Let Nigerians Carry Arms, Pastor Oritsejafor Tells Jonathan

The National president of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, has called on President Goodluck Jonathan to allow Nigerians to carry arms to defend themselves against the insecurities in Nigeria. The killings in Jos, the kidnappings, the robberies, bomb threats etc...

Oritsejafor stated that if the government could no longer guarantee the safety of lives and property of Nigerians, then the National Assembly should immediately enact a law to make every Nigerian to carry arms for self protection.
Will carrying arms make things better or make it worse? Please share your thoughts..

  3. It will make things worse..i mean WORSE. If everyone is allowed to carry arms..Armed robbers/hired killers will then be able to carry their weapons without any fear..We won't know who is who again ..abeg o..that's a very terrible advise and knowing Nigerians we will take advantage of it....

  5. firstly, i don't believe he said so. but speaking as a matter of fact, it will only worsen the matter. may God help us in 9ja.

  6. its very unfortunate indeed, for someone this big to openly approve of potential violence, when we are looking for a way to reduce the level we have @ d moment in the country. this isn't the first time he is saying something like this. he should please watch what he says and use his position to promote peace & unity, or HOLD HIS PEACE!

  10. Now. Most countries dat have this law in place, has an incredible working law system wiv Police not afraid to do their jobs and not ruled entirely by their selfish interests and corruption. They have technology in place to do their best in checkmating crime.( @ least from what i have seen in deir movies o). We don't have that. We are not close to having dat. We might never even have that! Hell! We re not even close to producing movies like dey do. Now this man comes here to say this?. Is this not a clear case dat we are from it? With our primitive thinking.

  13. The MAJOR problem in Nigeria is we all live indenial, spiritual ignorance/ bondage and are very gullible (just think of the phone number causing death thing which most nigerians believed). Why should one set of humans have monopoly over weaponry? Since Jona and his boys appear not to know what they are doing, people have a right to protect themselves. Oritsejafor is one pastor I respect cos he is realistic. There are issues that are dealt with in the physical not spiritual. Kidnappers will think twice when they realise the person of interest could be armed. This is the ony viable option if the govt will continue to protect criminals and their sponsors. Until a loved one of yours has been hurt or killed, what he said wont make sense. Carry on jare, pastor. eh go beta for you for speaking facts.

  14. Good idea. Afterall people carry guns in the US and most Nigerians including those saying the pastor is not sensible will do anything to live in the US!

  15. i have always said it....anybody who thinks nigeria would be good is fooling himself......

    federal government protect you......sorry guys

    keep dreaming

  16. Lets think about this.
If a potential armed robber knows that I might be armed, and everyone else in my car that he wants to jack, or my home that he plans to rob, would he still go ahead and look for my trouble? I think not.
Even the police will think twice about harassing you if they know that people are watching them and those people may carry guns.

  17. Shoooooo na which kin pastor bi dis biko?? I thought the bible said to love one another AND to turn the other cheek. What gboko harma are doing is fine but he should not be advocating for individuals to carry weapons as thats disaster waiting to happen

    ReplyDelete
  18. If a pastor can give this kind of advice, then the world is already at its end. Definitely, carrying arms will aggravate the situation. People will just start shooting other people over nothing. The idea of everyone carrying a gun is not the solution to the problem.

    ReplyDelete
  19. i think he is only trying to restate the chaos which Nigeria is in currently with their level of insecurity. i hope he doesn't mean what he said....

    ReplyDelete
  20. I guess pastor Oritsejafor is sarcastic. I am sure he meant this so that the Government can look into the safety of its citizens. Its been months and months and nothing has changed in Jos, Also boko haram threats bombs and everyone is scared so obviously if the federal government cant do anything then we should be able to protect ourselves. Like i initially said, he probably said it sarcastically to make the federal goverment act fast rather than sitting down and looting treasury

  21. F what any body says. No body said anything when all this mallams promised hell before election, and they are doing it. someone has to stand up to them.

    ReplyDelete
  22. i really dont see anything wrong with what he's said.People just kill and maim innocent and defenceless civilians at will.if everyone was armed, before one fool comes to machete someone, he would think twice.Afterall, registered arms are legal in many countries.
A particular sect or religion cant keep killing people at will.He meant for protection .Desprate situations call for desperate measures.

  23. God help this man. how can u suggest such in a country like nigeria. this would increase the crime rate. abeg o

  25. I soo wish that all the people that are against citizens arming themselves do not in any way experience the brutality of the so-called "oles" and "hired assassins". I am woman who is a gun packing sharp shooter - so is my husband who by the way is a pastor and so are all our 7 children. Our last kid is a 5 year old kid and please you need to think real hard if you think you can engage this wonderful child of God in any gun fiasco. Why would people sit and wait for some moron to intrude into their lives and wipe away what they spent decades to hone? I bet the people wey dey talk say the man of God is wrong will not hesitate to comot for sunday service, then go "babalawo" place make the "babalawo" helep them "yamutu" somebody. If una like make una siddon dey wait make some idiot come wipe away una entire family in an instant, na una shalankwala be that.....as for me and my household, we are a gun packing, ready for battle family.

  28. Of course Nigerians should be allowed to bear arms. Why not if not? Criminals do already, why not let regular folks do so as well.

  35. Nigeria citizens to carry ARMS? In less than 3hours All Nigerians will be dead!

    ReplyDelete
  36. This can be true oh! First the arms should be share among the Calabars and other states, we the Ibos should be the last to have it! Or else this Biafra will be achieved now!

    ReplyDelete
  37. No this will not solve any of them Nigeria problem, rather it will only worsen the case.

    ReplyDelete
  38. @ anonymous 4.05 pm, yes people carry guns in the US but how has that helped?!!! 40 people were shot in my area two weeks ago(NYC) also, if you recall the congress woman that was shut a while ago, she is an excellent shooter and has guns, but how was she able to defend herself at the time? It's just not the solution, period!

  39. Oga Pastor....this ur suggestion if you actually did is a good one....all u boko boko and ur brothers, stay clear even before the arms are signed into law...no jokes....Lambart

  44. The statement was obviously made in SARCASM. Meaning SINCE THE PROTECTION OF LIVES AND PROPERTIES CAN'T BE ENTRUSTED IN THE HANDS OF THOSE WE ELECTED INTO POWER,then we can as we take it upon ourselves and DO It OURSELVES.

Meaning if we'll keep being attacked and maimed without Police intervetion,i can as well have me a gun. Atleast i won't be caught by surprise. Yes yes yes, "a Pastor for that matter" FOOLS!!! Its just like saying, why dial 911 if you're in trouble (in a situation yous could've finshed up and called the police to come take the corpse and investigate) #shikena...sidon there they jonze in our government wey just wan chop money.

Save your bullshit on your memory card while the Politicians buy houses on I DON'T GIVE A FUCK AVENUE *in Lil Wayne's voce*

  45. YOu r so stupid and spineless, you will all die in fear from area boyz and hot headed boko haram shit! can a common criminal afford to buy more clips than you all, this is the only way robbers and hoodlums will start to respect themselves.

Some years ago, my brother was attacked by area boys by the US high commission with knives, he had a little .38 caliber my dad left after he passed. He ended up collecting the area boyz money and asked them to run...Isn`t that the only way we can stop the crap in Nija....mcheeew

  47. This is supposedly a man of GOD who should be preaching peace advising that arms should be legalized. Would it reduce violence or escalate it. Sometimes I wonder what kind of religious leaders we have these days. Clearly shows the end times.

    ReplyDelete
  48. This is yet another indictment on the government of the day. We have provided our water, power, road and security, what stops the government from legalizing it.

Since a lot of you are against the pastor's comment, how come there is so much arm in circulation even without the law to back it up? We must learn to analyze issues critically, not emotionally.

    ReplyDelete
  49. The idea is smhow good bt it doesnt prevent Boko Haram from bombing buildings.Rather it can only reduce d issue of robbery nd kidnapping.Pastor....pastor...,e be like say u dey carry gun dey untop pulpit were u dey preach.Church members beware oh no misbehave oooh.

  50. let us tell our self the truth our country need to divide Hawusa need shalia government Yoroba need communist government Igbo need democracy. so what are we waiting let every tribe go and practice what they believe on.

    ReplyDelete
  51. that would just make the whole situation worse

    ReplyDelete
  52. It is only people affected that feels the pain, people that are not affected don't feel anything, they only help in spreading the news. I hope u know that all abokis wherever they are armed themselves with knives and so on.
If u wake up the following morning and find your neighbour killed, u will know there is need to arm yourself.
What prompted the man of God to say this, is beacause he has being visiting people that are affected and witnessing the pain people(Christians) are going through in JOS(their homeland. You can try and visit one of those places, see the remains of babies fried in hot oil, adults butchered and so on, then u will know their is no peace in this country we are just pretending, just pray that the stupid act of killing does not get to your doorstep. For how many years now, the government has not been able to provide security in Jos.

    ReplyDelete
  53. any one who said Nigeria did not need gun that is a killer and next attack will affect him or her because such person is behind all this Nigeria that is why don't want others to go on gun and they don't want the country to divide.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Oritsejafor is not an angel, so might he might not translate to your definitaion of a perfect leader.
The question is directed to the president who did not provide enough security to the masses but was able to quickly bring in the Isrealis security to protect himself because of boko haram.the fulanis and northern moslems have being killing Jos indigenes every month sine the begining of this year. Please let Jonathan respond to the statement."Let Nigerians carry arms if our government cannot provide security" if the goverment cannot provide enough security, they should address the issue of indigenes in Jos, why are intruders and wanderers killing indigenes, mark the boundary, i dont believe we are one Nigeria.

    ReplyDelete
  55. You don't have to abuse the man, why calling him names. u dont know the root of all this. If only you know the northern hidden agender and the consipiracy of our leaders not to provide appropriate security, u will knot blame the man for confronting our government with such statement/question.
wait the boko haram land lagos, u will know whether to arm yourself or not.

    ReplyDelete
  56. it,s good to legalise it,but looking at the economic conditns of Nigeria,i think there,ll be high rate of robbery and insecurity.it,s not for a place like Niger where there,s high rate of unemplymnt and frustratn, even a small bby can easily pick a gun and shoot his prnt.

    ReplyDelete
  57. this i would say is a "tongue in cheek" statement that the Government has failed to provide security for Nigerians. U guys screaming blue murder need to imagine ur loved ones been raped and hacked down by fulani herdsmen #joskillingsonmymind

Now see, weneva Pastor Ayo says tins we all agree wit, NO ONE posts it on a blog...LIFE IS INDEED WEIRD.

And we christians shuld pls wise up..even if you dont agree..dont go blaring it everywhere..

How many times do u see a moslem talk against his/her Imam publicly????..wen?.

    The Moslems PROTECT eachother

We Christians...?..we take every opportunity to slit eachodas throat.

We have no fear or respect for our leaders in the Church???.

How dare u judge a man of GOD?

Cant we follow the example of King David in the bible wen he refused to kill Saul even wen he had the chance, cos he believed King saul was still the LORD's anointed???.

Didnt GOD finish off saul at the end?

I dont care to know if Papa Ayo is right or wrong.

But if you know you respect GOD

    Leave Papa Ayo alone!

    Let GOD Judge him!

  66. There's already lawlessness, and to allow Nigerians to carry arms will be more trouble than what is already on the ground.

I understand that sometimes, those armed robbers or the idiots that stand on the road need to be shot dead. Security is very important but this will make things worse

  70. I think this Pastor is only trying to challenge the government about the level of insecurity in the country. How much they have failed so it doesn't get to the extent of the citizens carrying weapons to protect themselves.

  71. Why cant i protect myself, wife and children. Dats one of the problems we experiencing in this part of the world. I am no criminal, I earn a living legitimately, then so who says owning a gun will turn me into a criminal. You people should better rethink. This is common sense. this is the reason why other people with big guns prey on the weak. (people with no guns)> i support the man jare. the man isn't saying kill your enemy.... he is simply saying give us the right to protect ourselves if you cant do that for us

    ReplyDelete
  72. I totally agree with him. He is not saying go and kill people. In KD, almost every home has a gun...at least in some areas. so hoodlums dont get there to make trouble. Legitimate or not....if it get to a stage of total insecurity which we are already approaching, I will acquire a gun!! along with my family members. If they no say me sef get weapon..dem go think am before coming near me!!!!
