My name is Adewunmi Oyekanmi, news editor with the Beat 99.9 Fm.
An incident occurred at my work place within the early hours of the 8th of Sep 2011 between myself and another member of staff which has been blown out of proportion in the media.
I have been wrongfully quoted in various blogs and magazines, but this will be my first official statement and the last, so please disregard anything you might have seen, heard or read.
The incident in question has been dealt with to my satisfaction by the Management of Megalectrics, operators of The Beat 99.9 Fm, in a swift and conclusive manner.
The member of staff (Mr Olisa Adibua) with whom I had the altercation with, has duly apologized most sincerely and I have accepted, based on the fact that since I started working at the station, my relationship with the said party has always been cordial and friendly.
In reference to a purported conversation between myself and an undercover reporter, I’d like to state categorically that I have never had a phone conversation or granted any interview to any media or reporter.
What transpired was an internal matter which was leaked into the public domain to create division within our corporate entity. I refuse to be used as a pawn or be labelled ‘the voiceless or oppressed’.
Megalectrics, the operators of the beat 99.9fm employed me in the capacity of news editor in July 2010, and ever since I have had no cause to complain about the working environment, my colleagues or superiors.
We operate an open system where everyone is free to speak their minds, regardless of rank of hierarchy.
Once again, I’d like to reiterate that the matter has been resolved and the member of staff has apologized for the altercation we had.
In conclusion, I would like this issue to be extinguished so I can get back to my normal every day life, as the recent publications and rumors circulating have put a strain on my family and private life.
I would like to thank the management and staff of Megalectrics for the swift and decisive response to the matter. I would also like to thank everyone who showed concern. I’d like to reassure you that I am okay and in good health as is confirmed by my attached photo.
These are my final words on the subject.
Thank you very much and God bless.

If you live in Nigeria, you can not be surprised by this statement. That's how we roll in this country. But then it's one thing to be a victim, it's another thing to choose to be a victim. On to the the next one I guess!
story...they have paid you to shut up. see as them kpafuka your face, dash you extra lips, yet......
ReplyDeletesounds like he got paid off . how can you get physically assaulted and say everything is fine within 48hrs. As long as he's in good health and it doesn't happen again that's what matters.
ReplyDeleteAdewunmi sounded very OPPRESSED and SUPPRESSED. I don't blame him in this cut throat job market.
ReplyDeleteLinda, you've done your job. Tank you for bringing this to the public.
How predictable!!! Obviously he has been asked by the management of Beat Fm to make the statement to put them and that overgrown alcoholic in good light. Fact remains Beat Fm and Olisa have a PR scandal and this wont be swept under the carpet so easily.....its not till he beats someone to death that we would remand him.....
ReplyDeleteTHIS IS SOME BULL!!! I AM EVEN MORE PISSED BECAUSE WE ALL KNOW HE DID NOT WRITE THIS SHIAT!
ReplyDeleteSO IF HE DID PUT THE STORY OUT AND IF THE INCIDENT WAS MINOR, WHY DID HE TAKE PICS OF THIS SWOLLEN FACE THEN?! AND EVEN PICS OF HIS CRUSHED PHONE AND TORN CLOTHES??
RUBBISH AND INGREDIENTS!
THIS IS WHAT POVERTY CAN CAUSE.
Busy bodies go dey wonder!!! Ha ha ha! That's the way the cookie crumbles.
ReplyDeleteLinda u still rock jor!
ReplyDeleteNaija!!!! See wetin Poverty can cause. SHAME ON BEAT FM!!!
just go for scan to know say u no get internal injury...'cause from d look n ur eyes and wt d partial red eye i know u r no ok medically...na u sabi...f dem kill u d radio station wl move on...olodo
ReplyDeletehmmnnn, i dont blame this guy neither do i support his claim. i just hope this has taught Olisa a good lesson and that he wouldnt do such a thing next time. Other employers or senior employees should also learn from this.
ReplyDeleteLove you Linda..... :)
dn never beat u well. see intimidation!!!
ReplyDeletebloody spineless weakling and a coward. i vomit on your manhood. with citizens like this. wonder why nigeria is the way it is?
ReplyDeleteHabbah! Nigerians can kill a good story. well the Guy has allowed it to rest. But Olisa you have a case to answer. I am sure your wife has suppressed so many similar incidents at home to cover for your shame and weakness. Too bad
ReplyDeleteDat sounds good!
ReplyDeleteWow...just wow. I feel for the guy cos obviously he doesn't want to loose his job and he's got mouths to feed. God knows how long it took him to get that job. Its a shame this is what naika has become....where the lawless go unpunished and the oppressed suffer in silence.
ReplyDeletehmmmmm, refer to my comment on the first story...lol
ReplyDeleteif he was paid off, it better be in the millions! that's all i got to say.
z
He was threatened with death if it escalates any further. Olisa is an alcoholic monster. Nigerians stand up for Dewunmi, he can't do it all by himself!
ReplyDeletestupid asshole, that mad olisa has threaten tyou lilly livered idiot
ReplyDeleteSmh!Olisa Adibua might escape again dis time but soon, very soon he will be paid back in his own coin nd disgraced in a major way!As for dis Adewunmi dude, may God help him.All those celebrities on twitter dt use to form human right activists now suddenly blind, deaf nd dumb since dis incident all i can say is “Life na turn by turn o!!!”
ReplyDeleteLike really? He could say this? Little wonder why we are where we r in this country...am short of words...so pissed!....Meggy
ReplyDeleteMehn, this guy na serious OBOTE! When men don ready to fight for you. I go still treat Olisa f**k up sha. After we go dey complain say Nigeria this and that. This na the reason revolution no fit happen for this naija. Anyways your own cup of tea sha but Olisa, watch!
ReplyDeleteFor the record olisa is not married...
ReplyDeleteThose of you referring to his wife, Olisa is not married.
ReplyDeletei am very sure Olisa was drunk as usual... the other night he threatened to beat up the DJ in the club when he was drunk... his size is deceiving him...
ReplyDeleteAdewunmi, you do not realise how much power you have right now. If you have been paid off...they now know your price and you have no other bargaining power. If you or your family have been threatened...they now know what they need to do buy your silence. If you had refused to back down; they will be shaking in their shoes instead of you. Olisa & The Beat know they have a lot to lose but you have given them all the power. Do not fight from the shadows but step up and people will be willing to stand with you.
ReplyDeleteNigerians can never change because of poverty. So, what was the sense of over 90 people fighting for him on this blog.
ReplyDeleteWell, he cannot afford to lose his job. At the same time, he should NOT have issued such a statement.
The next time he is battered, nobody will say a word, even if he is bettered to death. Silly Dewunmi, you are a poor fool.
linda i hope you feel stupid now. The man has categorically stated it was a misunderstanding. He does not want to be used as the "voiceless or opressed" please mind your frigging business and move on. There are several people who are BEING abused on the job and want to call it as they see it, please follow thru with those ones. When someone comes out to tell you he is okay, who made you madam Theresa goody 2 shoes. This your shoboleyoke, tojubole will one day get you in big trouble. And to all the agberos and amebors on this blog, please move on, homeboy has said his piece. Quit taking acetaminophen for some other person's headache. Owon wairey de-de...Aside from all this tho, I still think Olisa is the biggest assole on the face of this planeT. His arrogance knows no bounds. Gay looking mofo
ReplyDeletePoverty ehn. I swear I dont even think he was paid a dime, he just needs the job. People need to open their eyes and realize they have rights in Nigeria.
ReplyDeleteBeat FM, what else do you expect? The station is aptly named!
ReplyDeleteOlisah...over ripe mango...chai,dis guy fall ma hand oh!dis dude shld have deflated d fat fool....oshi!
ReplyDeleteOlisah...over ripe mango...chai,dis guy fall ma hand oh!dis dude shld have deflated d fat fool....oshi!s dude shld have deflated d fat fool....oshi!
ReplyDeleteI
ReplyDeleteLinda you done your bit at the expense of running into this dude at social functions but you covered nothing dey happen..this is 9ja all over..money talks bullshit walks..even high level assasinations like Bola Ige and Funsho Williams are still unresolved..just use money to block victims/witnesses mouth and that's the end of it!!..the average Nigerian would never be free at this rate..the selfless revolution that happened in other places cannot happen in 9ja..look how Ken Saro Wiwa died in vain..that's why people get insensitized to oppression!!..
ReplyDeleteAt least we all know that Olisa dude is a class A..Azz.hole
Assault is a criminal matter.
ReplyDeleteLet the police get involved, if he (wumi) refuses to give statement, they can still charge Olisa if witnesses come forward.
Linda, UPDATE!!! the beat FM management has also issed a press statement concerning the incident...
ReplyDeletethis is a simple definition of wickedness in high places....olisa should hide his face in shame....such a bad rep for glo naija sings.
ReplyDeleteWhen will this hunger cease to insult us? SMH.
ReplyDeletethis is a simple definition of wickedness in high places....olisa should hide his face in shame....such a bad rep for glo naija sings.
ReplyDeleteDo not be quick to judge the battered Dewunmi guy please. His job is at stake here: if he loses that job none of you on this blog will provide him a job. If Dewunmi resided in the UK legally, by now he'll be smiling to the banks... But Nigeria is not the UK,so even if Dewunmi were to sue Olisa, he'll end up wasting time, energy, loss of his job and maybe even pay with his life. So the poor guy had to keep mum.
ReplyDeleteWe all know theses incidents happen everyday in Nigeria, technology has only helped bring it to the fore front.
Anyone here who slaps their staff i.e women that beat their housemaids mercilessly or maltreat them, men that slap their maiguards/cooks/mechanics at random... YOU'RE ALL AS GUILTY AS OLISA ADIBUA. Check yourselves.
You Are A Mugu and It is people like you that should be labelled Senior MUMU MUMU ... IDOit.. fool with no sense... man beat you like dog you talk say na internal mata ...lolOLOLOLO ..Mugu
ReplyDeleteNonsense! A man gives you double lip and you said the matter was internally squashed?? Did you tell your son that? Yeye man, next time he go commot all your teeth wey you know go fit speak this wey you just spit.
ReplyDeleteYeye man, did you even have the decency to atleast fight back or did you stand there while fatzilla pummel your Pommo??
ReplyDeleteIf a man did that to me, the fight will never end. I will make his fat ass deliver his 7 month pregnancy before the fight is over. There will be plenty of blood and not only mine. A lawless nation Naija, no need to call police=waste of time.
ReplyDeleteam sooooo UPSET right now!!!! argggh.....Nigeria is just a society of OPPRESSORS.....gawsh!!!
ReplyDeleteThe young man was forced to sign that release, cos what does the average naija employee know about releasing a "press release"......OMG!!! we were rooting for you bruh...Olisa's wife has nothing to say huh???? well, she is probably another victim of his late nite beatings sha.
BEAT 99 FM management - you have failed your listening audience. Naija listeners to ask OLISA for an explanation, cos thats what happens in a civilized society.
can you imagine Ryan Seacrest beating up an employee??? oMG!!! it will be allover CNN, FOX, etc.....Olisa is almost the Ryan Seacrest of Naija, but just a shameless AGBAYA OSHI....hisss
another FAILURE in the battle for the "small man".......oh well
LINDA - sweetie you deserve more praise than you get.....while i love all the Gossip and messy celeb news, i love how you keep us(readers) focused on some of the ill events that occur in our dear Naija.....I am coming to naija december, I owe u something.....nor be talk, i mean it.
Ok, let me make things clearer for you. i work with Olisa, not directly coz he is a very senior staff and i am just over 6months at Beat FM. He is a very disturbed man. drinks like there is no tomorrow and goes around with a big chip on his shoulder. Dewunmi didnt write this. although he was asked to read and approve. This, he will NEVER confirm. Olisa is an animal in more ways than one, i really dont understand why the company still keeps him. I need my job, so dont ask me to write my name. He was reading Linda's blog the other day and cussing in all possible languages (that was very hilarious. I loved it!)
ReplyDeleteOga Olisa, your time will come, and then, we will all be able to laugh and spit in your face like we all sooooo badly want to do right now.
I'm a PR person and I can tell you with confidence that this guy did not write a sentence of that letter. It was so clearly written by the PR department of Beat FM. They didn't even bother to change the typically PR-type language. Notice how much time they spent talking about Beat FM. Now its not that Olisa beat him up - they changed it to "we had an altercation". Someone should please offer this guy a job so he can leave Beat-Up FM and have d liver to sue Olisa and the station. Its just that in his ignorance, he doesn't know he can make so much more money from suing these mofos than working for them. I'm not even sure they paid him anything to shut up. They probably just threatened to sack him if he didn't sit down and smile for the camera. Poverty na bad thing. Meanwhile, I think Beat-Up FM and knuckle-heads for still keeping Olisa on staff. He's a lawsuit away from sinking that place. Though after this, they have it coming.
ReplyDeleteThis is why I love living in America. Watch your back Olisa....you fat pig!!!
ReplyDeleteChei Linda, these ya anons no go finish me wit laff mbok!!! The comments have me in stitches, honest i have tears in my eyes. The first comment is too funny also, sai!!! I don't even know what to say; i don laugh tire so tey i don forget wetin i bin wan talk sef. But Linda, you sef, you for follow hear Olisa side nah. Not that i condone violence oh (Heaven forbid), but i feel you should have also heard his side and posted his own statement as well. Well, maybe i'm wrong; i no sabi again jor. Linda, your anons are VICIOUS sha!!! Lwkmd!!!
ReplyDeleteAll of you abusing the guy should donate money for his rent and children's school fees before talking.
ReplyDeleteMr. Oyekanmi, you are obviously an unappreciative man. Se you don't know how to seize on an opportunity ni? It seems you have been paid off. I hope the hammer oloshi olisa hit on your head didn't do damages to your brain.
ReplyDeleteI hope you did a full medical check up to make sure you didn't sustain injuries, that will surface later, and this little money they have given you will cover your future medical expenses. You could legally have cleared house with several civil damages... psychological damages, emotional distress, embarrassment etc etc
Here in America you would have just retired completely after Olo shi olisa and your company settled you.
Anyway, 9ja work is hard to find, you've just discounted your self worth sha.
Folks, lets be realistic, the beat people are not going to fire olisa, simple. this dude on the other hand is expendable to them. he will not want to lose his job. all those saying he should fight, do this and that, it seems you have lived abroad for too long.
ReplyDeletethis is effing naija. if he drags this thing, he may lose his job and never get a good reference or worse, be blacklisted at all radio stations or whatever, and all of you will forget and move on with your lives and face your own daily issues and challenges.
will you offer him a job? or pick up the pieces afterwards? so people pls, be real. he is doing what he has to do. its the sad reality, there is no justice in this world. se fini!
This is a very serious assault and like some people have already said, this guy obviously does not want to be made jobless and of course cannot afford legal fees assuming he wanted to go that route. However this does not take away the fact that there is a serious problem of physical and mental abuse here.
ReplyDeleteIt I a very big shame on beat fm(even their name show say dem be beaters) and olisa adibua bcos this is a criminal offence and he should be sacked from his position and face the course of justice... Which again is questionable in naija.
Anyway, thanks Linda for bringing this to light . I believe someday in the near future, such offences will not go unpunished in naija.....xx
Chris Ubosi is a disgrace if this is the kind of company he is rnunning
ReplyDeleteOloshy ma leleyi ke? *laughing in Cantonese* with this yo swollen lips and black eyes you say you're OK..are you f**king kidding somebody cos we aint blind! You need to check yourself into a medical facility and have yourself checked for injuries everywhere that fat a**hole bamboozed your borry.
ReplyDeleteIn other news, hello my beaten down nigger, we're not the masses(God knows the masses don't read blogs*smh)you can't release a statement like this and expect us to swallow hook line and sinker like a gaddamn politician cox you're not shooo gbo?
Olisa better watch his back sha..*just saying* Shiooor!
Adewunmi...your matter is just like 'we are helping you to fast...you decide to bring the food outside the very day light to eat!!'my broda...look at your eyes and lips???ehn!this matter cannot go like that oh...anyway i trust Nigerians..Olisa the fertile pig go don hear am by now im sure!.
ReplyDeletewell said Linda, on to the next abeg...mcheww
ReplyDeleteThis man needs to settle issue with Mike Tyson so that he would no be bruised again. However, he ought to have reported to the police the brutal assaut against him by a fellow man, Come to think of it, is he really a man? Look at the way a fellow man vandalised his face...puf puf. This man needs to settle issue with Mike Tyson so that he would no be bruised again. However, he ought to have reported to the police the brutal assaut against him by a fellow man, Come to think of it, is he really a man? Look at the way a fellow man vandalised his face...puf puf.
ReplyDeleteS-T-O-R-Y
ReplyDeleteNo man who has just had his face bust up like that is going to make such a statement. Oga I don't believe you. You need more people. Internal issue? What internal issue? That you were sleeping on a couch as reported. I do not believe that he wrote this statement. The statement was written for him on behalf of his bosses and maybe some money dashed at his to agree.
Nigerians and money. It surprises me how much they will slap justice in the face for a few kobo. Disturbing.
I don't know how BEAT FM brainwashed this guy. he is a neighbour and friend. i saw him the morning after the beating and asked what happened and he was quick to tell me that he was beaten by men of the SSS that swooped into their office premises.reading this story as really disgusted me; when i remember his agony and the fact that he can't even do jack about it. chei 9ja!
ReplyDeleteIn as much as I condemn in totality what Olisa did to this guy I applaud the Guy for not allowing the matter to get out of hand... Lets dialogue and make peace. He should go to court, he should go to court what do you think the Yeye Nigerian law system where judges are corrupt will make of this matter. Do you people think we are in America
ReplyDeleteThis is not a criminal case mind you, so at the end of the day the courts awards compensation of a ridiculous One million Naira so what,, is that money. Do you know how many years this guy waited at home before he landed this job. He has a wife and children , pays bills.... Al these Women ranting when those Bank companies compel you to to go and get money by all means as they always set targets for you why dont you resign or sue your Oga , no , you will keep mute and keep your job
Area boys beat up people on daily basis and they endure it so make una no push this boy go loose him job cos you wil not employ him. He gives you his CV and you will just put it under the table. O boy keep your job jare it is not easy outside. you are a Man. If you loose your job Your wife will not applaud you, she will still call you a coward, and all these yahoo yahoo boys go de toast am.
Linda you didnt post my comment why?
ReplyDeleteAnyway its more or less been said by many readers...he is scared to lose his job.
Glo should dissociate themselves with this fat ugly toad called Olisa. He should be taken off the judge position in their sponsored programme, Glo Naija sings asap. He is denting bad rep seriously.
ReplyDeleteThat is the kind of messed up mentality & psyche we Nigerians have, employers and top management are always very hostile and harsh on their male subordinates, they are only nice to single female employees that they can sleep with, the ones who don't play ball they will frustrate. This is very bad on the part of Olisa,he should be arrested and arraigned in a court of law,I blame Dewunmi for not promptly reporting to the police and approaching the office of The Public Defender for help,we also have NGOs like Access to Justice. He is an undergraduate and the only reason why he didn't report to the police must be so he doesn't loose his job that I'm sure pays him peanuts. We tolerate and stomach all sorts of crap in this country, foreigners maltreat and enslave us in our own country,we are at the mercy of armed robbers while foreign nationals are protected by armed police escorts who chase us off the roads for the foreigners to pass.
ReplyDeleteDem don ginger dis guy seriously, i feel sorry for him no big man 2guarantee his safety so he has 2gbakamu and shut up else he'll b dead meat, d fat fool has alot of gangstar buddies..........o ma shei oh.
ReplyDeleteSo much for domestic abuse in Nigeria. The next time this thing go happen, na die. :(
ReplyDeleteI wonder how much they paid him off with.
This will not stop me from BEATing up Olisa any day i come across him, and pls if Jim Iyke can do me a favour of beating him again i will be his fan for life.
ReplyDelete@Ticked off must be Olisa himself..you must be really ticked off..u probs thinking u were God's gift to women..one thing's 4 sure..ur ego rather than ur belly has been well deflated!!
ReplyDeleteYou guys should stop blaming this guys for whatever he has come out to say. He may have been threatened and he's scared shitless. He may just be trying to protect himself...
ReplyDeleteOppression of the poor...
ReplyDeletethis guy na mumu
ReplyDeletePlease guy let the matter be. You cant more Catholic than the pope. Dewunmi has said that he is satisfied with the decision of the his management. SO BE IT.
ReplyDeletena wa. What wont we see in Nigeria.
ReplyDeleteI dnt blame d dewunmi guy entirely getting a job in dis country is something else bt dis olisa guy shld be dealt wit abeg! Glo shld pls yank him off their sponsored programme nd he shld neva get any other endorsement 4 d rest of his miserable life he is nt a worthy ambassador nd shld be treated like a jerk which he is! I pray u read dis u r olisa u r a spineless hopeless prick!
ReplyDeletethis is ridiculous. how much would they have paid this guy to release this kind of statement. he should learn more about his civic rights. this is ridiculous. shame on u
ReplyDeleteSee am, fat lazy fool,u could not even pinch the nigger. Now u comin out with ur busted lips saying u fine, where I'm from they call people like sure match" omaaaa See am, fat lazy fool,u could not even pinch the nigger. Now u comin out with ur busted lips saying u fine, where I'm from they call people like sure match" omaaaa
ReplyDeleteWho b that mumu wey talk say the incidence no be criminal case. Does he know jack about the Labour Law? Guys, abeg no dey gree this kind mumu action from Dewunmi oooooo.
ReplyDeleteEnough human right activists/lawyers dey wey go treat this kind case for free and get paid later, bcos dem know say dem must win. Especially with Olisa's statement as evidence.
May God help the learned unlearned, and the unwise foolish to take the right actions at the right time...AMEN
9ja lawyers need to to tap into NO WIN NO PAY lawsuits..it's all the rage now...
ReplyDeletethis adewunmi guy needs to realise one of olisa's blows could have killed him...and believe me,the management of beat fm would still have tried, just as they are doing now,to sweep this matter under the carpet...he would just have been wasted for nothing, cos they place no value on his life, other than the monthly stipends they pay him,and for which know they make him sweat it all out.this case represents a watershed in employer-employee abuse cases, which are very rampant in nigeria.ADEWUNMI,history beckons, take up the challenge, there are people like you who in the past have refused to be abused and silenced, some died penniless, but they died dignified....have u ever heard of a lady called rosa parks in the united states?read about her....as for olisa, that weed wey u dey smoke will be your greatest undoing,go write am down....old shameless man like you wey ur mates dey train dem children for university,u dey fight like area boy dey blow harmless people,if u wan prove say u get power, why u no go barracks go slap soldier, ode buruku, they say growing old is compulsory, but growing up is a choice, you have refused to grow up at 50yrs abi wetin be your age again,i pity your parents cos you are a complete shame to them..
ReplyDeleteNawao.... Person release statement to say what he feels and Nigerians are still yarning dust say they paid him off. Na pikin? If them pay am off nko? No be him choice. People please let the man be. As long as he wasn't forced to release this statement then the case is closed. Linda, abeg if you have further evidence say dem force this guy write wetin him write.....let us know. If not, people make una let mata B!
ReplyDelete
