Court orders NDLEA to pay Baba Suwe N25million as damages

An Ikeja High Court in Lagos this morning ordered the National Drug Law Enforcement agency (NDLEA) to pay the sum of N25 million to Baba Suwe as damages for unlawfully detaining him for three weeks over drug trafficking allegations. And to also tender a public apology to him in two national dailies.

You think NDLEA will pay this money or it's play play? I don't recall Uzoma Okere collecting a dime of the 100million the courts awarded her last year.

  1. 25 million is still too small compared to the psychological trauma and ridicule he was subjected to.anyway Baba Suwe,25 million for 1 month in NDLEA custody ain't a bad deal either..

  8. If its really true the money is good enough,if we don't know but know it now that body scanners ha effect on the body.In developed country if your being scanned and nothing is found you have the right to sue them to court not to talk of staying days in detention. My own is that let them not kill him.Baba suwe story to me is a fairy tale.He had drugs, some people has been bribed and everything wiped of.Anyway he should also be careful about kidnappers.Word

  13. @ Atobatale stop being stupid and ignorant. I doubt you are an NDLEA officer to know exactly what happened so don't conclude anything. I honestly doubt NDLEA will taint their image this badly and publicise what they were not sure of.They thot they had a case, but they clearly made a mistake. A grave one at that. They SHOULD pay this man because no matter how they try to clear his name, there will be the likes of Atobatale who will forever link him to drugs. I used to ask myself why people make "akoba adaba, olorun maje a ri"(may God not let us be charged with a crime we didn't commit) a prayer point, now it makes a lot of sense. If you are charged with a crime that you honestly did not commit and it was the error of the arresting officer, you are tainted for life. Very sad. He has even aged. I suggest he move closer to God. That is the only One who can console him or make him genuinely happy again

  21. @Oluwashindara excellent point.. I don't know why we Nigerians always have to think that there is some back door being made everywhere.. The NDLEA made a big mistake and thats it, many organization both home and abroad make mistakes all the time and thats just the bottom line, They thought the saw something and they didn't.. The machine they are using is probably messed up.
Pay and say "our bad" and move on NDLEA!!

  22. this is crazy section 251 (1)(m) 1999 constitution gives the federal high court exclusive jurisdiction to deal with matters relation to drugs so how can a court in ikeja hear the case. besides how can they award cost was the judge sleeping? what was the NDLEA established for?

  23. @Oluwashindara, spot on!

  24. It is a Law Court that can pronounce him guilty or innocent after analysing available evidence. By the rule of law, he was detained longer that he should by the Law Enforcement bodies, for this he deserves to be compensated.
