The line will be active 24 hours, 7 days a week. The number is - 080072732255. It's 12-digits, but it works.
The help-line was unveiled today by the Minister of Youth Development, Bolaji Abdullahi, who also named Naeto C and BBA winner, Kevin Chuwang Pam, as ambassadors and spokespersons for the Nigerian Youth and the rape challenge.
hopefully it works!mtcheww
ReplyDeleteIt's about time if you ask me.
ReplyDeleteThe time given is contradictory - 24 hours 7 days a week/ 8am - 5pm monday to friday? which is it?
ReplyDeleteHow is 8am-5pm Mondays-Fridays active 24 hours, 7 days a week?
ReplyDeletei know the govt is trying to help but i dont see how this will work when most rape occur after 5pm or in the dark... so you have to wait till 8am the next morning to get help? this is definitely a bad policy..victims should be able to get help anytime of the day, 24-7,
ReplyDeleteshould have been an easier number to memorise.
ReplyDeleteso if they call the line, what happens,
ReplyDelete1. they rush down through the traffic with a siren
2. or they call the nearest police station who ask for "report" first
3. or they fly down there in their dreams whilt the poor victim suffers
Abegi. If they want to do anything, they had better assign a death sentence by
1. eletrocution of the genitals to all rapists
2. national parade of the molester being dragged round five local governmenmts with people stoning them on their skulls.
3. let the molester relax for a whole day in a colony of angry ants and bees
4. Let the person be dismembered and his member fried in hot oil with sausages for him to eat "on national tv"
Honestly, moses law better pass all these ones. maybe i should come and right laws for y'all
You cant prevent rape with a call. no you cant.
about time too...let's hope it's not some random token gesture..needs proper follow-up investigation!!
ReplyDeleteYou guys shld stop being stupid. There is probably live agents from 8 to 5 but u can probably leave your info after hours. Its a good step. They are not 911 so we shld not expect some1 to be there 24/7. Gosh give props where it is due
ReplyDeleteOkay, I hope it works. If it does work, and the officials don't take forever or ignore your calls, then I can say I'm glad Nigeria is on a better step.
ReplyDeleteThis is a Great Job. Thanks for this! Now, its left for the rape victims to do their part
ReplyDeleteOrekelewa,
ReplyDeleteIt is actually humanly possible to have a differing opinion or make your views known without resorting to insults. Try it sometime,You might actually like it.
The inability to, really points to a marked emotional and mental immaturity.
Thanks Linda for rectifying the error.
@Anon 8.52pm.. LMFAO. I soooo agree with you. Infact, dipping them slowly into hot boiling tar(feet first) should be added to that very creative list of punishments! And as for the help line, thank goodness. Let's just hope it won't be perpetually unreachable!

ReplyDeleteThank you very much for this Minister of Youth. Now can we pass a bill jailing perpetrators for a "good amount" of time. Women abuse has got to stop in that country. Ridiculous what some women are going and have gone through. Please Mr Minister, look into the punishment for offenders. Thanks and may your good works continue
ReplyDeleteTHANK GOD FOR THIS AT LEAST THEY'RE TRYING . GOD BLESS NIGERIA AND HELP THEM AVOID SUCH CIRCUMSTANCES
ReplyDeletethis that the bast thay can do for this country ,there are othe things the fedral gov have to tolk about and not that....
ReplyDeleteLinda i can't find my comment after some update i can see. May be network problem from my end. Anyway this is my opinion.
ReplyDeleteThe number is ƒor complains perhaps from my own view and i believe it will work. Also women should be very careful of their movement and places they visit. They can visit this website(justyellfire.com). They have a lot educational info to prevent and defend yourself against rape and prey. Download the video which is free and learn a lot. The site is still alive.
i work with the telecomms company that provides these services, what we want to achieve is an easy to recall number. 080072732255 can actually be translated into (0-800 RAPECALL) it can be dialed via blackberry or normal telephones we used to, pls try educate a neighbor today and many thanks Linda for a great blog. 0800 72732255 = 0800 RAPECALL
ReplyDeleteBolaji Aabdullahi is not trying hard enough.
ReplyDeleteHe is not doing anything different from the clowns in previous regimes.
This is a cosmetic measure that will solve nothing.
Until there is a form of justice on that ABSU case,a definitive end that all eyes can see and hear. Until then nothing will change.
That case shook the cyber world and beyond like no other rape case ever has in this country (and believe me,rape is very rampant in Naija) and we will have lost a golden opportunity to make a point if we let that case to just die like that.
I expect Bolaji Abdullahi to pursue that case until light emerges out of the tunnel. We don't wantto hear that the girl was not interested in testifying. Mr. Abdullahi must use every means at his disposal as a govt official to bring those boys to justice and be shamed. That singular act will redefine rape in Nigeria like this toll free line never will.
Few months after, that case is dying a natural death. We must not let it die. Folks are still viewing that gross act on social media and those boys might have moved on to another victim and it may be your sister.
good starting point
ReplyDeleteThey shd hv made it a 2- or 3-digit number for easy dialling & recall. Anyway, they try, i hope nigerians will not misuse it by "flashing" or playing games!
ReplyDeletedis people should not get me angryooo, what av dey done about the abia rape so far and the new ever emerging rape cases and female sexual assault courtesy of FONE THIEFING! USELESS HELP LINE, LAWLESS COUNTRY. am out of here. mtshew...
ReplyDeleteIt is about time we start doing something about this rape things in Nigeria.
ReplyDeleteSee without you, it won't work. Yes i mean YOU! If you happen to notice any violent case, don't conceal it. Make That One Call. It can change a Life!
Beside am going to share it on my blogs...
My question is what does Neato and Kevin gotta do with this? what can they do? shldnt they have appointed women as well to encourage the girls? or men of high status that our youths look up to, to talk to our men about molesting women. hisssssssssssss
ReplyDeleteLinda, clap for yourself because your blog has really exposed a lot of the rape acts. Thank you and I pray that this new system will reach out to the rape victims and give them necessary referrals like mental and medical health. kudos to LIB blog for bringing this type of issues to the forefront.
