The Ricky Gervais Golden Globes Jokes. Did he go too far?

During the three-hour ceremony, the 49-year-old comedian insulted just about everyone in the film industry.

On Hollywood: ‘It’s an honour to be here in a room full of what I consider to be the most important people on the planet. Actors. They’re just better than ordinary people, aren’t they?’

LOL, this man has yawered I'm telling you. How bold! He was indirectly pointing out the vanity in Hollywood. My goodness, did y'all watch this man at the Golden Globes? Couldn't believe some of the words that came out of his mouth...loved it tho! lol

Some more insults when you continue...

On Golden Globes' President: "Eva Longoria has the daunting task of introducing Berk, the association's president. 'That's nothing, I just had to help him off the toilet and pop his teeth in."

On Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp for their film The Tourist: "Seems like everything this year was three-dimensional. Except the characters in The Tourist. I tell you what, I’m jumping on the bandwagon, because I haven’t even seen The Tourist. Who has?’

On Cher "No one has wanted to go to a Cher concert since 1975."

On Charlie Sheen: "It's going to be a night of partying and heavy drinking, or, as Charlie Sheen calls it, breakfast.'

On Angelina Jolie: "You can be a little child, a little Asian child, with no possessions, no money – but you see a picture of Angelina Jolie and you think, “Mummy!”’

On Robert Downey: ‘Many of you in this room probably know him best from the Betty Ford Clinic and the Los Angeles County Jail.’(The Betty Ford Clinic is where Hollywood drunks go to dry out.)

On Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor's film, I Love You Phillip Morris : "Two heterosexual actors pretending to be gay, so the complete opposite of some famous Scientologists then’

On Bruce Willis: Gervais introduced him as Ashton Kutcher's dad

On Sex And The City 2 cast: "The movie should have won the special effects award for ‘the team that airbrushed that poster. Girls, we know how old you are. I saw one of you in an episode of Bonanza.'

On Heather Mills: "Heather Mills must be thinking, that's the one that got away" referring to Mark Zuckerberg's $7billion fortunate.

And so on and so forth. Some people in Hollywood aren't happy about some of the things he said. In fact, some of the actors' agents have complained to Golden Globes organizers. The organisers aren't happy either.
The Golden Globes president lashed out at Ricky, saying: "We loved the show. It was a lot of fun and obviously has a lot of people talking. When you hire a comedian like Ricky Gervais, one expects in your face, sometimes outrageous material. Certainly, in this case, he pushed the envelope and occasionally went too far. The HFPA would never condone some of his personal remarks. Overall, however, the show was among the best we’ve ever had and we were pleased.”

Ricky couldn't care less. "This year, I went about right. If anyone was offended, then I don't care," Gervais told TVGuide.com.

Ricky Gervais's opening monologue...

So what do you think, did he go too far?

  1. The jokes are always written for the hosts so the actors/actresses understand it. Guess they wont be too offended.BTW its Hollwood, I'm sure the stars have heard worse jokes about themselves.

  3. I loved it.
    Real comedians can be cruel.
If they wanted a psycophant as a host, they should have invited one of their bland actor to host the ceremony.
This was refreshing - sometimes these award shows can be sooooo boring.

  8. The Jim carrey joke was actually thinking a shot at Tom Cruise. As in "the opp of a famous scientologist" rumors have it that Tom is gay pretending to be hetro.

  10. I SAY PREACH RICKY GERVAIS, PREACH! They want someone to come there and kiss their behind, tell them how wonderful they all are, well they should keep paying their stylists, hair dressers, make up artists, agents, personal assistants, managers, publicist, lawyers, accountants, boyfriends/girlfriends/wives/husbands and in some cases parents because they are the people who do that on a constant basis. The man was paid to make the show interesting and entertaining. I think he succeeded, LOL.

Before they hired him, didn't they watch comedy routine and his show, The Office (the british version)? Make them go siddon, all those folks making apologies for him are the same people laughing their heads off and agreeing in the privacy of their home in the company of their trusted friends/family members. The only person I would say he should have stayed away from roasting is Robert Downey, jr. because I think he's paid his dues, got his act together and has come back to carry on as one of the best actors in Hollywood UNLIKE the juvenile Charlie Sheen! This is why the say the way of the Lord is a mystery because I don't get (1)how he's still alive with the amount of substance abuse he's put himself through and (2) making the money that he makes, TWO MILLION AN EPISODE AKA TWO MILLION DOLLARS A WEEK when someone other person would probably be fired by now and when there are much more talented people still pounding the pavement and can't get a leg into the business.

  15. Ricky Gervais is NOT funny. The man only got a break and access to Hollywood through his connection with Jonathan Ross. Jonathan Ross was the same person that connected Russell Brand with his friends in Hollywood.

  17. TO- ::<>:: and EM

From CCLuv: Some people find Conan O'Brien to be funny and I'd rather watch water boil than watch him. Ricky Gervais' humor will wash over someone who doesn't understand that British, dry, wry wit or sarcasm. It doesn't matter who introduced him to Hollywood, after all it is a town of who you know, he's made the best of it. He is getting paid a MINT for "The Office" in New York, he's created various versions of the same show in other countries so there is something to be said for initiative on the man's part meanwhile all Russell Brand's been able to accomplish is to get married to Katy Perry who had kept him off drugs, alcohol and groupie sex and saddle us with that goddawful film "Get Him To The Greeks!"

@ Anonymous 6.28pm: Maybe Linda don tire wit "we are getting married tomorrow", "no, we are getting married next week"...maybe Linda is waiting for the ink to dry on the marriage certificate LOL.

  20. ITS ALL A BLOODY ACT from the angry producers to the angry actors. they i knew that it was staged and they got much higher ratings than ever before.
its like the same thing that happened to Russell Brand in the VMAs to the extent that Katy Perry said she'd rather kiss a frog than him but we all know the rest of that story.

nobody wants to watch an award without music no matter how prestigious it is so the best thing to do is to create ruckus which would lead to people talking and would lead to higher ratings/television coverage/magazine reviews and people wanting to tune in next year for the award show. so its a comeback strategy for the golden globes and since most Americans are too chicken to do it, they always use a Brit.
