Lagos Flood has so far killed over 25 people

The heavy downpour we witnessed in Lagos on Sunday July 10 was really bad. So far 25 corpses have been recovered in various parts of Lagos, including 11 children. Five corpses were recovered from a canal at Dopemu, while another seven were recovered from another canal in Aboru, Alimosho LGA. Some people died in their car trying to maneouvre through the flood and ended up in a ditch. So many homes lost their furniture, some still can't get the water out of their homes. Properties worth billions were destroyed. Yes, it was that bad! In fact it's the worst to hit Lagos in a long time. And I hear more rainy days are coming.

Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola,(left, wearing a blue jacket) and his team have been going round some areas to inspect the damage and re-assure Lagosians.

  1. This is a wakeup call to sort this issue out now. The drainage system in Lagos state (and many other states) is so poor. What a horrible way to die. May they RIP.

  2. I agree, the drainage system and the poor planning or lack of it in many towns and cities in the country needs to be re-visited soonish and plans put in place. In other countries, there would be disaster funds set-up to help the victims but in this case, where do you start.

  3. Government should do something about the drainage system just read on a friend's page on fb about a young couple that drowned on Sunday while returning from church. Their car ran into a canal and both died. The couple had a son who's only a few months old. Very sad story. May their souls rest in peace.
