Omotola's OYEP foundation gives 20 widows amazing makeover

Mrs Mercy Orisakwe before and after
Mrs Florence Cletus before and after

I'm sure most of you have seen these photos but whatever, I want it on my blog too...:-). The Nollywood goddess in December celebrated 20 widows through her Omotola Youth Empowerment Programme (OYEP). What she did for them and more photos of the women when you continue...

The 20 Widows Makeover was aimed at pampering these women and boosting their confidence and self esteem. The widows were treated to first class treatment, beauty regimen which comprises of a total makeover starting with facials and massage by the reputable Fresh Look Spa and celebrity choice, H and H Spa.  The women had their hair done by celebrity hairstylist; Ugo of Make Me Beautiful, and make up was by House of Tara. Afterwards, they were treated to a shopping spree with clothes from upscale fashion shop, Every Woman and finally a photo session with international and celebrity’s favorite, Kelechi Amadi Obi.

Omotola's words about the widows makeover
This is something I wish I or someone had done for my mother.  If you give these women money, they would spend it on their kids. This time it’s about them.  When my mother was alive, I didn’t know I was going to loose her so soon, she was a very beautiful woman, but because of all her struggles, she neglected her personal needs, she didn’t get to enjoy all these things like going to the spa, going shopping. So, this is one thing I would have loved to do for my mum who was a widow for 10 years. It was lovely and fulfilling to see the entire transformation and I am really grateful to all that helped to make this happen.

  10. God bless you Omotola. I've seen these pictures before but never get tired of seeing them. The transformation is so unbelievable. Her comment on why she did this, won me over. It takes someone who has a good heart to think of doing something like this. I'm sure we'll see an increase in follow follow from other naija celebs. This has motivated me to do a bit more to help others!

  27. Truly amazing! At first, when I saw the headline, I thought - a makeover was nice but a bit frivolous but as I read Omotola's words, it really really made sense. God bless you Omotola, with blessings of things money can buy and cannot buy and favour all around! To the widows, I hope this gives them the push to go out and conquer their dreams for their children's sake as well as theirs.

  42. Indeed! everywoman is beautiful if they have access to the right products and places.

Weldone omosexy, more grease to your elbow, and just like oliver twist i like to ask for more to be done for them after the make over....like financial assistance to boost their business?

These women would be feeling more confident now...and who knows, another suitor might come calling? #wink-wink#

    ReplyDelete
  43. while i appreciate the fact that she has at least done something to boost the image and confidence of those widows i think its not worth the publicity being showered on it all over the blog osphere.

she gathered 20 widows together applied make up and a range of cloth, thats hardy life changing is it?
what happens after they clean off the make up and take off the clothes?they go back to their normal struggles she could have helped them better by setting them up in small and medium business concerns or some educational scholarships for their children.
its not worth the media coverage

  47. Is this what they need? OYEP is making things seem like the widows dont have bigger problems than their look. A complete make-over should include easing their burden cause if they dont have one b/4 they wont look like that. N Who says they wont go back the way they were when the burdens take over them. Waste of time and energy

    ReplyDelete
  48. This is really beautiful!! Two things:
    1. They look so posh, just like the women you see in Ebony magazine! Amazing!

    2. At first I was like, makeover? Wouldn't something else be more beneficial? But like Omotola said, the dear women would have spent it on their kids and not on themselves.

    Well done, Omotola!

Thanks for bringing out beauty from ashes from these woman. hmmm Nigerian mothers are beautiful sha :)

  51. They look good but look at the way these widows looked so wreteched and miserable before their make-up. Goes to show you MARRAIGE does not solve all problems. With the way Nigerian men die so quickly without leaving any savings or life insurance, marrying a naija man is a big risk. Naija men will knock you up over and over and then die and leave you with hardship and plenty mouth to feed. Look at the women looking like a shadow of themselves before the make-up. Poverty stricken 'married' but now widowed women. They are no different now from the single women that society likes to castigate. Such is life. Sad!

  53. Kehinde AND Lucabracee obviously didnt read her reasoning for doing this. what idiots. Do you realize a lot of these women only LIVE for their children. No one hardly ever does anything nice for them. Some of them, it is not even about the money you can give them but they need someone to show them care, to talk to them, to speak to them like genuine friends and the makeover will remind them they need to care for THEMSELVES as well and not just their kids. Omotola did this and more and you can see the glow in their faces.

The before pixs, shows the anxiety, sadness they have carried for so long, the after pixs, show how they will look if they give themselves a bit of care.It will give them courage and make them walk tall, and oh its a reminder for them that they can also take care of themselves a bit more. Thanx to OMO T. This was a good reminder for them that they can live also. God bless.

you are a blatant fool and a 48carat diamond encrusted TWAT
irrespective of her reasons for giving them the makeover omotola is enjoying the positive media coverage and adulations being showered upon her. what are the widows getting back apart from a couple of minutes of looking good??
today is sunday and i can assure you all the widows are back to their everyday struggle with the supposed makeover like a distant memory to them.

her excuse that any financial help will go towards their children is not tenable.no one will get their hands on money and intentionally starve themselves and feed the children, doesn't make any sense.

fair play to her if she is taking advantage of the widow's present dire situation to give her public image a boost but don't you dare tell me she is doing something that is extra ordinary or adding value to their lives.

i can go out tomorrow with 5 make up artistes and a make up bag and then randomly choose 10 widows apply make up on them and a change of clothes and I'm frigging mother theresa a beg gimme a break!!

    You are absolutely correct!

a makeover is a band aid solution.
these women have bigger problems than wigs and makeup.

And really what does it say about us as Africans that we feel that these women look better with a cheap wig and ever cheaper makeup.

Abeg, the first lady with her natural hair looked amazing before the bad wig.

To those that say that these new pictures show more positive and happier energy.

You do realize that OYEP decided which pictures to post before and after right. Obviously they are going to choose pictures with the women barely smiling before.

Let us try to be more critical people!

For those that do not appreciate it Kehinde, Anon and Co what have u done in the past one year to put a smile on just a normal person's face not to talk of hardworking widows ??? oh dear people.!!!!!i am a mother and thank God i am not widowed.@lubacree or whatever, its not the fact that the make up is cheap nor that the wig is expensive or otherwise.it also isnt about self recognition.as human beings our 1st thought is to do something for something.as Gods children,we pay tithe or give zakaat becaue we hope God will forgive us sins, pefform miracles etc in ourlives.so if omotolas reasons for doing this is self promotion, she is entitled.what have you done for anyone?i am a very comfortable woman byb the grace of God but i still have to put the needs of the childsren before that bag or those shoes i saw in the display windows.i pray for those that have nothing good to say about this gesture that they will never have a reason to choose between looking decent and good and feeding the children.amen.it wont solve the bigger issues for them but it will give them a few minutes of self worth.GOD blrss you omotola jalade ekehinde.

  79. @ Lucabracee and Kehinde, the whole point of the makeover is to give these women a boost of self-confidence to go out their and achieve their dreams. If you read the article instead of just looking at the pictures, you would understand this. It appears that you do not realize just how much looking good helps to boost one's self-confidence. You know we live in a superficial world where people tend to address you as you are dressed. So, helping these women realize their outward beauties gives them the extra confidence to conquer their world, for their children's sake as much as theirs. Like Omotola explained, giving these women a makeover is something for themselves, reminding them to take good care of themselves. What good is it if these women work so hard, don't take care of themselves and God forbid drop dead, leaving their children as orphans? In fact, seeing their mum look so happy, well dressed and beautiful is also good for the children who have suffered such a terrible loss. I am sure they don't want their mum looking so sad and unhappy all the time. I still say good work and well done Omotola!!!

  81. nice concept omotola. and for wot eva u did, GOD sees ur heart.
By the way, why is it dat, most make-over (after)pics are usually photo-shopped. But d before-pics are not photo-shopped. This makes BOTH the before vs after pics look so different and in contrast to each other. Its very common in Naija. But here in Uk, d photographer tries to apply photo-shop to both d before vs after pics

    ReplyDelete
  82. wao amazing just look at what a little make up can do to your age and they all look ten years younger. kudos to omot.

Gene are you seeing this? these are the kind of things we want to see you doing and not the waka waka that you are currently doing ans snapping picture with ever tom dick and harry mschew!!!

omot carry go jare my sister well done for putting a smile on these women as sometimes socitey do indeed forget them.

    ReplyDelete
  83. At lucabracee and all the bittered, negatively programmed haters who have refused to see any good in any human act, read carefully.

A little kindness can go a long way in putting a spring on someone's step, these women may just realize that they have potentials in them to be better. POVERTY IS NOT LACK OF MONEY, IT IS THE CLOSING OF THE MIND TO SEE GREAT POTENTIALS AND ABILITY IN ONESELF.

A poor person will always be poor if you like give the person $1million, just a matter of time. Poverty is in the mind and only a re-orientation of one's mind can bring possiblities to realities. I bet you that one of these women will make up her mind to work extra hard to become a better person.

Moreover, you do not know what it takes to be a widow. All they think is about their kids, do you know the admiration their children will have for them seeing their mothers for once LOOKING BEAUTIFUL? They will frame those pictures and use them as a referral point to tell the world that they indeed have beautiful mothers.

These can motivate kids in a deplorable situation to make up their minds not to remain poor. That you were born in the gutters does not mean you will remain in the gutters.

Finally, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR THE POOR? YOU...,YES YOU NEGATIVE SAYER! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR THE POOR?

ARE YOU WAITING FOR GOD TO MAKE YOU A SUPER STAR TO HELP THE POOR?
IF YOU HAVE SINGLED OUT ONE POOR PERSON TO HELP WITH THE LITTLE YOU HAVE, YOU WILL THEN APPLAUD OMOTOLA FOR THIS GREAT KINDNESS.

OMOTOLA JALADE EKEHINDE! MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY FOREVER IN JESUS NAME. I LOVE YOU SISTER AND I THINK YOU DESERVE A NATIONAL AWARD FOR THIS GREAT ACT OF KINDNESS TO THESE WOMEN THAT MANY SEE AND IGNORE.

    ReplyDelete
  84. At lucrabee and his/her cohorts...Omotola did more than gather 20 widows together applied make up and a range of cloth...
she took them to a spa...
    they got body massage,
    facials,
    manicure,
    pedicure,
    hair-do,
    shopping spree for clothes,
    she gave them cooking utensils
and a bag of rice each.

Someone on BellaNaiaja, knows one of the women as hawker infront of their street. DO YOU KNOW THAT SOMEONE LIKE THAT MAY ACTUALLY HAVE NEVER BEEN IN A SALON/SPA BEFORE?

Even if she did it for publicity sake, she still did it. Now if all the Nollywood stars will each choose 20widows randomly to show these kindness, am sure it woll make a great impact.

OUT OF THE ABUNDANCE OF THE HEART THE MOUTH SPEAKS..
Anyone who condemns this act of OMOTOLA is a very bitter person, and I truly feel soooooooo sorry for him/her. #SMH.

  88. You people should leave lucrabee alone. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. This is why I dislike most Nigerians. You always like to force your opinion on others. No wonder boko haram is dealing with Nigeria at the moment and you know no peace. Go and get a life Nigerians and stop forcing your half-baked opinions on other people!

    ReplyDelete
  89. @ Lucabracee

YOu know you have something to say when Nigerians attack you from all corners.

Don't mind all these fools that ooh and ahhh over these women's pictures.

That is why the plight of women will not change in Nigeria anytime soon. Instead of to lend her voice and influence towards changing the socio-economic realities of these women in a concrete way Omotola has deployed a rather ridiculous approach. slap european wigs and makeup on them and appear to be doing something and get accolades. Abeg!

As if these women will remember the wig and makeup next week. At the end what they will have is a picture.

I suppose for some of you that means the whole fucking world.

    stupid people.
