We were forced to fly the faulty plane - Dana Air official

An official of Dana Airlines who called into Channels Television anonymously confirmed to the station that the ill-fated Dana plane had persistent history of faults with its hydraulics in recent times and it was not supposed to have flown. She said the plane was faulty after it left Lagos and stopped in Calabar. She alleged that the Indian owners of the airline threw caution to the wind and insisted that the plane must fly in a bid to maximise profit, thereby sending the plane over to Abuja to pick passengers, when it should have being returned to Lagos for further repair. Listen to her above...

  3. Omg!! Indians are so greedy. After paying a very huge compensation which i know the family of the victims will sue their asses for, The fed govt should seize their license as well. Using human beings for their selfish gain aint cool.

  8. Nigerian people are still the cause of this accident because even after the owners said the plane must fly, it would still have to be checked on ground at the airport, officials would have been paid to look the other when matter concerning that plane arises.

i dont understand how a plane that has been giving issues was not brought to the attention of someone capable of grounding it.

This is man slaughter not accidental or error of ommission or commission.

    1. I concur.Nigerian govt offers human life at a pittance so you can't expect foreigners to pay a premium 4 something that has been so cheapened.Demuren applauded a pilot that almost crash landed d same plane at MM2 runway on the 11th of may without authorising that due diligence be carried out on same plane b4 subsequent flights.I think Stella Oduah(with her crocodile tears n diamond encrusted jewellery),Harold Demuren and all others culpable 4 negligence shd be fired and jailed.

  11. The management of that aircraft and other people involved should be held accountable for their actions. If its here in the US they will look them up for life and throw away the keys. I know that can never make up for all the lives lost but anything is better than nothing.

  19. This is appalling to say the least. This shows how much value we have over human beings and how much we are willing to go to save lives as opposed to satisfying self interests. Now that the lives of 152 people have been lost, does that compare to the amount of money that you gained per head from the plane ticket? No I don't think so.

Sometimes, I am like western people like to over do but I am impressed as to how they value lives. They would try their best and exhaust all their options before they make a conclusion. It hurts more in this situation because lives could have been saved. How can you have a fire department with no water? How can you insist on flying a plane putting innocent lives of people at risk claiming to wanting to make profit and yet you sit in the comfort of your home knowing at the back of your mind the consequences of the decision you made which could turn out negative.

The level of greed in the country is something else. Later someone would say it was their time. I think some deaths can be avoided e.g. this one that happened. The man that lost his wife and beautiful kids, or the one that went home to celebrate with friends at a wedding not knowing her fate. I don't blame the people. If the government has an attitude of me myself and I, what do you expect the people to do. Run and die for the country? Hell no... Everyone has that mentality as well because of the way the country is run. Everyone is looking for what will satisfy them, how much they can get without thinking that their actions might have a negative consequence on those around them.

I don't know if there is hope for our country, it is sad how people are taken for granted. Their focus is on frivolous things and the most important ones are taken for granted. GEJ is changing Unilag into Maulag honouring someone that has died, yet people are loosing their lives everyday. If its not book haram, its plane crash, or a tanker crashing on the highway. I am highly irritated and disgusted at the example these leaders are setting. May God help Nigeria.

    1. Miss bee, my sister, u hit the nail right on it's head. What level of accountability will The relevant responsible parties have. I think the rule of law shd apply and bring justice to those affected. A case for the bereaved where 1. Dana Airline management shd be tried in court and found guilty of manslaughter criminally and gross negligence tortiously. Damages shd be awarded in the event of a guilty verdict for victims' family. No Amt of compensation is equal to the loss of precious lives, but perhaps this sort of litigation could hinder irresponsible airline owners and also deter any more negligable acts.
      2. There shd be a reshuffling or re organisation of the regulatory body: the CAA shd implement stricter rules to control safety in air travel.
      3. Airline owners need to show up to date airline
maintenance before operating for the public users.

  20. I am weeping for my country.. So a foreigner( from a 3rd world country) can control and inforce bad policies... And we the owners of this country can't do nothing abt it. A Nigerian investor will not dare put indian(s)in jeopardy if it were the other way round.
But of course they use us how ever they like cos we re complex we see the white man as superior so wht ever he says STANDS!!!
Shame on the lawlessness of this country , and yes shame on lack of regulatory body!! Shame on bad Leadership...

Blame game, finger pointing but this is wat us earthlings should be concerned with now. Work out your salvation with fear and trembling because death is a call we all must answer .It dosent matter how well, how right and how good we live or plan our lives. Our eternal retirement is a decision we must make while still alive.Either we travel by air, road or sea....even if we remain in our own homes....Death still grabs!!even d certified healthy people die for "No known reason"......but we ave a choice to plan our future, our eternity just like we plan for it here on earth.Whose insurance r u using??The blood of Jesus or Spiritual wickedness...no matter whose side u r just remember that..Death is sure!!I have decided to work out mine God helping me..What about you?Jesus is THE way,THE truth and THE light in him there is no darkness ATALL.Don't fall asleep or Let go of the wheel.losing a loved one is like an amputation....you heal but the scar is everlasting.May the holy spirit comfort every troubled heart.I am in Awe of my maker .I am humbled

  26. Oga o!!..there I was during my last trip to 9ja..had to go see my people in Abuja...glad I kept my cool throughout the 5-6 hour delay..God does have a reason..
Reports are abound about Pre-Existing Safety issues when Dana bought the Airlines..
We should start a petition to get rid of Dana and get some of compensation to the victims..breadwinners..whole generations wiped out..
I never trust Indian dem business..remember back in the day in the UK..we bought baked beans..opened it..was all mouldy..we checked the dates..was almost 2 years old..their business model is get it cheap and old..and market it to get a fortune!!

  27. I watched that stuff on Channels too. as sore as we all feel, we shouldn't give in to unconfirmed rumours. For all we know, the so called anonymous Dana staff could have been any Ada, Suliat or Hauwa. It goes both ways, Dana can sue Channels tv on the long run if that caller is not produced..but right now, tempers are high so lets not go into that just yet. RIP Prof Onwuliri...an intellectual guru and former vc of Futo as well as Uche Ulasi, a Dana flight attendant and ex student of FGGC Owerri:(

  31. I'm hearing of more people i know who died. Too shocking. The thing now is that Dana Air is dead. It will certainly go the way of Sosoliso and Bell View. The authorities must now take the aftermath seriously and prosecute the owners.

I've been reading posts all over the place; a guy said his wife resigned recently due to safety concerns. She lost 4 of her best friends on the plane.

Someone else said he was on the same plane from Uyo on Friday and the front doors couldn't open so they all had to exit via the back.

This same plane had hydraulics failure a few weeks ago and they didn't repair it, they just decided to fly the coffins and now families are grieving. They have blood on their hands.

  32. OMG!!! So over 157 lives were lost "in a bid to maximise profit"????? May the person that authorised the flying of that aircraft not find peace forever IJN. 37. Nigerians are still to blame for the crash because even though the owners wanted the plane to fly. It would have probably gone through some sort of check when it was still on ground.

Nigerian officials who would have probably collected money and looked the other way when matters of the ill fated flight arises.

Is it possible for a plane which has given so much distress, issues and complications be over looked time without number to be 'repaired' and allowed to fly.

Nigerian officers with Dana who knew of the situation could have easily reported to the appropriate authorities to endure that the plane was grounded.

This is not accidental, or due to errors of omission or commission. but outright MANSLAUGHTER.

From the owners to the pilots to technicians and even crew members who had at least an inkling that the plane was not fit to fight could have stopped the disaster waiting to happen.

Who cleared it for take off and landing? Who were d engineers fixing and borrowing parts all over the place? Should I go on or do u not get that we r d fundamental cause of our problems?

  54. Why call and report to Channels now, why didn't you make a pragmatic move in reporting the first hand information you had prior to this. If only you had taken such initiative that would have steered a viral awareness, thereby compelling and detering the airline from embarking on such a trip because their evil greed would have been exposed through shame. Sometimes we blame the govt, although without gain saying they are the root of the problem. Nonetheless, we have our part to play as citizens when we witness situations such as these and donor report it first hand without recourse. I'm too hurt don't even know what else to say.
Once again to all the souls on Dana Air, to all the souls Lost in the Bauch Bomb Blast May God rest your souls.

  56. Seriously. I have never seen a country like ours were foreigners ride roughshod over indigenes.

These Indians. Hmmmnnnnn, we've yet to hear the last of and from their 'wickedness in high places'.

It's only in Nigeria were foreigners compete with locals for mundane retail businesses as the Chinese and Indians do.

If you go to some of our major markets even Alaba, some of them are now renting shops for kobo kobo businessed.

The worst are these Indians who treat our people like fart and is not as if they are really any better than us, them and their garlic odorized bodies.

Annoyingly, they are likely to get away with this. Do you guys know that most times one Indian uses his one visa to bring in illegally as many as 20 of his kins?

Yet our so called authorities look the other way eh? Kai, people, we don suffer for this obodo Nigeria just because our ogboni possessed rulers dey corrupt. See as life just snuff out of 153 persons and still counting.

Thunder fire all of such Nigerians sworn to evil and wickedness against their own even to your 100th generation.

  57. Rubbish!!! A whistle blower blows the whistle before a tragedy not after. What is her point now? She knew all this, why didnt she report to NCAA?? Why didnt she go public with this info before now? The station manager that said the plane shouldnt fly, why didnt he go public with this blatant disregard of safety before now??? Na we dey do ourselves. Now, they are coming out with information that could have saved lives.

    ReplyDelete
  58. All I can say is,why does God let these things happen? Why doesn't it happen to those wicked leaders and pple who r supposed to ensure the saftey of lives and properties? Where in d world do u hear a plane crashed coz of a fault? Only in naija. Plane crashes elsewhere occur due to bad weather etc..

  61. I hate when people start acting like hypocrites . Let the right thing be done, let the right thing be said.
No body knows the spiritual standing of the people that were on the plane. Imagine your sister, brother, wife children dieing without recognition and someone is come ending about blame game. Don't get it twisted if we throw caution in the wind we will get to heaven before our time. Please I hope they get arrested for what they have done, yes 152 people died but in truth a lot more people have died with this grief that could have been averted.

  62. And there is no employee protection in this country. If this lady reported. 87. Indians are the owners, its not today, most of the fraud cases we used to handle in our law firm,Indians were always involved. The same with the current Blackburn owners, all they care for is profit, even if it is going to spend 2p to achieve it.

  92. It was the at the time of this same NCAA Boss in 2005 that we had 10 Air crashes in one year. GEJ should better think of what to do with the businessmen that are managing our aviation industry. These people can sell their late mothers' grave for money. CASH AND CARRY TECHNOCRATS

  93. why do u all get excited over an unconfirmed report. isnt it too hasty to start jumping to conclusions. like seriously that could have any tom dick or harry speaking as well as competitors of Dana Air. in as much as i dont fancy indians and their business antics much , i feel we should be more objective and stop being swayed by sentiments and emotions.

  94. Get rid of these fucking dirty pakis. How come it's only in Nigeria they can do this??? It should never have come to this if the fools whonare meant to protect us did their job. Probably took bribes. They should all be done for manslaughter. Dana air shut down and every single Indian thrown out of the country. Hate those rats.

  97. Now the crying is over Mr. GEJ. Clean your eyes, drop some visine and get to work in revamping the regulations of our aviation industry, putting in place harsher punishment for negligence, and arresting the money hungry indians and nigerians running DANA. Only then will Nigeria respect you. If not you are as good as a puppet.

  99. I believe the account of this Dana staff.I worked with Indians for about a decade and, trust me,those guys are the black belt holders in cutting corners and deceiving their customers. They do that colluding with their Nigerian accomplices(usually top mgt. staffs). They boast that with a little bribe, you can have your way in any office in Nigeria. They evade taxes,under-declare consignments etc.Anyway,it is the rat inside the house that invite the one outside that there is food in the house.....
