Patience Jonathan wants presidents' wives roles included in the constitution

Our dear first lady is canvassing for the inclusion of roles of presidents’ wives in the constitution. According to her, the inclusion would enable First Ladies get retirement benefits along with their husbands when they leave office.

What she said yesterday after she was sworn-in as Permanent Secretary in the Bayelsa State Civil Service
We the wives of political office holders, if our names are not in the constitution and our husbands retire with benefits, the Constitution amendment committee should also look into the issue of wives of political appointees. We should be included in the Constitution so that we too can retire with benefits. With that we can enjoy our career."
Enjoy their career? OK!

Apparently she's not only a permanent secretary, she's also a permanent fool. Enjoy your career my foot. #ShamelessGreedyDame

Anywaz back to her point, If that's the situation, every working woman who gives up her career to raise her kids, support her husbands career, (and vice versa) shd get compensation. My mom gave up her career to travel the world with my dad, oya govt go and start compensating her o! lolol...mtcheww...she'll be ok! mtcheww pls, fix the pension system first and clear out all those ghost workers, before you start talking...my granddad can't go and collect his pension because he sick and weak, they shd create a direct deposit system or something...maybe that's the job, they shd have given her and not perm sec...how is she going to fulfill her duties as first lady??? wait a min, she has none...i can go on and on, but abeg i'm done blabbing...

    ReplyDelete
  93. This is what I think. Since u do not want the woman to be without funds once the husband leaves office, the husbands retirement should be divided into two. A portion for the husband and the other portion for the wife. In this case if the husband should die or leave office the wife's welfare is taken care of. No need for constitutional amendment.

So let's see, I wake up and decide I want to pursue a 'Career' as a politician's wife and I achieve my goals complete with compensation, and when I decide i'm done with that particular politician, I get benefits. So I can 'move up' in my career and marry the next big wig politician and get even more benefits. Foolishness in high places. This is worse than being barking mad i swear.

  155. Pls people should mind there language on this blog. The way we cast aspersions on our leaders is unbecoming of a 21century individual. However, in as much as I don't support the way Dame and her husband , and other political leaders insult our intelligence, in form of d stupid policies they throw at us, most of us on this blog will do the same or worst if we are in the system. We are a product of the system. Most commentators on this blog have paid bribe before. In effect everybody is corrupt. In Nigeria everybody has a price. If in doubt ask Mr femi otedola.
2015 is just around the corner, register and vote, I'm sure some of us don't even have a voters card, for those that don't have you have no audacity to air your comments on this site or wherever. For those that have one, just exercise patience, 2015, go and vote for the person you want. The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Thank u

  157. I admit I have MANY choice words to describe this woman, none of which are printable. However, I have to give it to her ... she is honest! At least she didn't fabricate some cock and bull story about including the "office" of the first lady into the constitution so that she could improve the lives of "Nigerian women" or some other bullshit campaign tactic. For her it's about the retirement benefits!
    ...SMH for this country.

The truth of the matter is no husband can be living, eating and sleeping with such a wife as Permanent Secretary Dame Patience and be in his right sense. I think Nigerian should be ready to vote out these bunch of gluts and idiots come 2015. Dare Odejayi from Lagos.

  169. Rideon "Papay!" Why should women married to executives have to sling back, talk small talk, do little things, focus on charity and subdue their inborn fierceness. I dont think you have to be a perm sec though to be fierce. maryam Babngida rewrote what first ladies were supposed to do in her time. You can take it a mile further. I am with you my "baayisha" woman. We work hard as women in the Niger delta while our men drink akpeteshi. So I know that when you have to sit and tweedle your thumb most days, you are not going to be happy.

  170. she's not the problem, the system is the problem.
in anycase, she's just expressing her personal opinion. it still needs to be amended...
on another level...it is the ELECTED representative that should command the retirement benefits. NOT the elected family, or COUPLE. 74

  172. Patience Jonathan is a woman with tremendous identity crisis. she is a woman with inferiority complex. Her limited education or may be poor quality education( you don't even know what to believe any more) is a challenge to her. In her new position as first lady of Nigeria, she is exposed to may career women all over the world with superb education and self achievement. She is completely traumatized by these women and their achievements. Her new foray into this controversy is to assert herself as being successful sans the spouse. Unfortunately, she has only opened the Pandora box, and she appears more silly and crude than before. This illiterate woman should please shut up and stop disturbing the peace of Nigerians. Even if you put a MAC lipstick on a pig, it is till a pig. She is till the old patience of mammy market fame. All those other diplomas awarded to her are false and will not change her from being known as an illiterate woman who got lucky but chose to be that god who flew too close to the sun

  175. this woman is perfect idiot, no sane nigerian would ever allow this goat to grace on a field that was not made for her. she does nothing for the government or nigeria, except spend our money and help her husband in stealing our money and properties. Now if it was Mrs. Liyle Imoke who asked for this inclusion i would understand because she has done a lot for the state government, or even governor fashola's wife, i would understand because of how wisely they have used their place in community to help the people their husband govern, instead an illiterate thief like patience wants us to pay her for being married to a thief and a mugu and running our country further down the drain, she is mad. Constitutionally, there is no president's wife office, they are just extra accessories that their husband carry along, nothing else exciting...

    ReplyDelete
  176. she is tinking of enjoying her career when the nation under her husband chaos. She must be a joke.

    ReplyDelete
  177. It is patriarchy that would make such a proposal possible. If a man is married to a woman who is the president of a country, it is not expected that he will be an appendage to or prop behind his wife.

Why is it that we expect a woman who is married to a man who serves as the president to not have a professional life or career that is independent of her husband?

If society expects to a woman in such a situation to not have a professional career that is independent of the presidency, it should provide her with a wage, a pension and other relevant benefits. Society should pay for its patriarchal expectations.

  181. LMFAO! The one person who should be concerned is her husband. She's getting streets named after her, 'returning to the civil service' after 13 years 'leave of absence', and asking for retirement benefits. It looks like she's planning to check out of the marriage if 2015 doesn't pan out. This one is starting to make Turai Yaradua look like a joker.

  183. Lol! I had to read what she said over and over again, because I can't just comprehend how someone can say this. It is only one full of greed and lacks understanding of the Nigerian constitution dat wld say this and even go as far as saying it sld be included in the constitution. Nigerians did not elect the president and his family into office they only elected a president, to lead the nation. Madam dame patience, your role is to support him and ensure he leaves an good and permanent mark in the sands of time in our nation. Please, before you speak, go and read your speech and understand what it says. Kai! Just the that of what she said makes me shudder.
