If you return pistols, you will receive N50, 000 and if you return AK 47 rifle, you will be paid N200, 000.
The governor of Imo State Rochas Okorocha announced this yesterday at a stakeholder's meeting, saying that N100, 000 million will be deposited in a bank to start off this reward programme, which was created to reduce criminal activities in Imo state.
Will it work?
Lol! Nice one. It might work
ReplyDeletemy dear Lin, with that guy, nothing seems impossible. it could work really cos he is totally a non quitter and once he is set out for stuffs, he sha makes it work somehow....so for me, i would say 50/50
ReplyDeleteWhere's he getting the money from?
ReplyDeleteIf I inform on him, who will pay me the N1m?
He's a clown. All these deliberate diversion of public attention while he and his pals loot the treasury.
Sharrap, what brilliant idea has ure idle brain produced apart from commenting on lib? What more must rochas do 2 prove himself b4 u conclude he has no bad intentions
DeleteWow...don't know wot to say, just hope it ll work.
ReplyDeletethis gov is really trying...we imolite must testify....he is always trying 2 be different frm other...but what if your gunz are registered...and u kept it 4 security reason..
ReplyDeletei really belive it won't work out,it will take nothing away from what is on the ground already.is just another way of wasting state money.
ReplyDeleteWhat if I report 10criminals. Would they giv me 10million cos I know plenty. I would even report my self :d. Ol'boy see correct business
ReplyDeleteOkay, so let's think this through; if some guy from the street purchases a gun for one tenth of the money, and takes it down to the police station to hand in, would he be qualified to receive the reward money?
ReplyDeleteLinda report me. We would share d money 500k/500k
ReplyDeleteFirst, he's paying school children money and now this!
ReplyDeleteAs much as i understand that he's trying to help and also stand out among his colleagues, the reality of this venture still comes down to MONEY! Where in their budget is this included? Are they generating it from tax?
In as much as i think this is laudable, we all know how Nigerians love to abuse things. Guys would probably start setting up 'mock' kidnappings to claim the money.
this Governor n his introduction to politics texted books policy.......I just dont buy the idea
ReplyDeleteThis guy means business o, he is realy changing things in Imo state. I pity those criminals is all I can say.
ReplyDeleteTobe.
I better start scouting for kidnappers oooo.if I bring boko haram will he pay x10?wish him well.
ReplyDeleteMe! Me! Me!!! Am a criminal sombori report me pls,we get 2 share it #50/50 o! Good biz # we nevr carrylast
ReplyDeleteDo u guys seriously think that if you (for example) take a gun 2 a police station they will just say "thank you sir, here is your money"? They will certainly question you about the source of the gun and believe u me,if you talk rubbish u are going down.
ReplyDeleteIf I buy an AK-47 for twenty thousand naira and turn it in to d police, dat means i will be getting 200k? Omo see legit business.
ReplyDelete4 some commentators, Gov. Rochas wealth is way beyond Imo State money. It is highly possible cos he has been a philanthropist.
ReplyDeleteNa money we dey tlk so naa.
ReplyDeleteRochas D Multi Billonaire....Am Sure Som Of Dis Monies Ar Comin 4rm his personal pocket, cos he was Super rich,b4 even becomin guvnor,,,his warming up for presidency.
ReplyDeleteNaaaaa it wont work cos immediately u hand over the rifles they will arrest u, sad to say the criminals r smarter than that!
ReplyDeleteEhn.........
ReplyDeleteNYC-1 says: Gov Rochas mean well for Imo state. Here in New York, we have similar programs. Inasmuch as the program is good, implementation is where the challenges lies. Isn't it NPF Owerri Command who are going to implement the program? In light of this, IT WILL NOT WORK, PERIOD.
ReplyDeleteGov Rochas is a noble man and I pray God Almighty to sustain and protect him. But, the program will not work. Those Command guys love money so much that they would ambush anyone such money is paid to.
I will advice the Gov to start a program that will benefit pregnant women and premature deliveries. Let NPF Owerri Command do their job; they probably know where to find the bad guys; but, they will not go after them bcos they benefit from such activities.
Let's look at it this way ...In every gun returned 10 lifes are saved in Nigeria not only in IMO STATE.THANK GOD FOR JESUS
ReplyDeletethis deyinka onabanjo, stop showing us your picture if you have nothing to say; and stop stalking Linda's blog.
ReplyDeletegiving info about kidnappers is ok. But for submitting guns, hmmm, i dont tink so.
ReplyDeletewait does this okorocha of a guy have any older sons, I have crush on this man's character and dedication, I hope his sons will have it. :)
ReplyDelete@kelechi for you information the guy is worth over 500million usa dollars, made on his own. According to his asset declaration before he became a gov, his company is worth a lot. He just entered office in 2011, and look what has achieved, offering free education and now trying to stop crime, I hail him. So kelechi no talk wetin you no know.
ReplyDeleteWhy are we such optimists, am not saying his ideas will or will not work, but lets be real, he is trying something... thats more than can be said of the best and most of current Nigerian Governors. New idea requires real faith; if this doesn't work, then we can welcome new ideas. Why is it that Nigerians are so good at badmouthing someone else from the comfort of their homes when they can't even come up with an alternative ideas themselves. Would you rather he stuff his offshore bank account with that money?
ReplyDeleteDon't badmouth if you don't have better option. Have some confidence in your leader and maybe, just maybe this ideas might just work!
all these eastern states...am proud of them.
ReplyDeleteDont know wat the southwest be using their budget for.
It might work. They tried it in cleveland (thou you get only like $200 for returning your gun) but it helped.
point is, he is not stagnant. If it fails, we know he tried.
I hope it goes well
why not get these bastards jobs.... rubbish initiative.
ReplyDeleteIt will be nice if people can just give free information regarding criminal activities, thats the way crimes are solved, people giving leads to the police, and police working efficiently with the leads that they have.In America they say" if you see something, say something"
ReplyDeleteKponkwem!!!! Oga Roach, u r dealing it with an issue that is bigger than these patch patch ideas. Social reform and a structured and transparent system of progress coupled with endless hope and you will get people to value their lives and stop toting AK47s. GO figure how to make dat work with your yeh yeh dunder head lead poisoned cabinet.
ReplyDeletePlease I'm in love with this guy cos he cares about his people, Much better than other governors that have come through IMO state.
ReplyDeleteI guess we just have to wait and see what he's gonna do with the state cos Imo state needs a miracle.
@Kelechi what kind of stupid question is that?Rochas hardly uses government fund for anything,he has been a multimillionaire/billionaire right from time. He is one of the very few governors not relying on the coffers to run the state and if you go to imo state now,he is really doing a splendid job.
ReplyDeleteRochas has been a philanntropist since the early 90s. Doling out plenty of cash for laudable causes. I'm pretty sure most of the money he uses for these projects are from his pocket. Nigeria needs more people like this man.
ReplyDeleteHmm...the whole free education thing hasn't totally worked yet and he is doing this? He said students shouldn't buy books, that he'd buy for them. One term is gone and the students are still reading their heads! I think he keeps biting off
ReplyDelete*more than he can chew
ReplyDeleteSome of the comments here, na wa. What sense is there in this scheme? All these na publicity stunts wey no go head.
ReplyDeleteOf course it won't work eventually. Some of the comments here already has exposed the weakness in it as it's easily manipulated.
Rochas if you are serious put in place a more proactive approach. Use most of that money to train a corps of detectives that can easily ferret infos on, identify and arrest criminals. Then ensure financial security for them. Before long results will start coming in.
U all will say politicians eat naija money witout considering d masses. @least he is eating with his people
ReplyDeleteImo is poor with multiple unemployed graduates. If jobs are there the kids will be happy and drop the arms, if politicians and old money bags stop funding criminal activities, then there will be none. Drop a gun, get the money and restock! This is nonsensical but we are watching!
ReplyDeleteMy dearest Gov has the money 4it oo so don't even shout"loot"come to Imo and see his works, and for the people that want to buy guns and show the police,I pity your lyf oo cos u mite juz end up in the cell as a criminal
ReplyDelete50/50 chance it might work. he needs to retrain the police force in Imo first.
ReplyDeletei pity his people this man is clueless and whimsical... not good for an administrator
ReplyDeleteApart from paying informants, which ia good... For the others crime pays doesn't it.
ReplyDeleteQF
ReplyDeleteLyk som1 rtyly said nigerians abuse opportunities. I hop there's a strategy put in place jst incase of fraudsters...i rily hop ds works!
With hus moni Biko? Wldnt 100 mill be best invested in developing the state? Total waste of moni, and after that, there ll b no criminals in d state? Na pole 4 him cabinet go give their relations gun 2 collect that moni.
ReplyDeleteAdmission of failure. Only in Nigeria that crime pays. Niger Delta amnesty, now its Okorocha amnesty. Mchew
ReplyDeleteNyc innovation, hope odaz wld emulate dis---must every1 comment,as 4 dose of una wey dey yarn yakata 4 ere,esp @ kelechi-11:23pm, rochas was a philantropic billionaire b4 he came in2 power,u dnt av 2 wash ur dirty boxers in public place!--all d best ahead ROCHAS++imo's messaih!--
ReplyDeleteGood idea for the business minded. Let's start reselling guns to the Government. *sigh* Wasting money.
ReplyDeleteBIG CLOWN strategy to steal, finish and join ibori in uk prison or another country cos am sure u wont live in imo

ReplyDeleteI cannot see how it will work!
ReplyDeleteA NICE TRY!!
ReplyDeleteI swear Nigerians have low sense of reasoning. So this is how to rule abi. How many people are in d state Y can't he use d money to help better the lives of youths, build free work shops they can all benefit from.even if he gives everyone 1mil each sef d money will remain its better than this dumb idea.
ReplyDeletemight work o, but i prefer jobs to raw cash, all they need is to keep the arms-for-money transfer going steady. God will help him with wisdom.
ReplyDeletewrinkles disappear when you treat in and out, take flaxseed oil supplements and watch your skin plump up and glow!available at www.thestunninglady.blogspot.com
Dont ask if it will work, ask how cam we make it work? This is unpredented in this country if I am up to date the news. This has worked in countries all over the world, why should Nigeria be different. We should start asking how do we replicate good things in this country, afterall the bad has no problem manifesting itself.
ReplyDeleteIS THIS NOT PUTTING THE INNOCENT AT RISK AND MAKING THE LAZY ONES RICH? I FEEL IT'S ANOTHER WAY OF PUTTING HIS POLITICAL RIVALS IN A TIGHT CORNER.WELL LET'S SEE HOW IT PANS OUT.
ReplyDeleteNa wa o!
ReplyDeleteWhere was this man educated, are there no serious schools in iboland?
KMT ....Linda dearest i'm getting to the point where your blog is depressing me. Lol. For real, apart from the fact that you seem to be posting Igbocentric topics more regularly, which I have to be honest many people are noticing, there does seem on a more general scale, a serious despondency in the apparent brain matter of our country men...I digress, please post stories of Nigerians doing good things worldwide and at home balance things out.
Until Nigeria divides officially, please maintain an unbiased journalistic sense of duty and let us know of some good (maybe hard to find) hausa people and show us some pictures of nice, descent beautiful yoruba people.
bored.com of you 2squareds and Eni Indos ...I beg.
its you prerogative though, if you like don't post this....
Back to this Idiot politician...he obviously wants to bankroll his crooked family members, if you say you're paying them for informing then that would appear legit. Ole! Tief!
Most pple that wrote comment are empty up, they don't hv brain yet they are tlkn, give dem small postion and dey will nt perform yet they will cmn here and be talkn nonsense as if they can even manage their own family. Linda sorry if i'm kind of rude but pple shld kn how to comment and stop sounding stupid meanwhile there are many ways to kill a rat he is just trying if things can change and there are other project the governor is doing as well all in all he is trying to bring Imo to a speed hence all those block head shld close their foolish mouth apparently we have to watch if it will wk or nt it's all abt putting strategy in place to verify which one is real info and fake one...
