The three children of the Chairman of the Plateau State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Awalu Dankurma, have been abducted by gunmen. They were forcefully taken on Tuesday as they were being driven to school.
The Plateau State Police Commissioner Ikechukwu Aduba who disclosed this at a media briefing in Jos today said the children are aged between two and four. Aduba said the gunmen have contacted the family and made a N20 million naira ransom demand but reduced it to N5 million naira on Wednesday morning.
The Commissioner in the same briefing disclosed that another gang of suspected armed robbers were arrested after they allegedly robbed a house at Rantya low-cost area of Jos where one locally made pistol, four live cartridges, a wallet containing ID cards and other documents were recovered.
Aduba also informed journalists that a member of the Special Task Force (STF), three days ago, stormed a criminal hideout at Ali Kazaure area of Jos and effected the arrest of two suspected armed robbers, Auwal Sule and John Dokotri which led to the confiscation of one locally made pistol with live ammunition, one locally made revolver rifle, a spear and a sword.
The Police Command appealed to Federal and States governments, corporate organizations, NGOs and individuals to provide meaningful jobs opportunities to engage the youths and take their minds away from crime.
let the uselessness begin. i guess this goes to show that kidnapping is now the new crap to get engaged in. i just hope the police does something before Nigeria turns to Brazil.
ReplyDeletebrazil? I thought afghanistan rather than brazil is the kidnap capital of the world! mind you, i visited brazil and was impressed by the scale of economic improvement there- the question we should be asking is, 'when will nigeria's economy start to improve?'. despite brazil's reputation, thousands of tourists continue to visit each year
