“We don’t investigate rape cases based on what people put on twitter. When a crime is reported, the DPO must send detectives to investigate the scene of the crime. Up till now have you seen the victim? Have you seen the scene of crime? Have you seen the suspects? It is a very dangerous rumour that must be dismissed by all good meaning Abians and Nigerians” - Bala Hassan, Commissioner of police Abia State
What a shame! Not only have we sent the video to the authorities in Abia State, we've also sent a few leads to them...but nobody seems to be interested in doing anything about it...other than releasing press statements and talking bullshit! How can it be a rumour when there's a video? These people are making me so angry!
Haaaaaaaaaa!!! Linda!!!! I swear to God, I'm starting to hate this country!!! Thank God I don't live in that lawless, god-forsaken place!! I used to be one of those people that defended Nigeria no matter what, but now I'm ashamed to be called a Nigerian!!
Linda which leads? is it the names of the alleged rapist that were displayed on twitter? how did they get those names? the video showed no faces. its only the gal that can identify them. let the police investigate and stop accusing innocent people.
Sis Linda, There is basically little the police can do in this matter bcos the victim has refused to speak up and make herself available.Victimization and stigma is the major obstacle in this case bcos no man would like to marry a lady who has been brutally raped and recorded by 5 men in our Nigerian culture. Nobody has a magic wand to unearth the victim and her rapists. Only if and when the victim shows up can an effective hunting mission commence.
IT IS DEVASTATING TO KNOW THE POLICE ARE NOT SO BOTHERED ABOUT THIS "CASE". BUT WE HAVE TO LOOK AT IT FROM THEIR ANGLE, IT IS NOT A POLICE CASE, THE GIRL NEVER CAME FORWARD TO REPORT IT OR IDENTIFY HER RAPISTS, SO WHEN A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE OUT THERE FIGHTING FOR HER, WHERE IS SHE FIGHTING FOR HERSELF? THERE IS SO MUCH THE INTERNET, TWITTER AND BLOGS CAN DO...
Mr CP Bala Hassan, cover your bloody face with shame! How can u even dare to call this a rumour or "twitter" talk? Or are the rapists your sons? Let me ask you a question, So wat happens to this case if the victim is already dead as we speak? You don't know? Haven't you seen the video? Can't you work with that? Have you heard of the word "forensic investigation"?How you became a CP I will never understand! Nigerians are "protected" by a bunch of clowns to top to bottom..smh...Meggy
That what u hear from people that are clueless..Every person in position(govt, the vc,commissioner of police) that was been looked up to in Abia state has failed the poor girl as well as everyone of us ,all they av been doing has bn talking and talking that taking us nowhere they would av been beta off if they even choose to keep quiet quiet.God will comfort the poor girl wherever she might be on the surface of the earth and surely fight this battle for her.
this is where Nigerian women should take decisive action if i were you linda i would use my resources as a blogger to organise a protest march, demonstrations and sit-ins to demand something is done this is not only a shame to the nigerian government but also to the rest of the country because people in other parts of africa are fighting for their right and your government cant even protect 1 women from such a gruesome crime remember nigerian women today it was her tomorrow it might be you infact go th bbc, cnn, aljazeera...if u have to, this is getting too much

fair enough they have the video but in a country like nigeria where there are no dan database or pictorial database how will the police trace the identity of the girl?
what the man is making reference to about twitter is the fact that most people have made themselves judge jury and executioner not of the perpetuators but of the police ,the school authorities the governor ,his wife e.t.c people are already castigating and abusing the governor and the rest yet they are not proffering solutions.
we are all good at pointing fingers but none of us are ready to do anything, and that is the tragedy called nigeria...

I have always said our police should be the priority of our government. They are the saddest excuse for security ever. The number one problem in Nigeria isn't NEPA or whatever problems we have, it's that we are being policed by ignorant fools from top to bottom.
Linda as much as I sympathize with the poor gurl I've advised my friends that the only way to track these guys is to do an underground private investigation with all the leads available so that when we have enough evidence we may be able to use the law cos as it stands, the law on rape prosecution in nigeria is that the victim reports the incident at the earliest possible time so that the police commence investigations. However over the years we have found that these prosecutions are deadlocked because the victims in most cases refuse to testify for fear of being exposed to both public attention n cross-examination by lawyers. So I advice that we use this media I.e social networkin to see if we're able to track these guys. *first time comment(er)*
Na wa o. It is because of the incompetence and complacencyof the police that folks on Twitter have turned amateur Shelock Holmes, doing more harm than good. The governor had heard, no show. Police has heard, who sai. I think it is time we make enough noise for the president to hear. Which kain country be this one sef? Where people in positions of authority are not afraid to throw their duties in the gutter.
Sick to My Stomach just Sick! Please Let's set up this reward Fund as quickly as possible. Let us be the change we want. Money is an incredible motivator.
The VC doesn't believe it took place on his campus. The governor believes the VC. The police are sure it never even happened. None of these groups has investigated beyond the comfort of their offices...
Yet there is a real video. It's easy to identify these victims! Any normal university would have a database of students. They can cross check photos and try to identify the girl. Or they can try searching for law students in 400L bearing the name that was mentioned...
Let's say the rape never even happened. At least, as a decent society, we owe it to ourselves to prove that beyond reasonable doubt, not just sit in an office and decide that something could never have happened in your school or state. maybe they are so complacent because this is probably just one of the many similar cases that occur there.
Hey people.....we all need to move forward and stop making comments that wont help to curb this menace.I happened to watch the 10minutes clip and was able to arrive at some logical conclusions.I might be wrong but just my two cents.I understand the Igbo language and at some point d girl said "ha si na emerem ha gini?"meaning "what did they say I did to them? Also she repeatedly called on Uchenna to plead with his friends. With this we can all deduce that she's had an altercation with them previously and also she knows one of the rapists or more personally. So for all those who are activists and are passionate about putting a stop to this menace, try and trace the whereabouts of the girl and get her to give a statement that would be the basis of the investigations.I am in no way in support of the rapists but we need to start from the girl that was raped towards bringing the boys to book....As regards the Govt of Abia state n d Comm of Police, forget them all.Part of a failed state.
Where is the Victim, where are the parents/guardian of the victim. She or her lawyer has to report the incident before this whole rape case can be followed up, rape crime is a serious offense, the victim has to come forward for starters. You claimed to be raped and till date No one or lawyer is speaking out for the victim. Come forward and let the police help you get justice.
Linda sef What are you doing about it?? Abi your own is to be chatting and making noise!! I agree with the man abeg. Am sure you have heard this happend in Imo state
Exactly how did they get those names and which leads?? Even pictures are now circulating sef. How did they come up with these pics when the faces were not even seen. God help Nigeria
Anon 10:43, what are you talking about?? In the video, one of the boys mentioned his name and his department . Isn't that enough lead? Why aren't the police going on campus to ask the students of ABSU questions about the guys and the video?? They are sitting in their office, releasing useless statements and they expect us to keep quiet! How do you know the girl uses the internet?? She probably doesn't even know anything about all this! I don't blame the police. They probably raped one or two people before, so they don't see anything wrong in what those boys did. Smdh!!!!!!!!
but where is the victim?????????? even in America, the victim would have to come forward. Linda, look for the victim. get her to contact you secretly or something. without a victim there is no case.
People let's be realistic!! I see some sense in what the police is saying. If only the victim could come up and speak..it would make things way easier. Right now there's very little the police can do unless that girl - the victim herself speaks up..
Nigeria is a useless country i now know for sure. Like somebody said before i am not going to defend nigeria to my friends from other countries anymore as the country is a real big basket case. I will never travel to nigeria with my nigerian passport anymore no way. I will rather go and get a visa from nigerian embassy with my british passport. Why? godforbid some thing bad happend to me in nigeria my 'fathers land' i would be assured that there is one serious country some where which is not my 'fathers land'that will fight for me just because of their passport that i carry. It makes me sad that, that is the way it is . Any way this must not end here with their useless for show press releases. What are the so call high society women/girls doing about this rape in nigeria. Are they just high society women/girls for fashion, parties, and material things only and not for the upliftment and protection of other women and young girls in the society with whcih they live. what about them using their influence to do something about this case.
ARE YOU GUYS SURPRISED?? SOME OF THESE EVIL MEN ARE ALL GLORIFIED PREDATORS THEMSELVES WHO PREY ON THEIR SUBORDINATES AND OTHER WOMEN, AND AS SUCH COULD NOT EVEN BE BOTHERED OR LOSE ANY SLEEP OVER THIS MATTER!! ...A LOT OF THESE MEN HAVE VERY SORDID PASTS, AND AS SUCH THEIR CONSCIENCES HAVE BEEN SEARED WITH HOT IRON, AND THEY HAVE BEEN GIVEN OVER TO A REPROBATE MIND...WHAT KIND OF INVESTIGATION IS NEEDED FOR SOMETHING THAT WAS CLEARLY RECORDED AND VISIBLE IN THE CELL PHONE VIDEO....NIGERIA IS INCREASINGLY BECOMING A SHAMELESS COUNTRY, FILLED WITH PERVERTS WHO HAVE BEEN COMPLETELY SOLD OUT TO THE DEVIL... THEY SHOULD GO AND DO THEIR RESEARCH ABOUT SODOM AND GOMORRAH, BECAUSE THESE ATROCITIES ARE BEGINNING TO RISE TO EPIC PROPORTIONS!!! BUT WHAT THESE LUNATICS IN POWER FAIL TO FORGET IS THAT NO EVIL GOES UNPUNISHED WITHOUT RECOURSE!!....THE SOLUTION TO THIS MATTER IS TO PUT THESE CLOWNS ON FULL BLAST TO THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY...IT WILL PROBABLY HIT HOME IF THEIR DAUGHTERS AND WIVES ARE RAPED...AND WHAT MAKES IT SO PATHETIC IS THAT SOME OF THESE MEN WILL NOT EVEN GIVE A HOOT IF A FEMALE MEMBER OF THEIR FAMILY IS RAPED...WE LIVE IN A COUNTRY FILLED WITH PEDOPHILES, RAPISTS, AND SEXUAL PREDATORS...AND WHAT MAKES IT EVEN MORE NAUSEATING IS THAT SOME WOMEN ARE WILLING TO TURN THE OTHER WAY SO THAT THEY CAN BE IN GOOD STEAD WITH THEIR HUSBANDS..SUCH AS MADAM SO CALLED FIRST LADY...
WHEN THE WRATH OF GOD STARTS VISITING NOT ONLY THE PERPETRATORS BUT THOSE WHO HAVE THE POWER TO TAKE ACTION, AND HAVE REFUSED TO DO SO, THEY WILL BEGIN TO WONDER WHY THEY ARE SUBJECTED TO THEIR WOES..IT TAKES ONE INCIDENT LIKE THIS TO PUT AN END TO THESE KINDS OF EVIL..AND THIS INCIDENT HAS BECOME WAY BIGGER THAN THE ABIA STATE GOVERNMENT...
I DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO THE VIDEO, HOWEVER I HAVE CONTACTS WITH SOME HUMAN RIGHTS ORGANIZATIONS SUCH AS:

IT IS ON NOW!!! WE NIGERIANS ARE NOT QUITTERS AND CANNOT SIT BACK AND WATCH EVIL BEING PERPETRATED BLATANTLY....WE HAVE A SOLID AND KNOWLEDGEABLE YOUTH BASE THAT HAVE A VOICE AND WILL NEVER BE SILENCED!!!...AND GUESS WHAT ENOUGH IS ENOUGH...WHEN OUR SO CALLED ADMINISTRATORS ARE OPENLY DISGRACED FOR THE WORLD TO SEE..THEY WILL CERTAINLY TRY TO GET THEIR ACTS TOGETHER...THE MEDIA, AND TECHNOLOGY IS A POWERFUL TOOL THAT CAN BE EQUITABLY UTILIZED TO PROVIDE JUSTICE FOR THIS POOR GIRL..
I HAVE A WEALTH OF INFORMATION ABOUT MANY MORE HUMAN RIGHTS ORGANIZATIONS, AND ANYONE THAT HAS THE VIDEO SHOULD SEND IT TO THESE AGENCIES IMMEDIATELY!!!
I don't get it...Seriously Linda and all those getting super upset. WHAT DO YOU SUGGEST THE POLICE DO? go and arrest similar named students of the school whose faces were not clear on the tape? IF THIS GIRL does not come out to yell RAPE! not much can be done. Like I have suggested before, the only way to handle this case is by street justice(which I do not condone) or public disgrace to the perps. That is strip them naked and let them walk the streets of Abia while every Oby, Chichi and chinedu-dinma(that's a he-she for the confused ones) anyways they should parade those animals while everyone records, take pictures and throws(soft, sticky) things at them. That should serve them right.
There is no reason to be angry... The girl in the video has not been promised justice and secrecy... She is ashamed, no doubt. Something has to give here especially from the government
This happened in Imo people and these guys are not absu students including the girl! Linda how do you know they are absu students wen u heard d story r wAtched it abi u just concluded your own? I won't b surprised if most of these anonymous people will bring out the money when the chips r down. My heart goes out to the poor girl if this is real and pls send a txt to someone giving a lead on hw to capture these boys. Mo!
Okay now I am sick and tired of all what police, ABSU and almost everyone has to say!
The raped girl in question is alive!!! Why is she NOT talking?? The guys who molested her were NOT masked!!! She was conscious whilst they molested her and from what I've read so far knows at least one of them! So why is she keeping silent?!
I'm guessing they are cult boys and she is scared for the lives of her family even if she can be kept safe! I can only advise her to speak so that these people can be brought to justice and for the state govt to offer strong security to her and her family.
Linda, which leads?...i can equally identify one of the rapist as Michael Johnson....The point here is the victim has kept quiet and there is nothing much the police can do. Even in advanced Nations of the world, the said video CANNOT convict anybody if the girl does not come forward and identify anyone or help the police...let us think people
All u saying there is no case cos the victim hasnt come forward, just take 2minutes behind ur crappy computers and put urself in her shoes,'if u were brutally violated by 5 animals, would u stroll into the nearest police staion to say 'hey, i have been raped''? She is hiding. If the police will do what a normal police force should do - investigate - they can unearth the perpertrators of this babaric act. But of course, they are incompetent and are waiting for d victim to do their jobs for them. NONSENSE
I believe the people saying that the girl should come forward are the male folk. The trauma and stigma of such an experience will make her stay silent. Also, what security measures have been put in place to protect this girl? For those saying that people should put up reward money, the 200k reward that has been promised to whoever gives information leading to the capture of these guys was donated by Nigerians like you and me. Unfortunately, the job of the police is being done by civilians. This man's statements make me sick. What's the rumor? Evidence has been given to you and u call it a rumor. Only in this country...smh
Linda, I jut read Abike Dabiri-Erewa's statement on one of the related posts in this blog.I have a simple advice for her. Instead of raising this on the floor of the house(or in addition to that) where we all know nothing good comes out of, she should proceed to all the major cities in the east (Aba,Umuahia,Enugu,Owerri,Nsukka and Oko),hold press conferences broadcast on local radio with proper interpretation in local alnguages and repeat the same things she said in that press release of hers. In addition, promise the girl a rehabilitation program overseas.I am convinced the girl will be persuaded to come out. All this internet talk will not yield much.I doubt the girl is online, from the picture those of you who have seen the video paint. We need to go to the grassroots.Internet is too elitist in this case. Remember, without the girl, the case is dead.
I dont comment on blogs but Guys common. I have been so upset about this whole rape issue and crying blue murder. I have cursed the days of the Abia state governor and first lady. Today i saw the suppose rape video on You tube and read the comments and since then i have been asking myself and ppl via my network questions. Are we sure this is real? and not people trying to use social network to create confusion. Who has seen the actual video? Does the lady not have friends who can on her behalf identify the victims or at least reach out to advocates like Linda. The Police are actually helpless in this case, if the evidence they have is a blur video and you want them to arrest the guys whose names were published based on what? If the real video has been given to the police, please disregard all i have written but if not lets provide the evidence and stop crying wolf. The western countries we are all talking about usually require a victim to come forward to provide information that the event occurred and other vital information. Dont let us keep cursing our country, we dont have any other country.
My apartment was attacked by gang rapists last week, we went to the police to report, fine, they made some arrests, but did they go check the crime scene? what more prove do they want or do they think someone just decided to put up 'porn'? they had better get in on this case or its their daughters' future at stake here too. hope they realize that. we are still on our own case. i hope justice is served.
What do u expect when "dondis" are the ones in power. The police will always c white and call it black. im sure they'll say the video is a picture that moves and was photoshopped. fools!
Thank you oh, hater!! Thank you! People forget that it's not everyone that owns a laptop!! How do you know that she knows about all these? In a country like Nigeria, you think if this girl walks to a police station to report being raped, you think they wouldn't blame her for it?? You guys, pls reasonable and put yourself in that girl's shoes.
@ kelly ur soo rite.... if only the victim can surface and report dis herself...i dont think much can be done..... Its about time pple learn to speak up on such cases..... so many women hav experienced dis but the fear of stigmatization wont let dem speak up!!! so sad...
Just on Monday last week, a Lagos lawyer, Mr. Isa Alade, who had gone to the Ajegunle police station in Ajeromi-Ifelodun area of Lagos to bail a 13 year old girl (who had been molested but ended up being detained) witnessed a more bizarre drama than the one which took him to the station. A six year old girl had been raped and her parents brought her to the station to report to a woman police officer. Let’s take the story from Alade: “I walked in. I didn’t know anything about it. I was there for a different matter. There were two people with me and there were guys who were there also, on different matters. So, all of us were waiting for this woman who was interrogating the six year old girl. Ordinarily if you want to ask a six year old girl questions like that, you should ask us all to go out. She didn’t. We were all there. This was 10 pm. The officer interrogating her was sitting down. The girl was made to stand. The officer was asking very stupid questions. The mother was there throughout but the dad stepped out. The officer asked the girl if she enjoyed it (sexual act). She asked the girl why she didn’t scream when the man asked her to remove her pant. The girl was just a primary one pupil! When the girl admitted collecting N20 from her molester, the officer said to the girl ‘And you collected it? Are you hungry?’ I thought to myself, ‘Is this woman mad?’”
Abia state is a cursed state i tell u.. Wat more do we expect the governor, wife and others to say in a cursed state like that which they are part of the cursed pple.. God help us
Even if the girl has not come forward, these media statements are not encouraging her to in any way. The fact that she has not come forward has now become an accusation. Instead of encouraging her to come forward and that they are prepared to help, they are almost sneering at the victim. I'm so saddened by Nigeria, God help us.
I am not surprised at the comment of the CP of Abia State, Nigeria police cannot claim to be innocent of such act as some of their officers have been reported in d time past to be involved in such shameful act with women suspects in their custody without any investigation carried out or punishment meted out to any such erring officer. Nigerian police may not like to get involved in any case that will not yield any monetary dividend to their pockets. What a shame of a nation.
This story of rape, has gone too far. Let the lady involved, file an official report. The video might be a porn movie as far as the police is concerned. these guys have violated womanhood, and so have invoked the curse women both on earth and in heaven. But she needs to go the extra mile by making sure they are punished. For all we know she might not want to fight them. (Though i wish she does and let justice prevail)
For those saying nothing can be done, what are we asking for? Investigation! Not prosecution, not conviction. For all the concern people have been voicing, the police and university authorities owe the people that much at least. People are worried and anxious! At worst they find out it was a Porn film, at best they find a possible victim and group of dangerous rapists! Its really very callous and insensitive of them to brush it aside as if we are just on a stupid with hunt! Those that are calling for the victim to come out, is it in this hostile, unfriendly atmosphere you want her to crawl into? Someone who is already traumatized, physically and mentally damaged! Come on people, put yourselves in her shoes, not an easy feat for anyone in her position. There is no excuse for the comments coming from the police, ABSU and the governor, the populace look to them for protection, instead of being busy denying that it didn't happen, they should be busy telling us how their investigation was conducted and how they came to their conclusion! Are our children safe? I don't think so. Rape is extremely common in Universities, most often kept quiet because of the stigma attached to the victim. This is an opportunity for all university authorities to try and stamp out this terrible crime done to young girls! Let's stop living in denial and rise up and SAY NO TO RAPE AND VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN!!
Have they looked for the girl? What if the dudes kidnapped her to keep her silent? what if they have killed her? what if she committed suicide? what if she has run mad and is roaming the streets?
You are all saying does she not have family...how many of your parents are internet savy?how many check out blogs?
Abeg the police should do their job....part of their job includes finding the babe......but of course this is too much to ask, wayyyyy over their heads since the only training they have received is on the art of collecting egunje....pssst
@ Buzzer, exactly my point! So if the police does not see the victim, they can't investigate? Very funny! So how do the police in the western countries find culprits even after the victims have been killed? Magic wand? Lol...@Bucurious, u r obviously missing the point here, we are not talking about the kind of punishment those rapists deserve right now, we are talking about how to find them and we want the police to do their job rather than wait for the victim to do it for them, okay?....Meggy
The fact that no-one in Abia is interested in investigating tells you that these boys are connected. The university, police, state govt- keeping quiet....
The fact that, our police or system is in decadence, does not mean we should be far from the fact that; The police has no bonified evidence to press-on this allegation cos, the said victim is obscure. That, police men are not "spirits" they need info.from us to succeed. That, some despirate politicians could also fabricate & use this against the govt. THE ONLY SOLUTION, IS 4 THE GIRL TO LAY HER COMPLAINS B4 THE POLICE.SHE WILL BE VEIL & PROTECTED BY THE POLICE, IN REGARD TO HER DESIRE!!!
This will definitely qualify as the most irresponsible statement ever issued by a law enforcement officer. The police DO NOT investigate based on what is posted on twitter? Ok! Tomorrow, if Boko haram announces on twitter that it is going to blow up Aso Rock the next day, i will equally expect them to fold their arms and say, "sebi na twitter". There has been video evidence of a crime for about a month and the proper thing for them to do is to wait until somebody comes to report at the police station? SMH!
Let me address those who suppose the police are "helpless" in this case because they don't have leads or nobody has come forward. First it is the responsibility of the police to look for leads, NOT wait until someone comes to tell you this is the venue of the crime, this is the villain, this is the victim. There are three clear starting points for the police in this case - One is the video, second are the names and third is the alleged location. Even if the victim hasn't come out, you start with a well defined community - ABSU. You do undercover work with names, particularly names like Zaki, which may not be so common. If i find 30 Zakis (whether real name or nickname) and invite them for questioning, i try to match voice with what i have in the audio of the video. Any Zaki that doesn't turn up should have a record with the school. Whatever the case may be, there should be an attempt at a proper investigation before we begin to dismiss the case. So far there is evidence of a crime that has come to their knowledge, the police should start investigation irrespective of whether anybody came to report to them or not.
Anon 7:36Pm, dats a gud question! Pls all of u saying that the police cannot investigate without the victim, pls answer anon 7:36pm's question....Meggy
why r people so surprised about the comment of the police?!! Na today? they probably have been bribed with twenty naira each to keep their mouths shut.
This is very sad. I pity this lady. What is happening in our country shows that our leaders has failed us and our parents has also failed to play their roles. The authority should get those involved and take a decisive action.

So I advice that we use this media I.e social networkin to see if we're able to track these guys. *first time comment(er)*
ReplyDeleteNa wa o.
ReplyDeleteSick to My Stomach just Sick!
ReplyDeletePlease Let's set up this reward Fund as quickly as possible. Let us be the change we want. Money is an incredible motivator.
The VC doesn't believe it took place on his campus. The governor believes the VC. The police are sure it never even happened. None of these groups has investigated beyond the comfort of their offices...
ReplyDeleteYet there is a real video.
ReplyDeleteWhere is the Victim, where are the parents/guardian of the victim. She or her lawyer has to report the incident before this whole rape case can be followed up, rape crime is a serious offense, the victim has to come forward for starters. You claimed to be raped and till date No one or lawyer is speaking out for the victim. Come forward and let the police help you get justice.
ReplyDeleteLinda sef What are you doing about it?? Abi your own is to be chatting and making noise!! I agree with the man abeg. Am sure you have heard this happend in Imo state
ReplyDeleteExactly how did they get those names and which leads?? Even pictures are now circulating sef. How did they come up with these pics when the faces were not even seen. God help Nigeria
ReplyDeleteAnon 10:43, what are you talking about?? In the video, one of the boys mentioned his name and his department . Isn't that enough lead? Why aren't the police going on campus to ask the students of ABSU questions about the guys and the video?? They are sitting in their office, releasing useless statements and they expect us to keep quiet! How do you know the girl uses the internet?? She probably doesn't even know anything about all this! I don't blame the police. They probably raped one or two people before, so they don't see anything wrong in what those boys did. Smdh!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteLiz
1976ad so now its a porn tape. Joker!!!!
ReplyDeletebut where is the victim?????????? even in America, the victim would have to come forward. Linda, look for the victim. get her to contact you secretly or something. without a victim there is no case.
ReplyDeletePeople let's be realistic!! I see some sense in what the police is saying. If only the victim could come up and speak..it would make things way easier. Right now there's very little the police can do unless that girl - the victim herself speaks up..
ReplyDeleteNigeria is a useless country i now know for sure.
ReplyDeleteARE YOU GUYS SURPRISED??
ReplyDeleteBUT WHAT THESE LUNATICS IN POWER FAIL TO FORGET IS THAT NO EVIL GOES UNPUNISHED WITHOUT RECOURSE!!....THE SOLUTION TO THIS MATTER IS TO PUT THESE CLOWNS ON FULL BLAST TO THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY...IT WILL PROBABLY HIT HOME IF THEIR DAUGHTERS AND WIVES ARE RAPED...AND WHAT MAKES IT SO PATHETIC IS THAT SOME OF THESE MEN WILL NOT EVEN GIVE A HOOT IF A FEMALE MEMBER OF THEIR FAMILY IS RAPED...WE LIVE IN A COUNTRY FILLED WITH PEDOPHILES, RAPISTS, AND SEXUAL PREDATORS...AND WHAT MAKES IT EVEN MORE NAUSEATING IS THAT SOME WOMEN ARE WILLING TO TURN THE OTHER WAY SO THAT THEY CAN BE IN GOOD STEAD WITH THEIR HUSBANDS..SUCH AS MADAM SO CALLED FIRST LADY...

I HAVE A WEALTH OF INFORMATION ABOUT MANY MORE HUMAN RIGHTS ORGANIZATIONS, AND ANYONE THAT HAS THE VIDEO SHOULD SEND IT TO THESE AGENCIES IMMEDIATELY!!!
ewo!!! wow..wow..ewo..
ReplyDeleteNigeria we hail thee..
hmm..
Only in your country Naija
@ Anon 10:58- right on spot! We need less of emotions and more of strategies to help right now. LORD please have mercy.
ReplyDeleteI don't get it...Seriously Linda and all those getting super upset.
ReplyDeleteThere are only a handful of countries in the world where crimes against women are treated seriously.
ReplyDeleteWhere's the Society for Nigerian Women when you need them??
ReplyDeleteThey could get involve in Mercy Johnson's private matter (that didn't convern them)..., but not this one??
Nonsense bunch of peeps.
There is no reason to be angry... The girl in the video has not been promised justice and secrecy... She is ashamed, no doubt. Something has to give here especially from the government
ReplyDeleteOnly in Nigeria!
ReplyDeleteClueless Man.......IGNORAMUS............I so fuckin hate this pple.Clueless Man.......IGNORAMUS............I so fuckin hate this pple.
ReplyDeleteThis happened in Imo people and these guys are not absu students including the girl! Mo!
ReplyDeleteOkay now I am sick and tired of all what police, ABSU and almost everyone has to say!
ReplyDeleteThe raped girl in question is alive!!!
I can only advise her to speak so that these people can be brought to justice and for the state govt to offer strong security to her and her family.
people shouldnt just criticize the police like that. where do u expect them to start from when the victim would not show up.
ReplyDeleteLinda, which leads?...i can equally identify one of the rapist as Michael Johnson....The point here is the victim has kept quiet and there is nothing much the police can do. Even in advanced Nations of the world, the said video CANNOT convict anybody if the girl does not come forward and identify anyone or help the police...let us think people
ReplyDeleteif only the girl would come out without them putting her in the public glare.
ReplyDeleteAll u saying there is no case cos the victim hasnt come forward, just take 2minutes behind ur crappy computers and put urself in her shoes,'if u were brutally violated by 5 animals, would u stroll into the nearest police staion to say 'hey, i have been raped''?
ReplyDeleteShe is hiding.
If the police will do what a normal police force should do - investigate - they can unearth the perpertrators of this babaric act.
But of course, they are incompetent and are waiting for d victim to do their jobs for them. NONSENSE
welcome to NIGERIA!!!
ReplyDeleteI believe the people saying that the girl should come forward are the male folk.
ReplyDeleteDOES THIS GAL HAVE ACCESS TO AN INTERNET CONNECTION?
ReplyDeleteI DON'T THINK SO..IF NOT....
Linda,
ReplyDeleteI jut read Abike Dabiri-Erewa's statement on one of the related posts in this blog.I have a simple advice for her.
ReplyDeleteThe Police are actually helpless in this case, if the evidence they have is a blur video and you want them to arrest the guys whose names were published based on what?
ReplyDeleteWhat do u expect when "dondis" are the ones in power. The police will always c white and call it black. im sure they'll say the video is a picture that moves and was photoshopped. fools!
ReplyDeleteThank you oh, hater!! Thank you! People forget that it's not everyone that owns a laptop!! How do you know that she knows about all these? In a country like Nigeria, you think if this girl walks to a police station to report being raped, you think they wouldn't blame her for it?? You guys, pls reasonable and put yourself in that girl's shoes.
ReplyDeleteLiz
@ kelly ur soo rite.... if only the victim can surface and report dis herself...i dont think much can be done..... Its about time pple learn to speak up on such cases..... so many women hav experienced dis but the fear of stigmatization wont let dem speak up!!! so sad...
ReplyDeleteJust on Monday last week, a Lagos lawyer, Mr.
ReplyDeleteAbia state is a cursed state i tell u.. Wat more do we expect the governor, wife and others to say in a cursed state like that which they are part of the cursed pple.. God help us
ReplyDeleteEven if the girl has not come forward, these media statements are not encouraging her to in any way. The fact that she has not come forward has now become an accusation. Instead of encouraging her to come forward and that they are prepared to help, they are almost sneering at the victim. I'm so saddened by Nigeria, God help us.
ReplyDeleteI am not surprised at the comment of the CP of Abia State, Nigeria police cannot claim to be innocent of such act as some of their officers have been reported in d time past to be involved in such shameful act with women suspects in their custody without any investigation carried out or punishment meted out to any such erring officer. Nigerian police may not like to get involved in any case that will not yield any monetary dividend to their pockets. What a shame of a nation.
ReplyDeleteThis story of rape, has gone too far.
ReplyDeleteFor those saying nothing can be done, what are we asking for? Investigation! Not prosecution, not conviction. For all the concern people have been voicing, the police and university authorities owe the people that much at least. People are worried and anxious! At worst they find out it was a Porn film, at best they find a possible victim and group of dangerous rapists!
ReplyDeleteIts really very callous and insensitive of them to brush it aside as if we are just on a stupid with hunt!
Maybe they think it is a Nollywood movie...
ReplyDeleteHave they looked for the girl?
ReplyDeleteThe fact that no-one in Abia is interested in investigating tells you that these boys are connected. The university, police, state govt- keeping quiet....
ReplyDeleteThe fact that, our police or system is in decadence, does not mean we should be far from the fact that; The police has no bonified evidence to press-on this allegation cos, the said victim is obscure. That, police men are not "spirits" they need info.from us to succeed. That, some despirate politicians could also fabricate & use this against the govt.
ReplyDeleteTHE ONLY SOLUTION, IS 4 THE GIRL TO LAY HER COMPLAINS B4 THE POLICE.SHE WILL BE VEIL & PROTECTED BY THE POLICE, IN REGARD TO HER DESIRE!!!
what if the girl is dead?
ReplyDeleteThis will definitely qualify as the most irresponsible statement ever issued by a law enforcement officer. SMH!
ReplyDeleteLet me address those who suppose the police are "helpless" in this case because they don't have leads or nobody has come forward.
ReplyDeleteAnon 7:36Pm, dats a gud question! Pls all of u saying that the police cannot investigate without the victim, pls answer anon 7:36pm's question....Meggy
ReplyDeletewhy r people so surprised about the comment of the police?!! Na today? they probably have been bribed with twenty naira each to keep their mouths shut.
ReplyDeleteWhat is so sad is that we would never have heard of this, if there was no video.
ReplyDeleteIf the girl had even gone to police saying she was gang raped nothing would have been done. That would be the end of it.
I cry for that country. Every leader and politician needs to be shot in front of a firing squad. End of story.
This is very sad. I pity this lady. What is happening in our country shows that our leaders has failed us and our parents has also failed to play their roles. The authority should get those involved and take a decisive action.
ReplyDelete
