National Executive Committee Of PDP Expels Nwodo And Then He "Resigns"

Nwodo
Deposed former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party , Okwezilieze Nwodo, has been expelled from the  Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The former chairman of the party was expelled via a motion moved by deputy national chairman of the PDP, Dr. Haliru Muhammed Bello, at an emergency national executive committee meeting summoned by the party for the purpose of addressing the conduct of the national chairman at the PDP national convention last Thursday.

The emergency meeting which started before noon in Abuja today had a single agenda. It was a memo raised by Dr. Bello addressed to NEC calling for the removal of Nwodo for bringing the party to "disrepute" contrary to article 12 of the PDP constitution.  The memo accused Nwodo of attempting to forcefully preside over the PDP national convention. The memo further relied on a resolution of the PDP Southeast caucus passing a vote of no confidence on Nwodo yesterday.

The motion to expel Nwodo was unanimously adopted by a simple majority of NEC. But in a dramatic fashion the former chairman resurfaces after the motion for his expulsion was carried, he then tenders a letter of resignation which led NEC to water-down its action. His resignation was accepted and NEC referred the matter of his conduct to the party's disciplinary committee.

Nwodo was removed by an Enugu state high court last week by way of an interim injunction which effectively prevented him from participating in the PDP convention. However, he later stormed the convention venue sand tried to take over the convention activities midway into the speech by his deputy.
