Gov Fashola condemns roadblock in Lagos during First Lady’s visit

What Lagos State Governor Fashola said yesterday Friday April 13th:
Lagosians were needlessly inconvenienced yesterday (Thursday). It dawned on me the need for public officers generally to be more sensitive to the people we serve.
It is particularly worrisome that this is not an elected person. I think we all must check how security agencies use the movement of high officers, especially VIPs, to disrupt citizens and taxpayers, whose money were used to fuel all the vehicles and all the apparatus that we used to block the roads against them.
It is an issue that calls for greater sensitivity. I understand the need to protect the VIPs, but it must be done in a way that it does not inconvenience anybody.
It should not get to the level that we close the roads in the state because VIPs want to pass.
If they let us know earlier, traffic can be managed and citizens here respect their leaders and they will gladly allow them to go. I don’t think they deserve to be kept on the road in a standstill for five hours.”

    2. Thank you for being very objective. Fashola has really shown himself on this. Who did he address during Tinubu's road block?

    3. Mumu. Point of correction tinubu does not close down roads. So a governor speaking up for his people will make him lose credibility. Does that make sense?

      Delete
    4. you are so right dear. I was a victim when tinubu blocked all roads to stadium. I was almost late to work. Fashola didn't say a thing. Now it's pdp and he is showing himself. I guess it's a party thing for them afterall, not that he is really concerned. Terrible leaders!

    5. Yeah, Governor Fashola can be hypocritical. That's hw he condemed Jonathan sending soldiers to quell protests, but get quiet when police and thugs brutalised protesters @ the Lekki toll.

Its all politics anyways. They don't want outsiders tresspassing on their turf.

  28. It just shows the kind of idiots we have in govt. Imagine disrupting the businesses of thousands of people just because of this empty-headed illiterate woman. And, is her husband any better?

And for those of you complaining about Tinubu's birthday causing traffic, yes it caused traffic as expected but the roads were not blocked, even though we had so many real VIPs there, not some bunch of nonentities who can neither read a paragraph or have contributed anything noteworthy to the growth of the nation.

An interesting fact is that Gov. Fashola moves around Lagos everyday and he DOES NOT USE THE SIREN. He moves around quietly like any of us. Go figure that.

With all the wahala and bad publicity we have abroad,it would be an added disadvantage if we cannot protect the first family!
Trust me,pple from Ghana sef will not want to come to Nigeria!
My point is,d issue of road block cannot be dealt with in isolation of our numerous probleMs in Nigeria which has a ripple effect on everything!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Charity begins @ home, Tinubu nko?

    ReplyDelete
  42. I luv dis man,he has sense everytin he says makes brain.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Tinubu's party caused traffic, yes, but so would any high profile event. Most event centers don't have adequate parking, and until road officials begin to tow vehicles parked on the road, we'll continue to have problems. That said, roads were not closed off during tinubu's party, the crowds just caused traffic. How can you close off major access roads, in the commercial hub of lagos(VI) and environs? On a work day? And not just when she's approaching, hours before her convoy even gets to that road. Its only illiteracy that will make someone do such.

Kudos to BRF. We're not asking him to carry gun and fight, even if he knew, just show a bit of compassion is all we ask. And he has done so. To even challenge her actions is worthy of praise. How many other govs will issue such a statement?

    ReplyDelete
  44. I see why the country is underdeveloped. There are too many tiny brains around. We read comments from politicians against one we don't like and take it as wise talk.

1, Fashola is the bigger irresponsible person here. Is he saying he had no prior knowledge of the visit? If not, I have to say I see why insecurity and robbery are rife in the state.

2, Fashola knows most of you are semi-literates and logical thinking is way beyond your reach. He accused the army of stopping protests in Lagos yet he refused to let protesters do their thing for the Lekki toll gate. Didn't he just spend Lagos money on Tinubu's birthday. And yes that also disrupted traffic.

    3. Anyone that is pushing this incompetent Fashola, that talks from both sides of his mouth, for the presidency doesn't wish Nigeria well and deserves all the sufferings that come with it. Until you start realising Lagos is a dump will we search for genuine leaders to move the country forward. PDP, ACN all thieves. The man has been there for 5 years yet he can't send any of his kids to any of the public schools. He is a failure abeg!

4, As for GEJ and that moronic embarassment of a wife of his, I can't wait to see the back of them.

  52. Shut up your big ass month Fashola or whatever they you. Hypocrites...all.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Oh come on. He didnt know? He is losing credibility. This event has been on Patience's'calendar since last year. Some of the roads were blocked with Rapid response squad vans - so Fashola didnt know? The increased Lastma and yellow fever personnel came from where? While i dont think blocking the roads is okay - we are where we are and Lagos is a notoriously traffic unfriendly state. Shouldnt something have been done - maybe have more serious traffic plans at alternate routes or sthing. Or announce to people a day before about massive work on the island (since for security reasons - u cant say she is coming) - that way people with non essential business on the island stay away - something.

He should not politicise this jare and step up so pple can say - inspite of it all - Lagos is performing.

Now that the rains are coming - maybe he will come and issue one statement about pdp govt not fixing the roads when we get flooded out again - inspite of the fact that it happens every year and we can see it coming

    ReplyDelete

    1. I have a contrary view, but I like your comment. Of course BRF knew she was coming, of course he knew orders had come from above to block the roads, but he cannot contravene such an order. The best he can do is ask lastma to manage what they can. I'm happy he at least acknowledged the suffering we endured.

  59. JAMB Question:

who is the governor of Lagos State?

    a) Babatunde Fashola
    b) Asiwaju Ojuyobo Tinubu
    c) Dame roadblock Jonathan
    d) All of the above

    right answer carries 40marks

    ReplyDelete
  60. This is great but I hope it's sincere and not just because of the ACN / PDP thing. It reminds me of the whole soldiers on the streets of Lagos thing. Do all these people really just show up anywhere without contacting the state government?

    ReplyDelete
  61. Much as I like fashola, he seems to have imbibed the habit of speaking from both sides of the mouth. The roads may not have been blocked during Tinubu's birthday unlike Dame Peshe's visit but the outcomes were the same. Traffic gridlock. Nobody cares about what caused the discomfiture, we are all concerned about the outcome. Tinubu's birthday should not have disrupted Lagosians just like Peshe's visit. Both are bad and one and the same.

This was the same way he condemned the military putdown of occupy nigeria protesters whilst conveniently forgetting that he did worse to occupy lekki protesters by brutalizing them with agberos and police...

He should stop playing politics and address the issues facing Lagos. The rains are here and very soon, the roads will be flooded, yet ACN has been in power for 13years...

    ReplyDelete
  62. Of course, I don't buy the argument he couldn't contravene orders from above. Why didn't he make any public announcement with respect to that. He had the opportunity to warn Lagosians. I will say this again. Health, education, security in Lagos are appalling. The common people are suffering. After so many years in power and the money realised from taxes, Lagos is still in such a messed up state. Fashola, Tinubu, GEJ are not fit to be leaders. We need to put politics and sentiments aside and root for competent capable people. Come to think of it like GEJ, he was also imposed on us
