Passengers on an Aero Contractor flight to Uyo in Akwa Ibom state had a flight scare earlier today as the air jet missed the runway in an attempt to land at the Uyo airport.
The flight ran into a terrible rainstorm according to aviation officials.
The Chief Pilot of Aero safely landed the plane after a second try. All passengers disembarked without incident and the airliner has returned to Lagos. (Sahara Reporters)

Each and everyone of the airplanes used in Nigeria should be taken for quality control. None of them have integrity. Its all about the money for them. God help us.

God forbid! Me fly in Nigeria? NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Who wouldn't be scared? Just who? The fear of Dana air is the begining of wisdom. A higher premium should be placed on human lives henceforth. Aviation officials should ascertain d technical condition of any plane before it would be allowed to fly.
God has not given us a spirit of fear but of sound mind. after Dana crash alot of people including pilots r flying with fear in their hearts. look at it dis way 'lets not be selfish, we have lost loved ones, God has gained them'
hian !!abeg oo,me sef buy ticket to abuja for aero, nna but as it na bus i go take goo .cos even aero aircrafts are all akpako!!if P-square can buy 400million naira private jet ,why cant a whole naija afford good aircrafts bikonu, GOD we have bad leaders ooo .
The Aero Contractor flight I took to Enugu is so old ehn.... Fear catch me all way till the plane land for Akanu Ibiam airport. Federal govt should just ban all these old outdated planes..God help us.
How well trained are these pilots? What is their level of experience? Did anybody do personal and professional background checks to ensure there is no question mark. We keep blaming the mechanical and electrical status but we need to question all these pilots that majority of them only had training in flight schools with only helicopters. The mechanics of a helicopter is different to an extent from a mighty boeing.
Pls be sure of wat ure saying b4 u drop such comments o.no pilot worth his salt is trained wit a helicopter.virtually all pilots are trained outside Nigeria in good schools nd pay quite a tidy sum of school fees.dere's a universal standard for pilots world over!
Err... so the second person who commented and has a problem with 'bad news', you'd just like to ignore this information and get on the same air carrier wouldn't you? Oya, carry go, but go by yourself abeg.
because of few plane crashes u won't fly again?mind u air travel is the safest means of transportation...proven to be more than 50% safer than land transport...the problem is just that Nigerians ignore simply safety precautions and a lot of accidents could have been avoided! yes plane crashes still occur elsewhere just like car accidents but then again chances for these crashes to occur are slim and they are usually unforeseen occurrences... to travel, look for airlines that have a good and long standing reputation look for airlines with big planes esp for long distances airlines with new planes took...and highly reputable airlines like emirates buy new planes... do adequate research just be sure you're safe..and the rest, leave it to Jehovah God
Please Linda, try and confirm these stories before you copy what has been said. Sahara reporters has wrongly reported an incident.'The flight ran into a terrible rainstorm according to aviation officials.'The runway was flooded, the pilot made a clear judgement call and diverted to the nearest airport (Calabar). Don't just copy and paste my dear, take your journalism a step forward. Kudos to you.
It seems many don't know what it means by " missing runway" during a bad weather. At any landing, visibility to runway MUST NOT be less than 300 meter, that is the standard for all plane during landing. If the visibility is less, the Plane will be forced to try another approach for landing, which is known as missing the initial run way. This happen a lot during both foggy hamattan, snow and raining season. I just wonder why press is making stories from a normal procedure. Are you saying plane should crash land during bad weather?
the pilot ran into rainstorm as he was about to drop on the tarmac and had to make a brave decision not to land. he aborted the landing and instead went to land at the calabar airport. the passengers were brought back to uyo when the weather was confirmed ok. we(the passengers) really commended the pilot for the decision when we finally landed at uyo.
The pilot diverted to Calabar airport to land reason that it was raining heavily in Uyo and the visibility at the uyo airport was bad.We have terrible airport facilities which needs to be upgraded.Something similar happened in lagos from abuja we had to land at the MM Int"l airport cos the pilot couldn't land at MMA2.
First of all the cost of training a helicopter pilot from scratch is almost 3 times the cost of training a fixed wing pilot. They are 2 entirely different fields. It's pretty sad when people open their mouth and start to talk so much shit about pilots after such an accident. It's hard enough flying in Nigeria that lacks adequate navigational aids or ill fucntioning metrological and dysfunctional radar services. If not for anything you should be thankful you were able to set foot on the ground again. The rainy season and harmattan are the most trying times for a pilot. Be thankful to God.
My newly wedded wife and i were on board on the said flight, and i was also sitting by the window seat watching closely the wings of the plane. i was so scared to see the plane suddenly taking off when we were 4seconds away from the tyres hitting the tarmac because of weather conditions. The plane was flown to Calabar where we landed and refueled and waited for like an hour and half. Some of the passengers disembarked and left to board cabs to Uyo, but i had to wait on board because of my wife's & i luggages that were already checked in. Thanks to the Almighty GOD, we later landed safely at Uyo after taking off from Calabar. AERO , i beg! go buy new planes oooo, una no want make i enjoy my wife? Pilot, Kudos to u!i actually tot u were not that competent, but i corrected myself, na una old planes(flying coffins) Cabin crew , don't argue with passenegers again, i know a lot about safety! for ur info i be Safety Advisor for my Company, i can sit u down and lecture u on aviation safety, Shioooorr!. You keep taking sides with your airline, instead of telling the truth. I saw your faces, u were scared to death, i actually a white guys face turning blue becos of fright, a woman with two kids on board already vomiting, and some passenegers in the middle seats to the front row started speaking in tongues.some passenegers were fast asleep , can u imagine that! @Wifey, so surprised to see you stay that calm, i tot u would also hav spoke in tongues like the rest, u really beat me to it. love u so much.
u peeps are really stupid, its so appaling to read comments like this coming out of illetrate nigerians.damn its standard procedure for pilots to do a missed approach when thet cannot continue on a safe profile to land.would u have had him continue and put ur life in danger.mr check the pilots professional background, wtf do u think we go to do in flying sch, wipe our asses?geez every pilot is professionally trained b4 they released to fly commercially.flying is still d safest way to travel.if u aint happy wid it,take a bus dum ass
