virgin Nigeria, they had K leg. Please abeg, our lives are not cheap. 6 hours over the Atlantic is not a joke.

  27. Am I surprised?, the professionalism in this country is woeful. Honestly I think any air transport that springs up from nigeria is nothing to right home about.I got back from London on tuesday morning on Arik and I was told to come get my bag the next day. Who does that?. I honestly think people should abandon all these nigeria air transprts and use the foreign ones. And the reason most people fly them is because of the cheap fares.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I was in this flight...got to the aiport exacctly 6:40am...to check in did not even take me 1hour,the flight was meant to take off 10:50am but they delayed it till 12 no offence about that,ds pple kept telling us to give them some minutes...to cut the long story.According to them they needed 10,000pounds(£10,000) short three(3) oil companies turned AIR NIGERIA down to fuel the plane...before it was suggested that we passengers to all contribute 40pounds each(even wit ur baby still 40pounds)..the 4th company agreed..I tink the condition the company gave them was to leave some luggage so air nigeria would come back to clear their debt....the plane was not full at all so I dnt c any reason y dey won't bring our bags to NIGERIA...people that don't have money to fuel plane to bring passengers,thEy would nw fuel the plane 4 luggages..God help us in this country

  31. Wow wow wow! One thing you should never be asked to do is pay for the fuel for the plane you are about to take, especially since you already paid in advance, total fail. I hope this is a huge lesson and if they operate again in the future avoiding something like this should be vital.

Just another story adding to Nigerias already bad business reputation

    ReplyDelete
  45. Dis Air Nigeria stuff has really degenerated 2 sometin stupid. Na by force 2 run airline? I tink he shld face his oil biz squarely. Oil & Air dont mix.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Air nigeria needs to be sued for every dime its got. We can get things right in this country but we must fight mediocrity with all dedication. Imagine such an incident and the shame it has caused. It was completely unnecessary and could have been avoided if people tried to do their jobs in the most professional manner. Kai!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Jimoh Ibrahim has gotten away with too much abeg. If govt doesn't want their tax, what about him stealing his staff pension and cooperative money. Now u contribute to buy fuel. WE DON'T HAVE A GOVT.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Hmmm... thank God the plane landed safely!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Same thing will happen if ppl foolishly fly DANA air locally when they become operational now that their licence has been lifted! All these fake businessess owned by corrupt Nigerians using Jimoh as their front should know that in d real business world,u do not cut corners and it is highly competitive too.
U either play by d rules or u drop off d radar! Can u imagine begging passengers forty pounds to gas up ur airplane? And they call him a billionnaire? What a joke!

  55. Oh my dayzzz...I can't believe what I just read. Wow. My friend experienced similar thing about a month ago. They were delayed a whole day and had to be lodged in a hotel as a result of a part in the aeroplane that needed to be fixed.

But for this case, i cannot believe that this passengers were asked to contribute for aviation fuel jeezzzz. And then come back later for their luggage wth. Where does that happen? Only in naija.

Is Jimoh Ibrahim really broke or what? Or is he been negligent. God help us.

  62. Its cumin to dem one by one. Thats wat d aviation industry deserves for declining services.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Nothing ceases to amaze me. This is another level of Nigeria's incompetence and failure(s). When you purchase a flight ticket, it covers all expenses: meal, aircraft maintenance, fuel, overhead-costs, etc. To make passengers contribute 40 pounds prior to boarding due to "no-fuel" is a shame, and utterly disrespectful and damaging to our image (which in my case needs a serious face-lift). Hey, Nigeria, wake up! All that money you spend frivolously on entertainment and miscellaneous government expenses should be reassessed, maybe you should use it and better our infrastructure.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Naija we hail thee. And Oga Braimoh Jimoh said everything is fyn and dat d airline is not going bankrupt. After sacking some staff and now this. Lets see what he has to say next.

  70. Not surprised at all. This Jimoh guy is something else. Those are the so called wizkids that OBJ imposed on us! Heard he runs these business like a private entity. They have to seek his approval to fuel an aircraft. This guy doesnt pay his Lagos State refuse bill and they stopped collecting his trash, what did Jimoh do? he dumps his refuse into the lagoon behind his house in VGC! Someone told me how he stopped his convoy to take a leak on Lekki expressway. The list is endless. I dont blame anybody but OBJ for enriching this moron. He has sold all the assets of Nigerian Airways both here and in London. OBJ's fronts, that why he gets away with all these bullshit. Money miss road. Bush Igbotako, Ondo State boy

  90. Really, A̶̲̥̅♏ Seriiusly waiting for the fulfilment of that part of my president's speech, "I will be the most praised". Before he leaves offices, coz everything that goes along with his administration spells failure, fuel subsidy, has encouraged embezzelment like predicted by Nigerians, he cannot do anything abt it, aviation sector is becoming more of a failure dan it was, traveling expenses on the parts if the ministers $ gov officials is on the alarming side, unemployment as nt only increased but evil acts like Boko Haram dat never existed or dared to show its face is not dancing $ laughing in our faces, president's wife goes to a forieng hospital for treatment of either food poisning or ruptures apendix, present wife of the president $ wife of the fornern president fight publicly in the court of law, over a sumptous piece of land, $ many more dat cannot be mentioned. Govt officals make issues like limiting the right of the press $ introducing new currency pertinent issues. More than 4 months subsidy can be said to have been removed, which of the exisiting refineries dat was the shout den been taken care of or, in the porcess of been taken care of? My heart bleeds

  100. I had ugly experiences in the past. My advice to Nija folks is stop flying with these cheap airlines that clearly have no regard for people who make them money.

I fly with British Airways or other reputable airlines with good track record. No airline is perfect but like the saying goes, "Buy cheap, buy twice"

    ReplyDelete
  101. I am going to buy another ticket cos obviously he has stolen money Nigerian citizens and yet no plans to refund us for flying his dead trap planes...... I will lick my wounds but he must surely pay from stealing peoples money and not giving a shit.

my parents even said there were rumours before they boarded that the airline was not going to serve food on the plane but they were served as normal on the flight.

so me i dunno where this rumour started from. Nigerian forever spoiling our own name!!!
