Shooting and teargas at UNILAG gate (Photos)

Police men stormed University of Lagos gate some minutes ago and began shooting and throwing tear gas around. They've locked the institution's two main gates causing serious traffic around the area. Students were supposed to continue their protest today after suspending it yesterday out of respect for their VC who was buried yesterday.

I wonder o....What is in a name?..whatever happened to OOU and OAU?...This is the height of indiscipline!....Linda sorry to say but that lady was right when she said you AREN'T A ROLE MODEL AND WOULD NEVER BE ONE!..you know the new name so y don't u stick to it?WTH!...They should start locking pple like u up,trying to foster trouble!is it a good thing that students take to the strs bcos of a name change?isn't abiola a yoruba man?would it have been better if they named it afta obj?or a hausa person?this man died 4 democracy and contributed to the economy and by so doing created jobs!so what's d problem?this is just the height of indiscipline!na bcos una see una president finish na that's y!..!sad!

    4. I don't subscribe to u insulting the blogger,Linda.Seem u had beef for her before. Like u said MKO contributed economy and died for democracy, but why can't the national assembly,a symbol of democracy named after him? The house had suggest the national stadium be named after him,why not?The naming has political undertone,South West won't make the mistake we made the last time. This is the 2nd time it will be happening.OBJ 2nd term and Jona 1st term, both huge dissapointment.

  30. Our government has lost it again through our shoeless President. UNILAG students were asked not to staged any protest for now, as youths who respect and obey their elders, the instruction was obeyed. The institution has declared a 2 week academics free period to address pressing issues, which students also obeyed without protest. This morning as academic activities have been grounded, students obeyed not to protest and been restless decided to gist amongst themselves cracking jokes and playing ball, only to be attacked by the Police by 11 spraying tear-gas spontaneously at them. An asthmatic patient had a massive attack and we hope she doesn't give up. Our government is applying violence to peaceful people. Right now (11:45am) the students have decided to face the Police and have succeeded in pursuing them. These are youths that have been pushed to the wall. We don't want another Syria, but the government has provoked the youths. The youths are fighting for what is right peacefully but the government is approaching violently.. The Youths are ready to fight for what is right.

  61. SOME TIMES IT IS GOOD TO READ AND EDUCATE YOUR SELVES SO THAT YOU ARE NOT HOOD WINKED ON OBVIOUS ISSUES BY THE GOVERNMENT OF THE DAY.
THE 'UNIVERSITY' REMAINS UNILAG UNTIL THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY AMENDS THE ACT THAT ESTABLISHED 'THE UNIVERSITY' IN 1962. SO MAULAG EXISTS ONLY VERBALLY DESPITE COMING FROM THE PRESIDENT. SO THE STUDENTS ARE RIGHT TO PROTEST. YOUR PRESIDENT MADE AN ILLEGAL ANNOUNCEMENT AND HE AND HIS CROONIES WANT TO 'DO WORKING FROM LOOKING AT THE ANSWER IN THE BACK OF THE BOOK'. THESE STUDENTS ALSO PROBABLY VOTED FOR HIM SO THEY SHOULD RIDE ON. ALL IT TAKES IS A STRAW TO BREAK THE CAMELS BACK AND SOMETIMES IT TAKES WHAT MAY SEEM AS MUNDANE AS A CHANGE OF NAME TO DO SO. UNFORTUNATELY UNCLE JONA PICKED ON THE WRONG NAME TO WANT TO DRAG INTO HIS MESS. IT IS ALL POLITICS AND NIGERIANS, FRIENDS AND FOES OF UNILAG NEED TO RESIST THIS ONE. AND THEY SHOULD ALSO RESURRECT THE UNI-IFE/OAU MATTER WHILE WE ARE AT IT BECAUSE THAT ONE WAS A DECREE UNDER MILITARY RULE. OYA OVER TO THE COURTS!! IF THEY ARE SINCERE AND FOLLOW THE BOOK THE STUDENTS WILL CARRY THE DAY
