Kano state finds husbands for 1000 women

Kano State Government is sponsoring a matchmaking scheme where single, divorced and widowed women can sign up to find husbands. Over a 1000 women in Kano have joined the scheme and more than twice that amount of men have applied to be given a wife.

After the couples pick each other, they will be allowed to court for just a few weeks after which they will tell the scheme organizers if they want to marry each other or not. If they agree to marry, then their names will be included in a mass wedding that will be held by the end of April 2012 and will be financed by the Kano State Govt.

But get this, after the wedding, if the man wants to back out of the marriage, the state govt will fine him N1.5m. So I guess for most of these men, this one na marriage for life! lol

  9. Madness has started in the North, first it is Gombe state Government giving Almajiri's N6,500 for doing nothing but begging on the road and intends to review it up, now its Kano state match making, ah!!!!!!!!

  10. ANOTHER BETTER WAY TO IMPRISON PEOPLE. CHAI! SO OF ALL D PROBLEMS WE R FACING IN DS COUNTRY IT IS TO MATCH MAKE PARTNERS FOR MARRIAGE THAT KANO STATE IS INTERESTED IN. ARE DS PPL THINKING AT ALL? SO ALL D PPL DAT BOKO HARAM KILLED THEIR HUSBANDS WILL GET AN AUTOMATIC HUSBAND. OR ARE THEY THINKING DAT GIVING THEM HUSBANDS WILL GUARANTEE SECURITY IN KANO? NDI ABOKI NA UBURU ATURU! TUFIA!!!!

  16. I find this story really interesting. Yeah Linda. Wherever you got this from? This is goooood.

Kano State government has responded to a social need of some peole. This may look ordinary and some haters on this blog will soon start ranting but it's cool all the same.

As if finding them spouses is not enough they ingeniously gave the subtle threat of dare you not divorce. Kudos to the government. I'd like to see how this plays out.

Please if you have Atobatele and Bamidele's numbers kindly call to give them this good news.

  17. Hehehehe. O Boy, see by force joining ooo. Hilarious, but i think it makes sense. Although it means an increase in population, but its worth it if this reduces rape.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Nonsense.
A dating thing should go across several months, if not a few yesrs.
Not appropriate and well thought out. Too many restrictions in the North. You cant take a girl out and understand her over a sizeable period. You know in the old days sha, Yorubas used to marry on the basis of whether the woman had babies on her - as in they will go and ask the traditionalist.
    Not in suppot.
In any case, I guess it works for them.
    But they should upgrade.

  23. This very interesting. Kano State government na wa. I think it's brilliant and even thoughtful. On one hand it may sound stupid and unserious of the government.

Viewed side by side with the challenges modern life is throwing singles way in terms of marriage it might turn out to be a great help from the government.

By the way someone quickly call Atobatele and Bamidele and give them this goodnews.

  28. I read this yesterday and couldn't help shaking my head... out of ALL the problems they have in Kano, the only thing they are concerned about and willing to spend money on is marrying women off??? WHAT IS WRONG WITH OUR LEADERS??? Are they totally clueless? Who comes up with these ideas? And THIS will stop prostitution??? Oga o *loud hiss*

Wonders shall never end!!! Linda is Kano govt also going to finance the education, feeding and general welfare of the children that would be given birth to in these marriages? This is so ridiculous! Smh!

  30. Why are husbands scarce in Kano? Are you not allowed to marry as many wives as possible in Islam? Mtceeew! Real nonsense by the government. Instead of them to tackle illiteracy which is their biggest problem, they are wasting their time on useless initiative.

  39. it'd seem 'marriage for life' if this isnt a culture where polygamy is allowed. So the man wants to back out, he doesnt have to leave. He can always take a new wife that he wants....thats the catch.

Question is what happens to the woman if she wants to back out?

    ReplyDelete
  40. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA too funny i love the part about the fine though lol they should equally be fined if they take a second wife

  43. I already have 30 wives (including Linda Ikeji and Tonto Dike), but I'm looking for virgins. Linda and Tonto were not virgins when I married them and I (still) can't get refund of the dowries I paid. Smh. I hope Kano State government will allow me to marry another 30. I want to beat my existing record. I will be grateful if Kano State government will allow me to marry 30 virgins (simultaneously) and have my mass wedding (via Skype) within Kano State government's mass wedding. I live in hope. lol

    ReplyDelete
  66. NYC-1 says: This is absolute nonsense, despicable and irresponsible. The governor must look like an adult man with a brain of a six-year old child. How does he work out the dynamics of a relationship? Suppose the couple decides to relocate(nomadic ppl) and later divorce? How does he keep track of them; how many 'Malu' can the man sell to raise N1.5 Million? Do they have a tracking device? There are more questions than answers to this baloney. These 'Abokies' are just too promiscuous for the good of the nation.

  68. lolol @ the fine. at least the guys will take it serious and think twice before saying I do. what if the woman decides to back out? lol, there should also be a fine for them too...also there are always exceptions, e.g.when the guy/lady is being abusive. these people have time o! see me trying to justify the idea...luv is a beautiful thing sha!

  73. Am highly impressed by the Govt of Kano State on this good initiative of mass weddings.Because this is the only way to eradicate or reduce the rate of prostitution at both local and diaspora. The spate at which some unpatriotic Nigerian girls indulged themselves towards prostitution in Italy or Germany is quite worrisome. AM very much sure that most of the girls who made comments against this development are 96% prostitutes, and if they should be opportune that way, they love it, because we've seen so-many of them posting their anonymous profiles on the badoo, seeking to suck men pricks. Pls for more inquiries, visit the internet and find-out the rates of Nigerian women prostituting in Italy or Germany, and which part of Nigeria they belongs to.

  74. This is a welcomed development and i subscribe to it wholesomely. i want to recommend that other states governments should follow suite and get their singles married as soon as possible. the thing is, in the case of one man one wife, do we have enough men to go round?
