Concerned parents in Nigeria have called on the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Association of Movie Producers (AMP) and other stake holders in the film industry, to call popular actors, Chinedu Ikedieze and Osita Iheme aka Aki and Pawpaw, to order.
The concerned parents want the actors to play consistent roles in movies. They either take the role of kids or that of adults. The parents said that since they started as kids in their first movie, a lot of kids at home see them as peers and as a result, imitate most of the things they do in movies. But now the actors take romantic roles and other adult roles that children shouldn't emulate, and the inconsistency is a threat to children who don't want to believe that they are adults. They even did sweet advertisements meant for children.
Sometime last year, the Actor's Guild of Nigeria Board of Trustees headed by Prince Ifeanyi Dike, made a move to ban the actors from taking adult roles, but they were later pardoned when their fans pleaded with the board.

Do you think the concerned parents have a point?
------------------------------------------------------------------------
A very valid point. Really I had to stop watching any movie that these two featured when my 4yr old son is around. Children learn by immitation, those two should be called to order. They are adults, so they should act as such.
ReplyDeleteWats all dis????..They are called 'ACTORS'.......They are prolific and so are able to deliver any part....so abeg they shuld free dem for me jare....I love them...whether as children or as adults....mschewwwwwwww.
ReplyDeletebullshit...let your children understand that Aki and Paw Paw are adults. Why should they get their roles dictated to them because they are 'small men'.Please don't discriminate (or whatever the right term is). If you don't dictate to other actors what roles they should play then don't dictate to AKi and Paw Paw.Respect them and treat them like the adults they are. How do you think they feel acting like kids all the time when they are fully grown MEN!!!
ReplyDeleteNonsense!!! as if your children will not copy what ever they see on tv regardless of who is playing it. Mchew!
well i believe the parents revolt would have come earlier cos if they would have caused any damage at all i think they had enough time to wreck a generation of KID with ACT iin films; but what should be done now is that all the films that they take adult roles should be ban; i think that will be good to hear.
ReplyDeleteDear Linda,it is only in Nigeria that you have such idiocy.People should be responsible enough to distinguish between an an adult movie and a family movie. But of course our people are just so irresponsible and ignorant.
ReplyDeleteWhen somebody wears a mini skirt in Nigerian movies ,you will hear a lot of nonsense about giving Nigeria a bad image.Yet all these people love America in-spite of American porn.
Maybe this is because we are so corrupt. As the proverb goes,"a frail old woman is always made uneasy by any mention of the word basket."
Nollywood films are not meant for children, their themes and content are so mature, therefore I don't see the roles these two choose to play as an issue .....
ReplyDeleteme, i don't watch them and never will i allow my kids watch them ever since i chanced upon a movie where the supposed 'kids' were so wicked, it was appalling...their movies have been a turn-off 4 moi
ReplyDeleteOnly in Nigeria does this kind of thing become news and subject to public outcry. So the country should now start telling people how to make their living wages legitimately?
ReplyDeleteIf Nigerian parents don't want their kids immitating what is the screen, then they should not buy television! Cartoons have violent depictions (tom & jerry, roadrunner, batman, spider man) but these same parents let them watch those, right? Okay, how about all sexual situations in films (kissing, touching etc), those exist in African and western films that are shown on the cable box, no?
Chinedu and Osita are GROWN men doing their jobs as ACTORS,how about these parents hold themselves accountable for their children and what they expose them to? How about explaining to their children that these are ADULTS acting various roles in a film i.e sometimes they act the roles of children because of their height (EXPLAIN TO THE CHILDREN THAT THIS IS A PHYSICAL AILMENT THAT THE ACTORS SUFFER FROM BUT THEY HAVE CHOSEN TO BE STRONG, CONTINUE LIVING THEIR LIVES, MAKE A LIVING AND BE FRUITFUL MEMBERS OF SOCIETY INSTEAD OF ALLOWING THEMSELVES TO BE SHAMED OR OSTRACIZED!) and sometimes they play the roles of adults just like other actors who play good guys in one film but then they are gangsters/badguys in another.
So these guys should not work because parents cannot control what their children watch? So now people go add insult to injury for them, abi? Like it is not enough that they've probably dealt with ridicule most of their lives because of their age?
PARENTS SHOULD RAISE THEIR CHILDREN NOT FILMS, TELEVISION,MUSIC, ACTORS, ACTRESSES or what have you!
I WEAK FOR NIGERIANS O, I WEAK FOR UNA ABEG
This is arrant nonsense ... why would any body want to take advantage of their size .. they are called actors and versitility is one of the characteriostics of a good actor .. they transform to whoever, whenever they are required to do so.. pls these parents should be educated .. the letter or complaint is very disrespectful in my opinion .. not fair .. their roles MUST NOT be limited because of their size which they have no control over. God Bless!!!
ReplyDeleteI don't think they should be subjected to rules that other actors are not just because of their size.
ReplyDeleteOMG!!!this has enraged me....Stupid parents..that is why movies are rated for appropraite viewers. How could actors guild even think of banning those men from acting as adults....is it their fault they are the way they are. Its only in nigeria that such absolute rubbish is heard. They want to strip them of their main source of living....this is absolutely disgustin...i will take it upon myself to make sure that aki and paw-paw get a good lawyer if that ever happens, Nonsense
ReplyDeleteParents watch what ur friggin children are watching. Not every thing is meant 4 them
Even hollwood movies with famous comedians are rated if they contain scenes not meant for young viewers...cos u wont also find it funny if those children never grow in size just as Aki and Paw-paw, and they get discriminated against...
Aki and pawpaw should sue those miserable parents. I agree that their kids might be confused but it is the parent's responsibility to censor the films their kids watch. How dare they? Right now, I am so pissed off on their behalf. Only in Nigeria that such discrimination will even be made public. Absolute nonsense!!!!mschewwww...oversabi parents.
ReplyDelete@ ChiChi Luv.....u said it all i need not comment. support u 100% even thou am not a big fan of them. they ve d right to play anyrole dat pleases dem. they r grown men n not one person should dictate or change thier destiny except God. Parent fix ur children, if they will be bad they will be regardless of this Actors.
ReplyDeleteas parents it is you duty to teach your children, dont expect the society or Aki and Pawpaw to teach them values. You dont stop your kids from watching crap on BET and yet you want to dictate the roles Aki and Pawpaw play????foolery i tell ya!Discrimination!Nonsense....Genevieve and co act as high school students sometime... so whats the big deal.Jide kososko is the brand ambassador for chivita drink and he has bill boards and tv ads with kids, so now we can say that because Jide Kososko is being used to target kids means he shouldnt act adult roles again abi?Jobless parents!
ReplyDeleteWow just wow. So because they are short it is now ok to limit the kinds of roles they can hold???
ReplyDeleteSorry, but the parents need to monitor what their children watch. This is utter nonsense. Parents take some responsibility and monitor your kids!!!!!!
wow! i think Aki and pawpaw can actually sue for discrimination!
ReplyDeleteSo when average actors play teenagers, do the parents complain?
Only in Nigeria!
its very amusing that this should be an issue sef. aren't parents supposed to monitor wot their children watch? i'm not an aki n paw paw fan...but this is pure discrimination as far as i'm concerned, they should be allowed to do their job as "actors". we live in a free society 4 the love of GOd!
ReplyDeleteHere is a tip for those parents:
ReplyDeleteJust because there are characters the age of children in certain movies or shows doesn't mean that said movie/show is designed for kids!!! Duh!
Gosh, there are so many violent movies with kids in them but does that mean you will send your kids to watch them? Use your heads, naw.
Silliness! Its already been said so i wont say much.
ReplyDeleteWe cannot dictate to these guys what they choose to do.
We have a choice to change the channel if you cannot take the time to explain whats going on to the children.
I am not keen on them as actors but thats me. Let them be them joo...
The only reason why we should be worried is if we are forced to watch them, which is not the case, and people don't let TV teach your kids stuff you should.
ReplyDeletei think the parents r wrong. because most films with chinedu and osita are rated 18. and the parents don't look at the film packet. abeg they have no valid reason. that nonsense only happens in nigeria. that's discrimination, cuz they look young, a young child thinks they are young and then parents start complaining? abeg oh. nonsense. i agree with CHICHI LUV. parents shud train their children and not wait for film, tv, or music. RUBBISH! mchew!
ReplyDeleteno they dont have a point at all its very stupid, the are ACTORS, and soo can ACT, any role they feel they can!!!! thats why its called ACTING, in which people take on roles which probably deviate from thier normal personality as a form of entertaintment!!! Nigerians! another reason nigeria is soo backwards!
ReplyDeleteIf they are banned again the both of them should just move to ghana and continue there, Nigerians are gettin a little bit too excited this is borderline control manipulation!
"concerned parents of Nigeria", smh...lool
ReplyDeleteWhen exactly did this start in Nigeria? I know yankee parents always get high blood pressure whenever one of dem disney stars does something mature but these are grown ass 'lil' men. and are actors. To be frank, if you don't want your children imitating bad behaviour, ban television all together. Or better yet raise them up properly to know right from wrong cos trust me, it's not aki and pawpaw that will turn your 'perfect' children bad in the end.
@chcichiluv, it's not only in naija, it has been going on overseas...
:/
Nigerian parents are the most incapable in parenting that i have ever seen (minus all the folks with amazing parents. so if you know your father and mother are amazing don't mind this)
ReplyDeletefirst of all, they complained about Nigerian films showing women with bras on, they said those films should be censored to 18 and above when it was boldly written PG 13. just because they were too lazy to give their children parental guidance and because they are have no boundaries themselves.
then they went on to big brother africa and said, it supported nudity and immorality and they do not want their children to be exposed to it; forgetting that, all DSTV decoders have a parental control feature which helps parents to control the viewing habits of their children but because the average Nigerian parent is irresponsible and cannot stand up to their faults, they made the GOD FORSAKEN NIGERIAN NATIONAL ASSEMBLY to make MNET to "over censor big brother" that now, its so boring and only promotes strife rather than the unity intended by the organizers.
now is CHINEDU and OSITA...lol
if i were then i will sue these parents for defamation of character.
i believe that if you are irresponsible, you shouldn't take it out on external causes when you know too well that its your incapability to do well as a human being.
by the way the pranks this duo does is rather pathetic(no offense) than ingenious and if that is what parent can't handle then i think the parent is a disgrace to his/her generation.
