Hurricane Irene: Oh dear, not another disaster...

Hurricane Irene, which lashed parts of the U.S. East coast with ferocious 115mph wind gusts this morning has so far claimed the lives of at least five people, including one child. 370, 000 New Yorkers were ordered to evacuate their homes and businesses as experts warned Irene could wreak havoc when it hits the Big Apple because of storm surges pushing seawater ashore and heavy rainfall causing flooding.


The nation's largest subway system and arriving flights at the five main New York City-area airports were halted at noon on Saturday as Hurricane Irene spun its way up the Eastern Seaboard, threatening 20 per cent of the U.S. population. - Daily Mail.

Two fraudsters who convinced a pensioner she had won a £5.7m lottery jackpot before conning her out of her life-savings were jailed for a total of 50 months today.

Joshua Obasuyi, 49, and Julius Oweka, 48, were part of a Nigerian gang who tricked U.S. Professor Marie Lowery, 80, a retired lecturer at the University of Houston, Texas, into handing over £245,000.

She was strung along by the London-based conmen for nearly four years, after responding to a spam e-mail that told her she had won the jackpot in a prize draw.

A bizarre photograph album filled page to page with pictures of Condoleezza Rice has been found at the compound of Colonel Gaddafi after it was seized by rebels, who ransacked the lair.

Colonel Gaddafi had previously hinted at a serious admiration for Miss Rice. In an interview with Al-Jazeera television in 2007, he said at the time:

'I support my darling black African woman. I admire and am very proud of the way she leans back and gives orders to the Arab leaders. ... Leezza, Leezza, Leezza. ... I love her very much. I admire her, and I'm proud of her, because she's a black woman of African origin.'

The following year, Gaddafi and Rice had an opportunity to meet when the secretary of state paid a historic visit to Libya.

Rebels in Libya are killing black Africans

The rebels in Libya are killing any one who have black skin and they tell the world that they are killing Gaddafi Mercenaries.

One Turkish construction worker told the BBC: "We had 70-80 people from Chad working for our company. They were cut dead with pruning shears and axes, attackers saying: 'You are providing troops for Gaddafi.' The Sudanese were also massacred. We saw it for ourselves."

I just spoke with Lovely Okojie and below are her exact words

Odi and I are divorced? (laughs). I never signed any divorce papers. No member of my family signed any divorce papers. In fact there was no court hearing on Tuesday August 23. There was a hearing last week Wednesday where my father, sister, and lawyer represented me, but the case was postponed to Monday August 22. My family members didn't show up on that day. So who signed the divorce papers? Also how can a court in Edo State divorce us when we got married in Italy? The only way Odi can divorce me is to go to the courts in Italy after a 3-year official separation or ask Italy to transfer the case to Nigeria, which I have told him to do, but he would rather bribe a court in Nigeria to dissolve the marriage, which is not legally binding. If we are truly divorced, tell him to produce the divorce certificate...

Porn Magazine, Hustler, claims to have a sex tape featuring Rihanna and her Roc Nation label mate J. Cole.

"Hustler are in possession of the Rihanna and J-Cole tape," said a rep for the adult company. "We have seen it and we do not know what we are going to do with it yet."

J-Cole opened for Rihanna on her 2011 Loud tour and in turn she made a cameo in his music video, Can't Get Enough.

So far, the tweet above is the only response Rihanna has given to the claim...though sources close to her say there's no sex tape...

Mercy Johnson's fiance secures divorce from estranged wife

Mercy Johnson's PR agency, Big Sam just confirmed to me that Prince Odianosen Okojie has formally divorced his estranged wife, Lovely Okojie.

According to BigSam, the divorce was finalized on Tuesday 23 August, 2011, at the Igueben Area Customary Court, in Benin, Edo State.

Mercy and Odi's court wedding which was scheduled for today didn't hold. They are skipping that part and concentrating on the traditional and white wedding which will hold tomorrow and next respectively. The venues? It's guarded, sorry...:-). Only close friends and family are privy to that information. All the best to Mercy and Odi.

Col. Moammar Gaddafi, was yesterday declared wanted “dead or alive” by the rebels who seized his home on Tuesday, ending his 42 year rule.

The National Transition Council, the rebels’ highest decision-making body, yesterday declared that a $1.3m bounty will be paid to whoever handed Gaddafi or his corpse in.

I spent the better part of yesterday Tuesday, August 23, at the office of Ms. Derin Disu, the Special Adviser, Central Business District.  I appreciate that she did meet with me, last minute and without an appointment.  I did iterate my ordeal in the hands of CBD agents last week, submitted an official complaints letter, and photocopies of both the complaints letter and all receipts involved were promptly taken by Ms. Disu’s office and signed by her in my presence.  She called in a man referred to as DFA.  I don’t know what DFA stands for but I assume he is an assistant to her in these matters.

Dora Akunyili debunks erecting N150m home on NAFDAC land

There were reports recently alleging that Former NAFDAC Boss, Mrs Dora Akunyili, built a N150million home on a portion of land the Agulu community of Anambra state gave to NAFDAC during her tenure. (Read it here if you missed it). Well Mrs Akunyili says it's not true. Here's what she told reporters

How can I tarnish my reputable image by snatching pieces of land that do not belong to me? Even if I want to steal, would it be land? That land was Agulu dump site three quarters away. And do you know that the Agulu land was given to NAFDAC because of me? NAFDAC did not pay a kobo. Why would I steal from it? If I'd wanted to steal $1million every day in NAFDAC, I would have made it without blinking an eye. How much does land cost that I would now acquire another man's own? And you know land to my people is like oil. You can't take their land because you are rich. They have to either willingly give it to you or you pay for it. You can't just grab it without their consent.

 Well, that's it then!

Strauss-Kahn accuser, Nafissatou Diallo, to face deportation hearings

Nafissatou Dialo, 32, will likely face deportation hearings after prosecutors said she admitted lying on her application for asylum

"Lying on sworn statements is almost a guarantee the case will be reopened," an immigration lawyer said yesterday. "She's going to have a hard time."

She left her country Guinea for the US in 2004 after claiming she was gang raped in her country.

They are probably trying to get rid of her.
