Family of 9 die mysteriously in their sleep after burying their grandmother

Culled from The Sun
Grief and sorrow enveloped Umuakuru village in Emekuku, Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State yesterday Sunday July 8th following the mysterious death of nine members of a family whose bodies were discovered in their rooms early hours of the day.
The family had buried their 98-year-old mother, Mrs Felicia Njoku on Saturday [July 7] in their country home. The deceased include Mr. Pascal Njoku, his wife Juliana and their five children, Ebere (first daughter), Ifunanya (second daughter), Chibueze (son) Jackline (third daughter) and Uchechi (last daughter).

The family
Others, who also died along with the Njokus, were Mr. Njoku’s sister, Christina Uba (nee Njoku) and her friend Catherine who accompanied her to the burial.

A family relation who pleaded anonymity told Daily Sun that with the burial of their mother over and attendant funeral activities completed, the embattled family retired to bed late in the night but could not wake up the following day.

However, fingers were being pointed at a member of the family whom the source said had earlier threatened to deal with the late Njoku and his family over a lingering family problem. Not prepared to take chances over the threat, Njoku’s wife, Juliana reportedly compelled him to relocate herself and their children for safety, but her advice was ignored.

When Daily Sun visited the deceased’s residence, their corpses were yet to be taken to the mortuary as armed police and soldiers cordoned off the area to prevent possible breakdown of law and order as the youths from the area were sporting for action. An elderly man from the village told Daily Sun that the corpses would not be removed from the compound until certain rituals were performed to appease the gods of the land.

“We have never witnessed this kind of tragedy in our village. I am 90 years of age, this type of calamity had not happened before and something serious must be done to appease the gods.” Another source told Daily Sun that a pastor, who visited the family last Wednesday before the burial, suffered a spiritual attack and was unable to continue the prayer session.

A woman, who narrated her ordeal to Daily Sun also, said a day to the burial she defecated in her dress unknowingly and was rushed to the hospital. Suspicion of the victims’ death from fumes of generating set was dismissed by eyewitness, who said the family had none.

    1. What is wrong with the youth of today? Is it really that hard to read? The eye witness said the family did not own a generator. I doubt a neighbour's generator would be close enough to kill them while not killing the people in that house.

  20. Food poisoning from eating poisonous cassava meal or fufu from already contaminated cassava. We have no forensic labs in Nigeria to test and determine cause of death so they should simply bury them and forget about the matter. IGNORANCE+CORRUPTION=PREMATURE DEATHS & UNSOLVED MYSTERIES. Nigeria for you.

  35. This is very sad. I remember when myself and my bro went for my grand dad's burial in the village, just an argument with a relative, he made a threat he was gonna deal with us later that night. Trust my mum, we left without attending the burial... One really has to be careful especially when there's jealousy.. May their souls rest in peace.

  39. Everything isn't spiritual for christ's sakes! They were probably killed by a poisonious gas, contaminated food, or poisoined food. U guys should notice d lady in d black shorts seemed to have foamed from d mouth. Means its some sort of poison. Either in d air or food. Unfortunately, we can't know d cause of death cos of how backwards this country is

  40. Nigerians and their blatant regard for knowledge.U trust them to ascribe the deaths to mysterious circumstances and superstitious nonsense. So its the grandmother that killed them?Ignorant things.

From the picture you can see poverty. How many people sleep in that room by the way??????I see a room with food warmers/flasks,tomatoes,spoons etc etc.
Whether an eyewitness dismissed the use of a gen or not is irrelevant. An autopsy needs to be done ASAP.Either food poisoning,CO poisoning,or another poisonous gas would be the cause. But i trust Nigerians, they would rather wallow in their gross stupidity and ignorance and hold tight to their unfounded unbased senseless religious crap.

    GET EDUCATED PEOPLE.KNOWLEDGE IS POWER.
smh for you people. And watch them try to tear me down.NONSENSE.

May their souls rest in peace.None of you deserved this.

  46. Carbon-monoxide poisoning from gas cylinder.

People need to stop bringing God into every crappie! I didn't think religious fanatics were allowed to use the Internet!

On a controversial note, if this involves fetishism, then this is a typical example of igbo people's disregard for human life. Bloody animals the rest of us can't wait for your madness and incivility to be expelled from our lands.

    Bye!

Aunty Linda which kind wahala be dis how can a whole entire family perish over nite generator fumes did not kill them neither did dey die of axphilation.
poisoning is ruled out bcos our bodies metabolism differs if poison knocks you out with in 4hrs another victim might take 8 hours or longer or mite survive it the foaming in the mouth is a camouflage to suspect poison.except it can be proved that they all consumed meal from the same source which is impossible. my only suspicion is black magic

I don,t think jazz would hv had the power to kill every one at once.Jazz is man made, they don,t hv d power as huge as tht,the makers are nt God.In my opinion, this is a likely case of carbon poisoning or food contamination.May their soul rest in peace.May God give the family heart to bear this.

  61. Oh! What a preposterous calamity!! This is beyond human conception. It undisputably needs unalloyed spiritual evaluation. From my viewpoint, this egregious event can only be caused by these two options: Either by the deceased grandmother (who may be a Witch) OR a spiteful member of the family kindred.
MAY THEIR SOULS REST IN THE BOSOM OF THE LORD!!

  64. Nigeria needs a 'federal department for the investigation of paranormal activity' (FDIPA) its main purpose being to investigate, document, confirm, discredit and eradicate these kinds of incidences.

Every developed country at one point or another had such organisations, manned by people in the know about these kinds of things.

The Vatican still has such an organization that proves/disproves miracles etc.

The police infrastructure can't answer these questions and civilians put themselves and families at risk when they delve into these dark underworld of the unexplained.

Some people are gifted, let them use their gifts in controlled environments to help uncover the origins of these phenomenon.

Often it could be gas leaks, freak accidents, poisons...sometimes they are negative energy based and when forensics uncover the truth, then preventative or remedic measures can be taken to save lives.

My people die of ignorance, ignorance is a disease, enlightenment is the cure.

Proactivity saves lives, stop praying to the air for answers.

  65. Let the Police do an autopsy to find out if there's been any physical cause of the death. Also let the deep spiritual members of the village engage in a reprisal ritual for the dead to avenge their death. There's nothing hidden under the sun.
