Mirror Mirror Premier: Is that Ankara prints I see everywhere?

"Mirror Mirror" movie starring Julia Roberts opened yesterday Friday 30th March in the US and it was a visual delight! Paying homage to our African Wax Prints.

It was all done by the late oscar winning Japanese Costume designer- Eiko Ishioka. A standing ovation please, for our Ankara prints.

  4. Only Ankara?

Damask (Arabic: دمسق‎) is a reversible figured fabric of silk, wool, linen, cotton, or synthetic fibers, with a pattern formed by weaving. Damasks are woven with one warp yarn and one weft yarn, usually with the pattern in warp-faced satin weave and the ground in weft-faced or sateen weave. Twill damasks include a twill-woven ground or pattern

  6. The style, theme and use of Ankara/Damask is very similar to the work of Nigeria's very own talent Yinka Shonibare.

  23. Linda, Ankara is not African. It is a type of fabric printing popular in Europe. Its actually the name of a town. African fabric print work can be seen in Adire, Kente etc

Take your job more seriously, Linda. You are the unofficial Information Minister. Google is your friend. Have a great day everyone
