So the story making the rounds now is the claims by Nollywood actress, Steph Nora Okere, that the Okoye men stole materials from one of the tracks in her yet-to-be released debut album. Yeah, she's going into music too.
Steph claims that several months ago, she sampled the opinion of Jude Okoye, the elder brother, producer and manager of Peter and Paul, on one of her songs titled 'Jeje', only for her to find a sample of it in P-Square's new album, The Invasion. Here's what she told the press:
Continue to see the rest“I sent the song over to Jude via email and he listened to it. The next day I called him for his opinion and he said exactly these words ‘Stephnora the song is good but don’t release it like that because it doesn’t meet the standard of the Nigerian market’. I asked him what should be done and he suggested that I return to the studios and brush it up.
“As a brother and colleague, I took his advice and went back to the studio with my producer, Jiff. I also consulted with my manager, and we agreed to improve on the work ahead of the album launch, which I planned for this December. I finally completed the song in May/ June. But to my consternation, two weeks ago my personal assistant called my attention to P Square’s new album, which included a track entitled Jeje.
“What they did was to remix the chorus of my version to a danceable track. That was not all; they also gave their version the same title, Jeje and featured Waje.”
She's threatening to go to court. The Okoye brothers aren't saying anything at the moment
eyaa sorry o...
ReplyDeletebut from all the other songs they release you dint know they were lyric fappers? choi, mistake...

ReplyDeleteSorry dear,
ReplyDeleteYou are getting to know that P-squares are professional plagiarists. I hardly see originality in their works. But I still listens to their songs though. Look for somebody else to copy. Ndo!
Stephie baby, I believe you jare! Those guys have a thing for 'remaking' OPM (other people's music). Make your lawyer rich - go to court:-\

ReplyDeleteWelcome to the real world, in case you are just arriving or you where sleeping. Take the advice of Mute observer and look for someone else to copy
ReplyDeletewell P Square isnt original, they just usually remix it and twist it into their own, so i believe her because they do it all the time.
ReplyDeletemaybe if she releases her original song with this story, people will believe what she's saying. until then...
This is not the first time someone has said P Square stole his song after he went to them for help. Another upcoming artiste said he gave P Square the song Danger to listen and give him feedback. They told him the same thing; go and work more on it. Next thing they release as their own. Steph, if you read this, sue these guys. Someone needs to let them know they can't get away with this.
ReplyDeleteShe sent email right? So there's a header and what not?
ReplyDeleteInstead of her to send the song to Linda, who could have negotiated deal for her. I dey laugh o. If she can prove it; get a lawyer and drag them to court.
ReplyDeleteThis matter is simple really. If she has evidence of sending the track to jude; with timing, date and all, she should package everything and get a good lawyer! A VERY good lawyer. Cos i can just imagine how hurt she will be at this moment (thats if her side of the story is true) If this is true, then its same as outright robbery and she needs to get paid back by P sqaure!
ReplyDeleteIt isnt right for anyone (Psquare inclusive) to make a living from other people's sweat
n so woT!!!?? or haven'T yu heard Tha sayin dhaT "PIPUL KNO YU FOR WOT YU HAVE DONE N NOT FOR WOT YU PLAN TO DO"....make yu 'kuku' record anoTha Track naw....na wa oO!n so woT!!!?? or haven'T yu heard Tha sayin dhaT "PIPUL KNO YU FOR WOT YU HAVE DONE N NOT FOR WOT YU PLAN TO DO"....make yu 'kuku' record anoTha Track naw....na wa oO!
ReplyDeleteI believe her, stealing/copying songs/song titles is RIFE in this Nigerian music industry.
ReplyDeleteIf she sent it to Jude by email, she should have a good enough case provided that electronic information is admissible in court and she can get the message and the date authenticated. Then if she can get proof that the Jeje song on PSquare's album was first recorded after the email was sent...
Good luck to her
shit happens darlyn...n in ds case its quite painful cos Psquare has a name in d music industry while u dont. pls take 'em to court else they'll kip shinning with ur hardwork while u'll be underground.

ReplyDeleteYou Nigerians are a sorry bunch. Always critisizing. Perhaps it is best we wait for all the evidence to be presented before all these dirty ignorant comments are made. This woman is obviously stupid. Go do your home work missy. Release the damn song and let us africans judge for ourselves. I love psquare and yes they are original.
ReplyDeletewait a minute? how person go accuse big name like psquare of thiefing her song and she no bring her own for the public to judge? this is the highest level of desperation. old mama no fit respect herself find husband. when she begin sing? where the song?

ReplyDeleteJeje your expired behind back to jejericho where you belong Steph Nora. Leave psquare alone make them dey jolly dey go. File a lawsuit if u strongly believe they ripped you of your intellectual property. Like others have said, release your song so that we the public can judge for ourselves that indeed they did or did not "steal" your song. Using the same slang, lingo, expression, title of song or album is common practice and not a big deal at all so stop building a mountain out of a mole hill.
