Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Dr Jide Idris said:
Lagos is currently experiencing heat wave, which is a prolonged period of excessively and abnormally hot weather with temperature exceeding 32.2oc and it is usually accompanied by humidity that usually lasts for at least one day but could last several days to weeks. Continuous exposure to this excessive heat is dangerous and could cause problems such as heat rash, heat stress, heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke.”He also asked people to drink plenty water and avoid drinks that contain alcohol and caffeine, use protective gadgets such as hat or umbrella, sunglasses and sunscreen, take cold baths and leave water to dry on the skin, as well as never leave children and pets inside closed cars.
Global warming. We need to take better care of our planet. It's not everything that we should wait for God to come and sort out. Good suggestions though.

ReplyDeleteI hope Dr.Jide Idris will send this to Jonathan and Okonjo-Iweala so they know how much we have been suffering as a result of no electricity for 3 continuous weeks. PHCN has said they closed Kanji Dam and have no clue as to when electricity will be restored. This govt has proved to be a devouring one. It increased fuel price, deregulated poor people's kerosene so they have no choice but to substitute with charcoal and firewood. The govt has ensured constant blackout so people have no choice but to use the generator for temporary relief in this season of heat wave thus contributing very well to global warming. The Federal Govt of Nigeria should be blamed and fined for contributing to global warming.

the heat can actually fry plantain. those that have cars without ac will roast in traffic not to talk of hawkers, bankers/marketers on foot (foot soldiers)

let's get the facts straight....as recently reported by NASA, the chemical reactions that make the sun have in recent times become more violent and the flashes are that which reach the earth's atmosphere....while its true that global warming is a major cause of the climate change and hence sudden increases in either temperatures and rainfall and others ...the recent heat wave is majorly caused by the fact that the sun just got hotter

ReplyDeleteThey should first give us stable power supply before all these formatting joor...the fumes from gen, the bad roads and poor regulation of the transport sector such that vehicles that spray tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere are allowed to move around; have contributed to the problems...or is it our purchase of second hand aircrafts emitting dangerous light gases into the ozone layer thereby reducing its mass? yet all the environmental experts could attribute to this was deforestation? Wow..abeg which kain experts be all these blockheads sef? Fashola did well for his project 'Green' believe it or not the plants and trees r helping in their own way...but we need more from him...#my 2cents.

if the government really cares, they will provide light so parents can turn on the fan for their kids throughout the night. The heat is unbearable indoors. In developed countries, the government have cooling centers where people can go for water and enjoy air conditioning. Nigerian government, do not only advice, pls take action to help your people.
ReplyDeleteFuck that how about they give constant power, I just got off the phone with my mom and all the food in the house has gone bad, she has fallen sick cos it's so hot and no power for 3 weeks. Only so much generator can do.

ReplyDeleteI believe every State should emulate Calabar State as in the Aspect of Planting much more trees especially on every main roads. This will Aid and reduce the level of heat penetrating the earth core which will in-turn reduce the Heat we are currently experiencing. Also, Afforestation should be embraced. Our youths can help us in that Aspect. All pregnant mothers are also advised to drink plenty of fluid daily... Water most preferably. This will reduce unnecessary complications during child birth
