Sharon Omolayo's kidnapper speaks: "Why I Kidnapped her''

“My name is Oluwadare Akanmu. I have been working with Sharon’s parents for six years now. I was working with the parents from Port Harcourt and they brought me to Lagos and I have been living with them. I am a welder and I want to start life so I went to tell Sharon’s father to assist me with N250,000 so that I can stand on my own. He gave me N40,000 for one of the tools but the money was not enough. So one day, something came over me and I decided to carry Sharon away so that the parents will give me the N500,000 so I can start life.”

Mr. Akanmu said he went to Sharon’s school at about 2.35pm that day, picked her up and took her to his friend, Ibrahim’s house at Alakoko, a Lagos suburb, where he kept her for eight days. He said his N15,000 monthly salary was not enough to sustain him and he decided to kidnap Sharon so that he could demand a ransom of N500,000 to start a welding shop.

“When I took Sharon to my friend’s house, I took care of her and I was asking for N500,000 ransom, but my friends were demanding N10 million. On Monday, I became fed up with the whole kidnap thing and I called Sharon’s father and told him where we were. So that was how police came and arrested me and took Sharon away. I feel bad about what I did,” Mr Akanmu said.

  1. He will surely rest in jail, ungrateful element. How can somebody be so heartless, its an eye opener to all parents not to trust their wards with just anybody.I congratulation the parent and implore them to be more careful with people.

  2. SMH @ this dude. He needs to be executed so others can learn from his foolishness...

Then again, our politicians do the same thing, they hold our nation hostage when they get into office and rob our treasury blind. They need to be executed too...

  6. It’s just a mistake and been deceived by devilish mind, so he needs to be forgiving since he realized his mistakes

  7. Exactly.Atleast the guy has a heart. What he did was not right, but he could have done worse really..Haven't you heard of all these horrible kidnapping situations?..He should serve time in prison to learn from his mistake, but forgiveness can also be given...I mean he was desperate(and stupid).People have done worse.

  8. Though what he did was 100% wrong, if I was in Sharon's dad's shoes, I'd privately give the house help the Naira500,000, tell him never ever to show his face around the family ever again, and I wouldn't press charges against him or his friends. Money makes people do crazy things. He did return the child even though he did not receive the ransom - he was motivated by money, not evil. The life of a loved one is worth more than 500,000 or 10m, 999trillion or retaliation / revenge (prosecution).

  9. You are a coward, you are an ingrate. if you like tender hundred reasons that made you kidnap an innocent girl, you are not going to go free. You must enter kirikiri and spend some kool years behind bars.

  10. Was having a conversation with someone at work and we compared how much the big men in US/UK pay their Domestic Staff..Bodyguards..Chaffeurs.etc...and concluded they do get enumerated quite well and as a consequence there's hardly any need to harbour any evil thoughts..however it's probs only in Nigeria a Billionaire would still pay the staff peanuts..and then get paranoid about the staff..
Not supporting this dude and the family seem like a normal hardworking family..but this are things we need to address..'cos 9jas Employers can be ever so cruel sometimes..

  11. This is what happens when the economy sustains the rich and not the poor masses... no govt support and no education!

  12. adecool, you cant compare how much "big men" in the UK and US pay their employees to how much house helps get paid in Nigeria. Lets start with the government implementing proper minimum wage plans. the U.K and Americas economy cant be compared to that of Nigeria's so they DEFINITELY would not be paid the same thing in a long time. while i understand some employees can be mean to their helps, please understand that this man has a family to feed too. he cant just drop 250,000 naira like that. The man at least gave him 40,000. he should have started from somewhere too. It was simply GREEED that got him where he is today. No child should have to go through being kidnapped.

Honestly try to read between the lines before posting..
I said they sound like a normal working family..
The and I chose my words carefully the so called "Billionaires" have as much money their UK\US Millionaires though how some 9ja Billionaires made their money is not transparent u get me..but comparatively on the same level $$$ wise..and yet still pay crap money to their domestic staff..why??..
No ones comparing society as a whole...
It goes right down to the roots of our pysche..we love people to bow to us..get a thrill looking down on people..not happy seeing people rise above their station..

  15. Lets be glad sharon was found.

What amazes me is the alibi people create as the reason why they do stuff. they guy haven't said why he did it.

Where would he have been able to work freely had he collected the ransom?
