Olaitan 'DaGrin' Olaonipekun has passed away. Official press release..

We regret to announce the passing of our son, friend, partner and brother Mr. Olaitan Oladapo Olaonipekun A.K.A. Dagrin.

He died at 6:00pm on Thursday April 22 – exactly eight days after he was involved in a ghastly accident in front of Alakara Police station, off Agege motor road, Mushin, Lagos.

He survived a serious head injury, as a result of the crash.

He was initially admitted at Tai Solarin Hospital, Baba Olosha Bus stop, Mushin before he was transferred to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) Idi Araba where Doctors made serious efforts to save his life. He was admitted at the Intensive Care Unit and operated upon, and later moved to the private wing of the hospital.

Doctors worked day and night; we fasted and prayed, but all efforts to save his life proved abortive. We lost him on Thursday April 22, 2010 at 6:00PM.

Dagrin, 26,  was a recording artiste, songwriter, rapper and performer. He was signed to his own label Missofunyin Entertainment and managed by Edlyne Records.

Burial arrangements will be announced by his family soonest.

While we pray the Almighty God grant him eternal rest, we wish to thank his numerous fans and supporters, as well as the media for their unflinching support at this trying period.

We ask that you please continue to pray for his family, especially his parents and siblings. And please only the details contained in this release –jointly issued by his parents and management - should be considered as fact.

Quote of the day

"You can attack me, but please not Ovation because I know it has taken me a lot of blood and sweat. My prayer for those who hate Ovation Magazine and don't like it is, God will never give them Ovation. It is a prayer. It is as simple as that. If you don't like something, then you don't deserve it." Ovation Publisher, Dele Momodu tells City Magazine in a recent interview.

Army, Soldiers, Airforce invade James Ibori's house...

A large detachment of a Joint Force of Mobile Policemen, soldiers from the Army, the Air Force and Navy, plus plain clothes men, believed to belong to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission stormed Chief James Onanefe Ibori's Oghara, Delta State home this evening. They came in seven Hilux Pick Up vans and two Peugeot Expert vans that had all vehicle lights on. They were led by two motor-cycle out-riders.

They harassed and manhandled people they met at Ibori's home before spreading the mayhem they brought with them into Oghara town, making people to run helter-skelter, as there was panic everywhere.
This show of naked despotism and reign of rabid impunity was done despite the Court ruling of 19/4/10 of the Federal High Court, Asaba, that the status quo was maintained. In open court the EFCC counsel made an undertaking that EFCC would maintain the status quo, thus making the Judge not to grant and express court injunction.

Please, Find attached the Court ruling of Monday, April 19, 2010.
The relevant portion, dealing with the status quo is from page seven, paragraph two to page eight.
See details of the relevant portions as quoted verbatim in my earlier statement.

Thanks.
Tony Eluemunor
Media Assistant to Chief Ibori.

 Next Newspapers reports...
Armed Hoodlums ambush police in Ibori chase
'The police team who went to Oghara, the hometown of Mr. Ibori to make the arrest, were, however, ambushed by a group of armed hoodlums who severely manhandled the police officers and beat some of them into coma, the Force Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Ojukwu, confirmed on Tuesday.

According to reports gathered by NEXT, the police convoy, which included Assistant Inspector General of Police, M.D Abubakar, and the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Yakub Alkali, were attacked on the outskirts of the town by armed men who exchanged gun shots with the police.... See More

The police team had to beat a hasty retreat from the town to provide medical care for their wounded.

Mr. Ojukwu said the police was acting on a warrant of arrest issued by an Abuja High Court Monday that it brings in Mr. Ibori for questioning.'

"I pay my girlfriend salary every month" Timaya

"I have a new lover but I don't want to disclose her name. She is a graduate of Madonna University. She's a banker. She's good, beautiful and the best thing that ever happened to me. She was a model before. She worked with Oceanic Bank before in Port Harcourt, but I told her to quit because men usually harass female bankers. Because of that I pay her salary every month. I met her through a friend, Austin, in Port Harcourt. He had always been telling me to come to Port Harcourt to meet this lady. Once again, this girl is everything I want in a lady. I'm not afraid if anybody is reading this. The three things that keeps a woman is - good sex, money and attention. I give her all that" Timaya tells Encomium Weekly in a recent interview...

You wanna know what I think of his statement? I quoted him in different colours...*wink*

Oprah not taking paternity test

“I will not be taking a paternity test, ever!” Oprah Winfrey snapped to The Post outside the Four Seasons hotel in Manhattan after being asked if she would take a DNA test.

You see, the man pictured above, Norh Robinson, an 84-year-old Navy vet who lives in a VA hospital, had told The Post over the weekend that he is her real father. The father who was present in her life was her mother's husband...Vernon Winfrey.

Hmmmm, you see any resemblance?

HHWA: Why Kondo, Free Madness Pt 1, others are missing from the list...

The highly anticipated nominees list of Hip Hop World Awards 2010 was unveiled on Tuesday, April 6,at a brief breakfast event held at the awards secretariat in Lagos. But why were some of the biggest songs of 2009 were missing from the list?

Songs like “Kondo” by Dagrin, “Free Madness part 1” by Terry G, “Choko the Choko” by Sean Tero, Ekaette by Maye Hunta, amongst others were nowhere on the list; and fans and pundits are already wondering and asking “why”?

In a chat with the Secretary of the awards committee, James Silas, he explained that one of the criteria for nomination is that no music materials that encourage fraud, alcohol abuse, narcotics and wanton sex are eligible for nomination, except if said songs have radio-edited versions. You may recall that “Shayo” by Bigiano was also missing from the nominees list in the 2009 edition of the awards for the same reason. “This screening process is our social responsibility and contribution to the sanitization of music in our entertainment industry,” he added.

‘‘Terry G is undoubtedly one of the most controversial artists in Nigeria today, but he was smart enough to make a radio-edited version of “Free Madness Part 1” which made “Free Madness Part 2” eligible for nomination in the song of the year category’’ Silas adds.

In recent times, music of Nigerian origin has been replete with reckless content, glorifying fraud, alcoholism, drug and other substance abuse, sex and get-rich-quick-mania. The NBC-although belatedly- have banned many of these materials, while responsible media organizations are stiffening their NTBB regulations. It is our desire at HHWA, to help encourage artistes to be responsible with the music they churn out; and in cases where they choose to cross the line; to at least provide broadcast edit; and also label albums properly.

The 2010 edition of Hip Hop World Awards will hold on Saturday, May 29 at Eko hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos and the theme is “Power. Prestige. Pride

Genevieve Nnaji sparkles in 'Bursting Out'

Nollywood actress Genevieve Nnaji and Ghanaian actor, Majid Michale have come together again to feature as love birds in one of the latest releases from the popular Royal Arts Academy, this time in Bursting Out, a movie produced by Emem Isong and jointly directly by Desmond Elliot and Daniel Adenimokun.

Bursting Out is about a single woman,Zara Williams, played by Genevieve, on the lookout for love until she meets a mysterious rider, played my Majid.

Zahra has everything a girl could possibly want. Luxury apartment, fleet of cars, beauty, money and success the only thing missing is a man to call her own. Her two married friends Ini and Terna are set on a mission to remedy that by match-making her with the next available eligible bachelor and this leads to disastrous results…or does it? A chance meeting with a certain attractive young man, Tyrone (Majid Michel) sent on an errand to deliver a message from one of her suitors leads to very interesting results...

Look out for that people...
