Nollywood producer Donald Okoli dies

Another death in Nollywood. Top writer and producer, Donald Okoli has passed away. The producer, who was in his forties, died this morning...in his sleep.

Before his death, he'd produced several movies, including “Family Battle” which won an AMAA Award. May his soul rest in peace...amen!

A few months ago someone I know also died in his sleep. He was 41. How do you die in your sleep? Can anyone explain what causes death while sleeping?

  1. Heart attack, blood clots in the lungs or brain, bleeding in the brain are just one of the few things that cause death while sleeping

  2. Such a sad news. May God comfort his family. Dying in the sleep most times may be as a result of cardiac arrest, but who knows.....

  4. i suppose wat they mean is that he slept and since he didnt wake up, they refer to it as dying in ones sleep. it doesnt necessarily mean dat when he died, he was asleep. he might have been awake just maybe no one was there. a heart failure could be one of such causes

  8. It is only a reminder for us all that this life is only a means to a greater glory with God. So we should live today as though there would be no tomorrow.

  9. Linda, please I beg you to delete the comment of "September 23, 2011 7:25 PM". How can a human being say such? Is that a joke or a curse. I'm intact highly disappointed and disgusted that you even had the audacity to post such rubbish. I wonder if the person meant it as a joke, I don't take it as that at all. It is extremely distasteful, ridiculous, cold and evil. "So, who's next" KMT. God forbid bad thing

  13. This that can kill people in their sleep

    1. Heart attack
    2. Stroke
    3. Brain aneurysm

Mostly things that have to do with the heart and the brain.

People in Nigeria should check their blood pressure and cholesterol intake. People in Nigeria walk around with blood pressures in the high 200's and blame it all on stress, till they drop and die and we blame it all on some jazz. I know this. Did a medical mission in Nigeria and people walked in and I couldn't measure their blood pressure as in was off the chart.

I know we are all on going to die one day, but lets maximize our lives by taking care of it. Eat healthy, exercise, know your family history and what you are predisposed to getting and get checked. Nigerians are predisposed to getting hypertension

    Have an awesome weekend people.

May we all grow old and grey

  14. Cause could be something or nothing. By that I mean it could be something like a heart attack, an embolism and sleep apnoea. He may have simply stopped breathing. An autopsy should determine cause of death.

    RIP Mr Okoli.

  19. hmmm may he RIP. I HOPE all those who criticised the few who ran to see the face of God at redeemed church a couple weeks back now feel stupid. these nollywooders need to move closer to God. I wonder if the bigger names lie genny, omotola, psquare dbanj etc also went for prayers against early death?

  21. The number of untimely deaths from Nollywood is alarming and it calls for their stake holders and members to seek the face of God personally and collectively. For me , it becomes questionable in an industry where almost everyone can do anything to break even. I only hope there is not a cold war going on within Nollywood. The number of untimely deaths from Nollywood is alarming and it calls for their stake holders and members to seek the face of God personally and collectively.
