400L Lasu Student, Chinyere Ezeala, Found Dead in Lover's House in Ejigbo

A final year student of the Lagos State University, Ojo, Chinyere Ezeala, 27, has been found dead in her lover’s room at Ejigbo, Lagos, southwest Nigeria after a marathon sex.

The police at Ejigbo alleged that the 400-Level student was found dead on Friday on her lover’s bed at 36, Fayemi Street, Ejigbo, Lagos. She was found wearing a wrapper.

Her boyfriend, Ifeanyi Sunday, who works at the Apapa wharf allegedly reported her death to the police the following morning and was arrested.

Police sources at the station confirmed that the corpse had been taken to the Isolo General Hospital for autopsy.

“We cannot for now ascertain the cause of death. Until the autopsy report is out, nobody can say categorically what killed her. We have just arrested her boyfriend and investigation is going on. We cannot rely on what people are saying about the cause of death. It is only the autopsy report that can disclose the cause of death,” the investigating police officer told P.M.NEWS when asked to comment on the insinuations that she died during a marathon sex with her boyfriend.

The family of the deceased are, however, insisting that Ifeanyi must marry the deceased according to Igbo tradition and perform the necessary rites. They claimed that she died while he was having sex with her. They also accused the suspect of sleeping with her without paying her bride price to the family.
“He should marry her now that she is dead as tradition demands,” a man who identified himself as an uncle to the deceased told the police.

P.M.NEWS gathered at the residence of the suspect that the late Chinyere was a regular visitor to Ifeanyi’s home every weekend to spend days before leaving for school.

On the day of the incident, a neighbour who identified herself as Rose told P.M.NEWS that the late Chinyere visited and slept with Ifeanyi and was found dead the next day. “Ifeanyi went to the police station and reported what happened. He was arrested and brought to the house. The body was later taken to the hospital by the policemen,” she explained. When P M NEWS visited Ejigbo Police Station, the divisional police officer, DPO, CSP Benjamin Olanrewaju Adeola was not around to comment on the incident but sources at the station confirmed it.

  15. @ Anon 6.09 pm.. Please stop exhibiting your stupidity here. If you know nothing about something, all you need to do is ask questions. Yes, that is an Igbo custom and it is not based on money please. This lady died in the house of man that she was sleeping with, and he was not married to her. Do you know the stigma associated with that in the Igbo culture? The marrying of the corpse is only to make a "decent" woman out of the dead lady. That way, it can be said that she was married to the man. This custom is not meant to be a money making venture for the family but to wipe away the shame and stigma. Do I think it's necessary to marry a corpse? No, but that is the custom of the people and must be respected. By the way, I'm IGBO and proud of it and no matter how much you insult Igbos, the smallest of us will always be greater than you!

anonymous 6:09, i dont appreciate ur insulting ibo ppl, its not about the money, but its the culture, back in the day when things were decent, a girl shouldnt sleep in a man`s house, as far as he has not paid her brideprice that is "married her". so if a girl dies in a man`s house, it is required that he marries the corpse, it is a barbaric custom i agree, but that is no reason to insult ibos. The custom was formed to discourage illicit relationships, cos u know, men prefer not to buy the cow when they can get the milk free. i believe that in every culture there are some customs which are wrong and should be discouraged, its not peculiar with the ibos......and as i said b4, it has nothing to do with money...its custom. We should talk abt how to get rid of these customs , and not hurling insults at any ethnic group.......am sure u know, am igbo and proudly so......go get a life!!!!!!!!!!!

I am not igbo but I feel the comments of Anonymous @ 6.09 pm were ignorant and biased. Our (Nigerian Custom) makes sense in most cases, even if they seem barbaric. Let's focus on the morale of the custom; do right by a woman and her parents before enjoying the benefits of marriage.
May the Lord have mercy on us all, for all have sinned.

  25. LWKMD.... fuck around & when madam/mister medical examiner finish the so called autopsy, headline will read, " it is indeed confirmed, Chinyere went to glory after innumerable rough sex with mr. sunday, as that is the only conclusive evidence given the orange size vagina, traces of semen inside her cervix, and heart tissue ischemia secondary to overactivity of an already compensating heart"..Fucked to oblivion INDEED!...buhahahahahahah.
*God forgive me sha. may she RIP

There's been a lot with happening this xmas with people dying in their sleep. Please be prayerful. As for Mr. Ifeanyi, why didn't u marry her since? Anyways, it's up to him to make the decision.

  29. Well, I am speechless. But in all fairness the late girl deserves a true grieving from the guy, and I can only say if I am in the guy's shoe(God forbid) I will do it knowing I am paying my last respect to a girl who was there for me, offered her body and cooked my meals and washed my clothes and all. It is a sad situation but I think the guy should just pay this respect and honour her. If the girl were alive, she may or may not approve of it. Moreso, so as not make the parent push for manslaughter, he should just do it, worst case scenario, 2 months and it's over....I may be wrong, but I think it's ONLY FAIR to the parents. Do u know what it is to lose a daughter, that's someone's sweat and hard labour of sacrifices of money, time and hope of the family and pride of the family. Now I know in some places they even make you sleep with the corpse (I disapprove of this). If it gets to that point, guy try and make dem see reasons, both parties should reach a compromise.
Rest in Peace Chinyere. Take heart Ifeanyi. It is well.

  30. @Linda, i think the problem lately has been the herbs these women carry for sell on their head everywhere in Lagos these days. Those things are so cheap an quite potent. It can make you last for hours on your woman non-stop. i tried it two weeks ago and my sex life has never remained the same. We need to learn to do things in moderation or else more casualties.

  33. People always look for the slightest opportunity to insult the Igbos and I wonder what the gain is.

I certainly do not think it is necessary for the man to marry the dead but truth is that it is the culture of certain parts of the igboland and it is not for monetary gains! That the boyfriend reported himself doesn't exempt him from performing the rites....If he were from the same part of igbo as the late lady, he would already know that its something that needs to be done and his family would make arrangements to do it. Does this make the culture right? NO!

  43. l have seen something similar in the movies, but to be frank it is absurd. come to think of it, why would someone be mandate to be married to a corpse simply b'cos both of them indulged in a sinful and disgraceful act? l think both parties involved should seek an amicable way of settling the matter instead of making the issue a subject matter for the public.
    honestly speaking, it's quiet unfortunate.

What a pity!!! for the guy to report the case to the police,,, i dont think he has a hand in her death........dis tradition of marrying the dead is too harsh,,,,,the girl's family should not start blaming the guy now cos the premarital sex they engaged in was a mutual thing(at least they are both Igbo and they know what their tradition demands as regards marriage),,,its not as if she was forced......I pray the guy obtains God's mercy at dis time and may the girl's soul RIP......

  57. The way ibos in the east abuse Yoruba people hen? No be small thing. Anon that said Yoruba girls sleep around and call their boyfriend oko mi and ibos don't do that? Ok o siddon there. I know so many ibo girls that sleep with men they are not married to. Likewise so many Yoruba that don't sleep around. More ibo girls do abortion. So because they don't have a child, we think they are holy and pure?
As to this case, was she being forced to sleep with the man? She did it of her own will. And why should the family push for manslaughter? Is Nigeria a bush country? They will do autopsy and find out the cause of death. There's such a thing as accidental death.
Marry a dead person? Tufiakwa. What has the dead got to do with the living? There's this stupid entitlement syndrome that Nigerians sometimes have. He must marry her because he was sleeping with her. Next time, teach your daughter that she should respect herself and her family by not sleeping and living with a man unless he has paid her bride price.
