American International School Sends Pupils Home.

The American International School, Abuja, has suspended all academic activities till further notice. This follows our (234next) exclusive story on Tuesday that the school was flouting a federal government directive that all private and public schools across the country remain shut for the period of the voter registration exercise.

The school's website finally announced the closure of the school yesterday in a message posted by Amy Uzoewulu, the director: "In compliance with the Nigerian Government's directive, AISA will reopen for preschool through Grade 8 on Tuesday, February 1, 2011."

A visit to the premises of the school yesterday found the place devoid of activities and under lock and key, guarded by a few security men at the gate. A notice, boldly written on a yellow cardboard, in red and black ink, declared: ‘School is closed.' The reason for the closure was not stated, neither was the notice signed. The date of resumption was also not specified. - 234next

  1. This is BS sha, they are not the only school open during this period. I would not have been bullied by 234next for not doing the government the favor they requested. The directive is NOT a law, why the hell should schools be closed for over a month due to voter's registration? When they have to extend registration into March nko? The schools remain shut?

Like I said several schools are still open. The two well known private schools in Lekki Phase 1 have been open since their prescheduled resumption date

  2. Some of the private schools in Ogun state that remained open have also suspended academic activities till February 01. But some private schools are still in session.
