Falana demands identity of VIP who closed airspace and delayed landing for 30 minutes

Popular lawyer and human rights activist, Femi Falana, has demanded that the federal government reveal the identity of the VIP whose movement caused a partial closure of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja, last Tuesday.
Falana, who was on an Arik Air Flight W3 271, said the plane stayed in the air for an extra 30 minutes after it approached Abuja from Lagos because the airspace was closed.
Really? Please continue...

“Having regards to the June 3, 2012 Dana plane crash in Lagos, which killed all the 153 passengers and crew on board, as well as 10 other persons in their homes, I was subjected to unwarranted mental and psychological torture,” he said. “Most other passengers on board were equally traumatised as the Arik plane was forced to hover in the air for 25 minutes.
When the plane eventually landed, I was reliably informed that there had been a restriction of movement at the airport for over one hour. In the process, the fundamental right of hundreds of people to freedom of movement was violated by the airport authorities at the instance of the said Very Important Personality.”
In a letter he sent to the Ministry of Aviation, Falana demanded to know the identity of the said VIP so as to enable him institute legal action against the person. “In the light of the foregoing I am compelled to request you to furnish me with the name of the said Very Important Personality to enable me to sue him for endangering the lives of over 150 passengers,” the letter read.
This request, he said, is made pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, 2011 which has imposed a duty on all public officers to make requested information available to members of the public.
“Take notice; that if you fail or refuse to accede to my request within seven days of the receipt of this letter, I shall not hesitate to apply for an order of mandamus at the Federal High Court with a view to compelling you to disclose the identity of the said Very Important Personality forthwith,” he stated.

the person that is responsible for the delay should be questioned and charge to court for attempted mass slaughter, this is absolutely rubbish!

God will punish them all... The blood of the innocent is upon their heads weda they like it or not... 47. NYC-1 says: Useless vagabonds who fail to understand that their lives are no more sacred than the life of any other fellow Nigerian. I am surprised that Jonathan agreed to fly without first asking the countries he flew over to shutdown the airspace so that he could visit Brazil. Cowards who will rather have their fellow citizens perish, than be inconvenienced. I wonder when Nigeria started having air traffick congestions for them to be doing this nonsense?

What difference does it make if you debunked the rumors that Nigeria Airspace was not shutdown for your wife, Patience to travel on that fateful day of Dana air crash, if such irresponsible act is practiced under your watch? What type of country is this? How can you disrupt planes from landing, and hovering in the air for 30 minutes beause of your so called VIP who wants to travel? Where in the world is this type of thing heard of? Nigeria makes me sick! Does your VIP pass gas (mess)? Does your VIP make dodo (shit)? Does your VIP clean his/her anus after making dodo? Does your VIP wash his mouth in the morning? If your answer is 'yes' to these questions, then kiss my foot! Tomorrow they will ask what can you do for your country; yet, they live in self-indulgence.

Falani, a tree cannot make a forest; I hope the suffering masses will join you in this legal fight. I am far away; I will pray for you. I crave for better life for everyone. How can someone who calls himself a leader ask us to get used to dying in bomb blast?

  52. I know for sure that airports have presidential lounges. If the VIPs feel that their lives are at risk, they can just park their aircraft in a secured isolated plane in the tarmac then when they want to board, a bullet and bomb proof shuttle will take them and their entourage to the entrance of the plane for them to board and fly to wherever they wish to go without disturbing those who re meant to catch important appointments. A plane hovering aimlessly can cause heart attack to many hypertensive patients on-board. This is really really callous.

  80. Falana may seem to be right in what he is seeking for from the Airport Authorities but is restriction of movement at the airport when there is a VIP movement a bad thing? Is this the first time of restricting aircraft from landing when there is such movement or is it because he was in the flight? It is done all over the world even in the US. Assuming we have alternative airports for VIP's, it couldn't have happened. So Falana should thank God he landed safely and should think of other good things for Nigerians and not to demand for identity of a VIP. We have bribery scandals going forth and back in the country and he has not done anything or voice out the decadence in the society. Let him go and sit down joor.

  82. Like the lawyer has established in his argument that this is a violation of his civil right but everybody's civil rights are being violated and trampled on in Nigeria every day.

I have not been able to establish as a matter of logic or reasoning why air spaces should be closed for anybody and for any reason other than for a determined emergency landing of another aircraft in order to minimize imminent danger to thye landing aircraft.

However, they do this with impunity in this country. Iived in the United States for about 30 years and not even the president of the greatest country on the planet can slow down how much more closing an air space because he's about to take off or landing.

Am not sure why they do it, if they are scared for their life or just trying to show their supremacy over everybody else but this SHIT and other utter nonesense that are prevalent in this country oughtt to stop for God's sake.

There should be a class action suit against the Fed government, the NCAA and every other agency that is associated with this crap. Not in this country but at The Hague.

  96. As much as I dislike our current president, the truth is this is standard practice in most countries. Even the United States! I was once on a flight that had arrived Kansas City and was descending for landing when the pilot announced that Dick Cheney's plane was scheduled to take off in a few minutes and aircraft were not allowed to land or take off. So, we hovered for about 20 minutes before resuming our landing. It's a security precaution. An understandable one when you consider just how vulnerable being in a plane makes the heads of the 3 tiers of government. Read a few Tom Clancy books and you get why. So cut them some slack on rthis one. It's just that our leaders rarely merit sympathy or understanding even when they deserve it.
