It's no longer news. Our dear President is dead. He died at about 9pm last night after a prolonged battle with heart problems. His wife was by his side when he died. He was 58 years old
The Federal Government has declared today Thursday May 6th a work free day and also declared seven days of mourning.
Yar'Adua will be buried at 2pm this afternoon in Katsina.
Yar'Adua is the first Nigerian President to die in office.
May his soul rest in peace. Amen
Acting President Jonathan Goodluck will be sworn in as the President at 8am today.
abacha nko? he died in service too na
ReplyDeleteit's a pity he had to go like this but God has His reasons. Sleep in peace my President for i know you could have done better if you had been allowed to follow your conscience.
ReplyDeleteyaradua is not the first nigerian president to die in office, abacha died in office.....
ReplyDeleteAdieu our President! You were a good man surrounded by bad people. May your soul rest in perfect peace.
ReplyDeleteAbacha was a military head of state...I said President....
ReplyDeleteMay he RIP
ReplyDeleteREST IN PEACE..................MIMI
ReplyDeleteerr Linda quite a few presidents died in office. Read the Tribune article.
ReplyDeletehttp://odili.net/news/source/2010/may/6/697.html
@Anon 7:52 and 8:15...
ReplyDeleteYarÁdua is the 1st ELECTED president to die in offfice.Abacha was not an elected president.
He was a good man with good intentions for the country. He unfortunately surrounded himself with useless politicians. May his soul rest in peace.
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda, that clarification was necessary. Whether President, Prime Minister, Head of State or Head of Government, Yaradua is the 2nd Nigerian Leader to die in Aso Rock. Chikena. Love you
ReplyDeletePresident and military head of state na the same Linda.......
ReplyDeleteRest in Peace our Beloved President. Had Turai and the other power mongers allowed you to make a choice,I'm sure you would have opted for resignation when your health started failing you real badly. Likely, you would still be alive today cos the weight of the country's demands would have been off your shoulders, allowing you some rest.
ReplyDeleteomigash you ppl are wicked. So your president has died and all i see is 5 comments thus far and not much of RIP - i mean i know it was expected but still - have a lil remorse (or is it bcos of his annoying wife) - Even many popular 9ja blogs (i wont mention names) - dont have it as their headline like nothing happened. Anyway sha am from Ghana and i stop here to pay my condolence to the loss of your president. I wish you all peace. So now that he is gone - whats next. The whole world is watching.
ReplyDeleteLinda you don goof oooo. Yar'Adua was not the first president to die in office at all. You meant first civilian president to die in office. I think a TV station said he was the 4th or 5th, I'm not sure.
ReplyDeleteLinda, Abacha was addressed as a President not Head of State. What a Gaffe! You are wrong... Even Babangida was a Military President. Yar'Adua was Nigeria's 1st (University) graduate president. Try and cross-check facts all the time. Are you saying Military Presidents do not exit?
ReplyDeletehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sani_Abacha
daddy go slow don die may his soul rest in peace he has gone to join his brother. Now 9ja is in serious trouble
ReplyDeleteabeg jor, the guy don kpai since last year!
ReplyDeletewhy am i not sad?
ReplyDeleteHmmmmm, SO SAD.. But finally , all the drama is over
ReplyDeleterip yaradua,.,u were a very humble man.quiet and easy going!God loves u more!
ReplyDeleteThe late President is Just a Man like we all. A father, a boss , a husband, a friend and a brother to someone. His loss is a geat one to those people and to Nigeria at large
ReplyDeleteLinda, you so know the meaning btw head of state and president yet you cannot cite your image sources.
ReplyDeleteAbacha too died in service....
ReplyDeleteYar'Adua is the 4 frm what i hear... Murtala Muhammed Nko...Abacha and Aguyi Ironsi too. His death was the most respected out of all of them. I remember when Abacha died...there was jubilation on the streets. Sad oh...
ReplyDeleteYar adua is the 5th Nigerian Leader to die in office but the first civilian president. which kain goof i goof? hiss...:-)
ReplyDeletei m deeply pained...he was a very very good man..at heart. good men dont last, shout out to my pops!
ReplyDeletecheck out www.411daily.blogspot.com for pitures of his funeral!
tafawa balewa also died in office - he was prime minister...
ReplyDeletethe death of any man diminishes me.its a pity but death seems to be a neccesary end..RIP Mr Ex president
ReplyDeleteTo the person that said Yar'Adua is the first university graduate president, please go read Naija history. What about Nnamdi Azikiwe. He graduated from an Ivy League University in the U.S in 1933.He had a graduate degree and taught at Lincoln University. He is the first Nigeria President. I am ashamed that some Nigerians don't know their history!! I beg Yar'Adua is not the University graduate President. Lord have mercy!!
ReplyDeleteMaybe you should have said he was the first President-Elect...but I knew what you meant jare.
ReplyDeleteLinda no give false details. He his not the first to die as Nigerian president.Hes the 5th. We have people like Abacha, Tafawabalewa.. Only two died and 3 assassinated. So hes the 2nd. Ok
ReplyDeleterip my beloved president.may God grant u peace wherever u are.Because of you, i had the believe that Nigeria will finally rise.i mourn today as a true nigerian citizen and although you had little opportunity to redeem urself. i am ver happy that u showed that people like u still exist in my country. i will miss u and may God grant u eternal rest.Adieu
ReplyDeleteLove you Lin Lin keep the debate on. At least we have something to talk/write about. RIP Yaradua. Like someone said, you were a human being, husband, father, etc. May your soul rest in peace. Pips allow his soul to rest in peace. After all If you were in Nigeria you got one holiday and for Katsina state, a whole 7 days. God bless Nigeria
ReplyDeleteOur President was indeed a gentle man...rest in peace.
ReplyDeleteYou did not write "civilian president" until now so you still goofed, hiss!!! There are two major types of Presidents.
ReplyDeleteLinda goofed? yes...
ReplyDeleteFree Linda abeg...how many times will she explain...and her explanation is valid... she "goofed"...ok lets have a party and celebrate...hiss...as for the ghana person that said "you people are wicked" na you get your mouth, you fit use am talk any nonsense...
ReplyDeleteLinda! Linda!! Linda!!!
ReplyDeletehow many time did i call you?
so the reson why Yaradua refused to resigned was to die in office at the expense of Nigerians in other to win our sympathy?
Have you forgotten what Nigerians went through when this man was sick. Besides, they never for one day admitted that he was terminally sick. He may be a nice man but he left very little positive to be remebered for . H e had opportunity to write his name in gold but surounded himself with fraudulent politicians. At a point i started to imagine is it was the same yaradua i know while serving as a youth corper in katsina then He was A governor. Power in indeed corrupts! I hope jonathan will have some thing to learn. Leadership is an opportnity from God and I believe that when it comes, we should try to use it to serve the best interest of the people. If Yaradua had listened to the advice of his Doctors, and resign, He may still be alive today.
goodness gracious! She has mentioned repeatedly that he was the first President (i.e. elected to office)to die in office. Which is what a President actually is, and totally different from whatever self-styled accolades by Abacha or IBB addressed themselves.
ReplyDeleteO.k Linda make I assist you so that people will understand what you were saying: the "First President-not-a-Prime-Minster-elected-into-office-through-democratic-elections-and-not-through-will-of-military-force-who-by-the-way-is-also-a-graduate-of-a-Nigerian-university" has passed away.
Whatever his faults or the faults of his family, they are experiencing a hard loss right now and I pray God sees them through it all.
@IB, please go to AIT and abuse them because AIT said Yar'Adua was Nigeria's first graduate president and 5th president to die in office. After that come back to yab. Ha ha ha!
ReplyDelete@tnaike, it does not matter how they died as long as they died in the office. Are you laughing? Linda loves controversy and it is good for our brains o. Linda ride on...
I weep for my beloved President Umaru Yaradua. You were a trully a good man, but surrounded by terrible people. May ur gentle and humble soul rest in peace.....
ReplyDeleteI will mioss you.
Millitary leader of a country= head of state
ReplyDeletePresident Elect= Elected president not yet sworn in.
President= Democratically elected civillian leader of a country.
Babangida aka IBB= Head of State. He's still trying to be a president, until then, ex Head of State.
Technically, we've not had plenty presidents(which means civillian democratic leaders) yet- talkless of those who've died in office.
So if you goofed, now you know.
Linda, I beg eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, blog something new or are you doing 7 days of mourning? A ThisDay columnist said that the new First Lady wept as if the world would fall. No bi crocodile tears? As for me, I no go mourn at all because na the ARROW OF GOD ala Chinua Achebe. Yar'Adua suffered until he died. It is unfortunate that he was kept in bondage.
ReplyDeleteIn the Queen's reported condolence message to Nigeria by AP, the post of President was called HEAD OF STATE. What does that mean? It means that Yar'Adua was not properly elected. Yar'Adua once said so too.
ReplyDeleteShagari was also a civilian president so how could Yar'Adua be your first president? Shagari is Nigeria's first civilian and democratically election President despite allegations of fraudulent votes like Yar'Adua's...
yea we know
ReplyDeleterip daddy yardie
now please can u update ur blog?
im kinda sick of seeing this each time i land here
thank you
@Matt she originally said "First President to die in office" as far as we know, Shagari did not die in office. Please try to keep up...
ReplyDeleteWas he the first to die in office? hhhmmmmm
ReplyDeleteRIP MR HEAD OF STATE....PRESIDENT....WATEVER....ALL NA TITLE DAT DOES NOT HAVE ANYTIN TO DO WITH THE KINGDOM OG GOD WHICH I BELIEVE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT IN A MAN'S LIFE BE U A MESSENGER OR A PRESIDENT.
ReplyDeleteLOVE FOR POWER AND UNDECISIVENESS CAUSED YARADUA ALL D PROBLEMS HE HAD.
IN THE FIRST PLACE,IF HE HAD BEEN CAREFUL WITH THE KIND OF PEOPLE THAT SURROUNDED HIM,ALL THESE WONT HAVE BEEN SO TERRIBLE.
I HOPE THIS IS A LESSON TO THOSE OF US LEFT BEHIND.
MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PERFECT PEACE.
