Quote of the day

 HID Awolowo and Sam Omatseye

"I wrote once that this woman whom Awo once described as the jewel of inestimable value has lost value to his cause. If he came back to life, he would have committed the extraordinary act of divorce after death. Even his newspaper, The Tribune, has so stumbled and fallen that it swims in Awo’s vomit." - Journalist, Sam Omatseye writes in Nation Newspaper

I hate it when people are rude to old people. How dare you write something like this about a woman who is over 95 years old? Sam, show some respect, please!

  1. Sam is a fool. Does he really believe that this woman at 95 years is running the company? What a moronic thing for him to say. Let me give him back as he has given mama. OLODO!

  2. it such a shame that a writer of Sam's pedigree can descend on the poor mama like dis...the internet has been raging since the piece broke on monday..its all politics. but i think politics should'nt be muddy all the time...i expect an apology on his monday column...the venom is clearly unwarranted and somewhat irresponsible.

  3. Linda,who is dis journalist with a one-digit brain...

  4. You are one of the problems with Nigeria, Linda. Age has nothing to do with the facts he laid before us all. He just said she has lost value to his cause which in my opinion is true.

Can a young person not call an elder to order? SMH!!!

  5. @Moi, 10:55am.........I share your opinion..the same way some peeps were saying that Emir went too far in calling VP to order some weeks ago!

  6. He who pays the piper, dictates the tune. We are know that The Nation Newspaper belongs to Bola Tinubu. Sam is only doing the bidding of his employer (Tinubu).

The fact that Awo was a politician does not mean his wife and children should join politics. Infact, Awo deliberately did not allow his wife to do politics so that the woman would bring up the children well.

If Bola Tinubu has problem with any of the Awo's family not attending the inuaguration of any his 'stooges' inauguaration, he should come out openly. He should tell if he invited any of them and they fail to turn up.

The Akala of this world, the Oyinlola of this etc that Sam mentioned in his write-up went to Mama HID and not Mama HID going to them.

Sam should knoe that when the chips are down, Tinubu will disown him. He should tread gently.

A word is enough for the wise.

  9. Moi, NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! a young person CANNOT!!!!! Instead, he/she can tell another old person to do it. IT IS NOT DONE!!!!!!!!!

If a young person does that and worse to you at 95yrs, how would you feel?

Yes, a 95yr-old can be wrong but it is not in the place of a much younger person like Sam to correct.

Insults don't achieve anything but corrections do.

  10. He wrote some truthful things there & he also wrote a lot of disrespectful things there. However, to ensure the article dies a natural death, the AWOS should not have responded. I believe one of her kids wrote the riposte, read it to Mama HID and got her to sign. Politics is dirty and they (ACN perhaps) will fight back with all sorts of ripostes. I would like to hear BAT's response to this.....

  11. I am not in support of disrespecting elders - I hate it, but being an elderly person does not give the right to disrespect the human rights of others (like some old ex-Military Generals) or to be corrupt and selfish(like some old politicians), or to think that you can never do wrong. Elderly people who deserve respect are those who should be able to shamelessly and humbly accept responsibility for their mistakes and avoid them in future.

  12. @ moi and igwe u are both silly!!! to correct someone does not mean that u insult the person, whatever she has done does not warrant what the disrespectful journalist said. he went too far. is that how they correct people in ur house???

Haba!! lets be sincere to ourselves now! An elderly woman like dat, u say such and mean to correct her in fact she would even do more wrong cos u have passed no msg (correction) across rather insults!!!!

  13. oh oh its not fair now sam, show some respect haba

  14. this isnt calling to order, this is insulting - he said Awo would divorce her if he was alive - idiot Sam, Awo wouldnt divorce her Fool, he would be running the companies idiot...

  15. If tinubu is the inheritor to Awolowo's legacy, then I am the uncle of a chimpanzee.

Awolowo fought politics based on principled ideology and ideas, not the embezzling of public funds and using them to pursue a political agenda.

Awolowo was not a thief, though he had immense access to the treasury.

This is a blatant hit piece.

BTW the inheritor to Awos legacy was Jakande, but he messed himself up with Abacha...

  16. Wow! @ 95 years old, what does this journalist expect from Mrs. Awolowo? This piece of scum Sam Omatseye should tender an unreserved apology and be made to quit his job immediately!

What a mess....is this how you practice journalism? I mean, seriously. BTW, he should be praying so he can last that long!!! smh

  17. linda! for your mouth.

can't imagine anybody as rude as you2.

now, you of all people is saying someone is rude?....interesting?

  18. This guy is a first class fool. So because people refuse to livein their husband/father's footsteps they have failed????

Mr journalist, please tell me is you father a journalist?if not may all the insults you have dropped on this family return to you.

    Classic example of educated fool.Nonsense!!!

    ReplyDelete
  19. aren't people allowed to carve out their own lives anymore? must one follow the foot steps of their father even if they are not so inclined? or the legacy of a husband even if one doesn't have the ability, knowledge and passion for the path laid out? Is it that easy to fill giant shoes? Is politics in Nigeria or anywhere else easy to contend with?

and at the ripe old age of 95 what does this journalist expect this woman to do now about the situation? why didn't he write this three decades ago? wouldn't this be tantamount to kicking a man when he is down and almost out? callous, easy, mean spirited and entirely unnecessary?

  20. All this because she didn't suck up to or acknowledge Tinubu..since the elections I noticed people have been trying to compare Tinubu to Pa Awo..God forbid!!..he might have positioned Fashola but he also tried to stab Fashola in the back unluckily for him tradional lagosians rallied for Fashola behind the scenes with all the usual u know what I mean goings on..

  21. sometimes, it pays to be up to date, na wetin dey cause all dis unnecessary display of agro, truth is, i lost respect for d mama and the rest of the family when she started pallying up to that gbenga daniel, well he obviously was using the woman for his own image but then old age no mean say make person forget principle, i can't imagine awo and daniel on the same table! maybe the divorce was too far but i don't doubt he wouldn't have done it, she sef no go wan use damask do pants now.
