World's Sexiest Accents. Nigeria Ranked No.5

In the top 12 hottest accent compiled by CNNGO, the Nigerian accent was ranked 5th hottest after the Italian, French, Spanish, and Czech accents.

Here's what they wrote about the Nigerian accent.
Famous tongues: King Sunny Adé, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde.
Dignified, with just a hint of willful naiveté, the deep, rich “oh’s” and “eh’s” of Naija bend the English language without breaking it, arousing tremors in places other languages can’t reach. Kinda makes the occasional phone scam worth the swindle.
Wow, fantastic! But why did they have to spoil it by adding scam eh? *hiss* :-)

  2. These back handed compliments we receive all the time from these foreign journalists. We reject this one in toto. Its nice to know our accent is one of the sexiest in the world, but if the only way they can illustrate it is by implying that it helps us in propagating scams etc, then they should take their compliment back. Shame on them for sneaking in those snide remarks. Better to have a good reputation and integrity as a people than to have the sexiest accent in the world ..which I agree we do have. *wink*

  19. i dont think the writer meant bad with what he said,
"Kinda makes the occasional phone scam worth the swindle"

means that even though you're being scammed on the phone you'll still want to listen to the person because you just want to keep listening to the sexy Nigerian accent.

  20. If they are going to add scam, it is their cup.

  24. Theee is no such thing as Nigerian accent. They have to be specific. You got the Igbo accent, Yoruba accent , Hausa accent etc. I hope all those that are shining they teeths about this patty remark will shine they teeth when the same oyibo people say something nagetive about 9ja. We jump up and down like little kids when the White man give us thumbs up on something.

  28. I find that hard to believe. The typical Nigerian accent is unsexy and unpleasant to the ears

  30. see the comments i left for the CNN writer below. we need to let them know its not fair..mcheew.

as a Nigerian i am really proud that our mother tongue and accent sound sexy to people, but i must confess i am really disappointed with the comment about the phone/bank scam comment,i believe the writer is a bias mother fucker,so you re telling me that the Italians are not known for their Mafia gang issues, czech and french for Prostitution and irish for fraud and alcoholism too>sir get your facts write and always be fair.

  33. I personally saw this article yesterday and i found it insulting please! i don't know where they got off thinking naija accent is sexy?! Firstly it ain't in my opinion and secondly the writer's comments were highly derogatory and wasn't worth putting up.

    ReplyDelete
  34. One question please....
Is there such things as a 'Nigerian accent'
My Edo accent is totally different from my Ibo, Yoruba and Hausa brothas/sistas

Even within Edo/Delta we have soooo many accents

    ReplyDelete
  35. you shouldnt be insulting Ghanians just because they are not on the list ...

    ReplyDelete
  36. so omotola gets d attention dis time and not genevieve.....hmn.

    ReplyDelete
  37. are genevieve and omotola the only two famous Nigerians in this world? why are you always mentioning irrelevant things by trying to compare? its getting tired, abeg.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Isn't it true? Mschewww. you guys better be happy that they are still saying nice things.

    FACT:

Many Naijas abroad are involve in one or two shady business, SCAM. The unfortunate thing is, every naija knows one or two people doing it. Is either everybody is keeping quiet, don't want to snitch or dat same uncle that lives in big house, squandering money, doing bigz boy isn't really doing the honest business you think they are doing.

So, every naija dat keeps complaining about their mention of naija scam can go hug a transformer.

Instead of naijas being in a state of denial and lying about it, why don't you face it and continue to build a better reputation about yourselves.

  39. Waoo its fantatic. I always hate the way speak, cos it sounds too childish to me. Imaging hating ur own voice, cos it sounds like when a six years old girl is talking. But now am pround and I won't even try to imitate all those ayibo way of speaking.
I really hate the fact that they added 'scam joke' to it even though its the true, for the whole world to see.

But is it that my eyes are deceiving or why don't I see 'American Enlish' added to it? I only saw 'Queen's English' which is the 'British English'.
