So She Lied? Prosecutors To Drop Rape Charges Against Dominique Strauss-Kahn

The sexual assault case against Dominique Strauss-Kahn is on the verge of collapse as investigators have uncovered major holes in the credibility of the housekeeper who charged that he attacked her in his Manhattan hotel suite in May, according to two well-placed law enforcement officials.

Although forensic tests found unambiguous evidence of a sexual encounter between Mr. Strauss-Kahn, a French politician, and the woman, prosecutors now do not believe much of what the accuser has told them about the circumstances or about herself.

Since her initial allegation on May 14, the accuser has repeatedly lied, one of the law enforcement officials said.

Senior prosecutors met with lawyers for Mr. Strauss-Kahn on Thursday and provided details about their findings, and the parties are discussing whether to dismiss the felony charges. Among the discoveries, one of the officials said, are issues involving the asylum application of the 32-year-old housekeeper, who is Guinean, and possible links to people involved in criminal activities, including drug dealing and money laundering.
Prosecutors and defense lawyers will return to State Supreme Court in Manhattan on Friday morning, when Justice Michael J. Obus is expected to consider easing the extraordinary bail conditions that he imposed on Mr. Strauss-Kahn in the days after he was charged.

Indeed, Mr. Strauss-Kahn could be released on his own recognizance, and freed from house arrest, reflecting the likelihood that the serious charges against him will not be sustained. The district attorney’s office may try to require Mr. Strauss-Kahn to plead guilty to a misdemeanor, but his lawyers are likely to contest such a move.
The revelations are a stunning change of fortune for Mr. Strauss-Kahn, 62, who was considered a strong contender for the French presidency before being accused of sexually assaulting the woman who went to clean his luxury suite at the Sofitel New York.
A lawyer for the woman, Kenneth P. Thompson, in an email message, did not offer a direct rebuttal to the allegations.
“Nothing changes one very important fact, namely, that Dominique Strauss-Kahn violently sexually assaulted the victim inside of that hotel room at the Sofitel,” he said.

Prosecutors from the office of the Manhattan district attorney, Cyrus R. Vance Jr., who initially were emphatic about the strength of the case and the account of the victim, plan to tell the judge on Friday that they “have problems with the case” based on what their investigators have discovered, and will disclose more of their findings to the defense. The woman still maintains that she was attacked, the officials said.
“It is a mess, a mess on both sides,” one official said.

According to the two officials, the woman had a phone conversation with an incarcerated man within a day of her encounter with Mr. Strauss-Kahn in which she discussed the possible benefits of pursuing the charges against him. The conversation was recorded.

That man, the investigators learned, had been arrested on charges of possessing 400 pounds of marijuana. He is among a number of individuals who made multiple cash deposits, totaling around $100,000, into the woman’s bank account over the last two years. The deposits were made in Arizona, Georgia, New York and Pennsylvania.

The investigators also learned that she was paying hundreds of dollars every month in phone charges to five companies. The woman had insisted she had only one phone and said she knew nothing about the deposits except that they were made by a man she described as her fiancé and his friends.
In addition, one of the officials said, she told investigators that her application for asylum included mention of a previous rape, but there was no such account in the application. She also told them that she had been subjected to genital mutilation, but her account to the investigators differed from what was contained in the asylum application.

In recent weeks, Mr. Strauss-Kahn’s lawyers, Benjamin Brafman and William W. Taylor III, have made it clear that they would make the credibility of the woman a focus of their case. In a May 25 letter, they said they had uncovered information that would “gravely undermine the credibility” of the accuser.
Still, it was the prosecutor’s investigators who found the information about the woman.

  3. No Linda she did not lie about the rape... They found his DNA on her.... remember???. I am sure if they paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to a private investigator he will find skeletons in your closet..no one is innocent ...and Strauss Kahn and his defense team with their dirty money have fished her skeletons out and are trying to use the question of her credibility against her. However all she did was lie in order to gain asylum in the United states so she wont have to go back to Guinea.

  4. Well, there's a new IMF president; Christine Lagarde. So of what use is the trial?

It had to be a black woman that they used to smear his name.

But watch this man bounce back.
Nicholas Sarkozy should be afraid, be very afraid. He's coming for your seat.

It was so obvious it was a set-up from the word go.

Strauss-Kahn maintained that they had consensual sex meaning they both agreed to have sex with each other hence his DNA on her and charges of rape are baseless.

    GIRL is a liar!!

  11. three things: she could either be telling the truth or authorities who want strauss-khan brought to book and who know her 'hidden' story decided to use her as a set up for him or she just decided to use him to her advantage...any way, we hope to learn the truth but with money n a good lawyer, things can turn arnd for the man

  12. @ Anon july 2,1:40pm. There was sexual encounter, the question is if it was rape. The lies that might distroy the case is not about her asylum, they are the lies she told about the incident.

However, in US judicial system credibility does come into play, because if you are notorious for lying your way through things, engage in illegal activities to gain money, they have to look into your motive for the accusation. To you and I, lying inorder to stay in the United States might not be a big deal, but it is illegal. There seems to be too many "skeletons" in her closet and while "no one is innocent" not everyone goes around with a shady past and breaking the law.

  13. what do you expect i knew it am sure she was paid to blackmail Strass Kahn by the US so he could be removed from the IMF

  14. if she lied about the rape, why did she think she could get away with all the stuff in her background? A lot of people with with immigration trouble are very careful with law enforcement even when they are in the right.
There's something still fishy about this story.

  16. Acccording to the NY Post, the chambermaid who accused Dominique Strauss-Khan of sexually assaulting her in a swanky hotel suite in May, was, in fact, a hooker who provided sexual services in addition to her housekeeping duties.
Strauss-Kahn, 63, was dragged off a commercial jet at Kennedy airport on May 15, and arrested for allegedly raping a hotel maid. A Manhattan judge set Strauss-Kahn’s bail at $6 million — $1 million of that in cash. After spending a week in jail on suicide watch, he was subsequently released to home confinement at considerable expense to his long suffering wife, who traveled from her home in France to bail him out.
But the maid, 32-year-old Nafissatou Diallo, has since been outed by defense attorneys, and the NY Post, as a hooker who lied on her application for asylum in the U.S. Diallo allegedly lied about being gang raped in Guinea.
Strauss-Khan was set free on his own recognizance yesterday. The smear campaign against Diallo got off to a running start almost immediately after Strauss-Khan was arrested.
In short order we learned that Diallo was probably HIV+ because she lived in a flop house specifically for HIV+ residents.
According to the Post, Diallo was “collecting cash on the side from male guests” at the luxury Sofitel hotel in NYC where she worked. “There is information . . . of her getting extraordinary tips” from hotel guests, according to the Post.
“When you’re a chambermaid at Local 6, when you first get to the US, you start at the motels at JFK [Airport]. You don’t start at the Sofitel,” a source told the Post. “There’s a whole squad of people who saw her as an earner.”
The woman also had “a lot of her expenses — hair braiding, salon expenses — paid for by men not related to her,” the source said.ACCORDING TO THE NY POST..........

  20. CITED from Newser et al –

Yesterday, the New York Post reported, by way of a source, that the maid accusing Dominique Strauss-Kahn of sexual assault worked as a prostitute at the Sofitel Hotel. Today, the paper advances that storyline. A source tells the Post that the maid was after Strauss-Kahn's money, having been "told by the crew she ran with that this was a gold mine." The source says the maid knew what Strauss-Kahn looked like thanks to a photo of him that was hanging in the maid closet, signaling he was an important guest.

The source says that after performing oral sex on him, the maid demanded money, which Strauss-Kahn refused to give her. He then turned away from her and began to dress. "There was an expectation of money after the fact, but he was dismissive. She remained in the room with him while he got dressed for at least nine minutes," the source says. The Post calls the exchange "humiliating" and says it "sparked the maid's anger," and that the ensuing "fight" was what prompted Strauss-Kahn to hurry out of the hotel, cellphone-less.

  23. The girl is a hustler..has had 1000's of dollars deposited in her acct by her boyfriend..she lied on an application form to get low income housing in for HIV patients...she also visited the jailhouse discussing with her convict boyfriend how she had landed a big catch..how stupid of her doesnt she know phone lines in jail are recorded..i guess they must have spoken in French..but of course there are translators...This girl has been very busy and aggressive for being in the US only a few years..anyway NY is a very fast place..anything can happen there..
The compelling thing here is that DSK has had a rap sheet of abusing women...who knows who made advances to whom, and the rest is history...
