33 Nude Dancers Arrested After Raid By Task Force

Story/Pix by Simon Ateba, Kazeem Ugbodaga & Paul Sanusi of PM News

Following the expose of the nefarious activities at Lagos nude clubs, where young ladies dance stark naked and practice live sex on stage to entertain their patrons, the state government has wielded the big stick by shutting them down.

The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Monitoring Unit which raided the four strip clubs on the Opebi-Allen axis of Ikeja also arrested 33 naked dancers and two of the clubs’ managers.

The four nude clubs are Club Unique, Wallstreet, Cazzbah and Magic City formerly known as Ocean Blue.

Club Unique is on Ogundana Street off Allen Avenue while Wallstreet is located at 70B Allen Avenue. Magic City, formerly called Ocean Blue, is located adjacent to Sweet Sensation Bus Stop and Cazzbah is adjacent to Opebi Bus Stop.

•Some of the strip dancers arrested during the raid.

P.M.News gathered that before the raids on the clubs were carried out, some task force officials had visited the clubs disguised as patrons. They monitored the clubs’activities for a night before raiding them in the wee hours of the following day.

Chairman, Lagos State Environmental Taskforce, Mr. Bayo Sulaiman, told P.M.News that the state government shut the clubs as a result of public outcry over their existence.

Sulaiman added that most of the clubs had become hideouts for criminals and undesirable elements.
He stressed that the strip clubs were not registered and were not regulated.

Immediately the report over the activities of the nude clubs was published, the Archbishop of Lagos State, Anthony Cardinal Okogie, lamented that evil has completely taken over Lagos and called on Governor Babatunde Fashola to act immediately to arrest the trend by shutting them down.

“Evil has taken over in Lagos State. The way things are going, when girls of between the ages of 15 and 25 dance nude and throw caution to the wind with boys and men watching them, then they are sending a wrong signal to the society. It portends danger. We are sitting on a loaded gun,” said Okogie, in a statement signed by the Director of Social Communications, Lagos State, Reverend Gabriel Osu.

Okogie called on Fashola to act now because the strip clubs are on the increase, while those shut earlier had re-opened with impunity and with a change of name.

“I hope this is not making mockery of Lagos as mega-city, Centre of Excellence and City of Aquatic Splendour,” he said.
While some Lagosians called on the state government not to shut the strip clubs but simply regulate them as adult fun exists in all mega cities, most people kicked against their existence and simply called on Governor Fashola to close them down.

P.M.News learnt that the arrest of strip dancers was dramatic as they did not expect the taskforce visit them in the night.

A 24-year Ghanaian lady,Traore Anida, who was among the strippers arrested during the busting of the club, said she started the job a month ago because she was desperately in need of fund to go back to her country.
She said that she was brought to Nigeria by a woman whom she said is based in the Republic of Benin.
“I need money to go back to my country and there is no other work I can do to get the money fast. That is why I joined the job,” Anida stated.

Emma Ofor, manager of Club Unique who was arrested along with the 33 strippers, said that he joined the club in January this year, adding that poverty made him to accept the offer. Offor said that he could not reject the offer as he was in desperate need of a job.

“That is the circumstance I found myself and it is because of my situation. I was desperately in need of job when the offer came and I just had to accept it.”
Goddy Benjamin, manager of Wall Street Club who was also arrested along with the strippers denied that ladies go naked in the clubs to entertain patrons.

However, P.M.News was there several times, when young girls danced stark naked to entertain guests at Wallstreet.
Benjamin stated that the activities at the club are regulated and the club obtained licence from local government for its operation.

“Ladies in my club do not go naked. They do not dance naked. They always cover their body, they are just like other models and nobody harasses them. My ladies do not dance naked,” Benjamin claimed. However, P.M.News can confirm that the statement is inaccurate.

The Task Force Chairman has called on the general public to supply the outfit with more information on where strip clubs operate.

“We want more information from members of the public of the location of more of such club houses,

  1. If they want to be strippers and make money out of it, that's their prerogative. Strippers don't have a good name anywhere. What i personally have a problem with is why someone felt the need to take a picture of those girls and then put it on line. Clicking on the picture takes u to facebook. Like there aren't humiliated enough.

  4. A government that has not done all it can do to help its people has the effrontery to raid a strip club.A government whose citizen get killed by police yet nothing is ever done, students cannot go to school because of strike,s people die on deadly roads everyday have the guts to go close down a stripper club, military/naval officers harrass female citizen, beat them and tear their outfits. The same bloody men who pick up girls young enough to be their daughters, the same government that embezzles money! JESUS TAKE THE FREAKING WHEEL...The comment on the facebook picture are so retarded "what are our young girls turning into" how about the actions of Our Men since time immemorial, it just has to be about the women...The same way the government has stood up to clean the country of "immoral act" is the same way the citizens should stand up and demand their rights from these corrupt animals.

Linda it'd be nice if you took down the picture and not further perpetuate the crap.

  8. Nigerians are the most hypocritical people I have ever seen! Every Sunday, u see a lot of people in church, as soon as they leave church, they are something else. HYPOCRITES!!!

A lot of Nigerians, especially the leaders are VERY VERY PROMISCOUS, the things a lot of Nigerians do behind closed doors are... beyond description. So for them to go humiliating these girls earning a living by striping, is despicable, hypocritical and an infringement upon their human rights.

If our country is going to grow, we should start allowing people some form of freedom. I know it's not our culture to sell sex or dance half nude, but abeg, if people have the proper license to run strip clubs, then the government should allow them!

  9. Always turn to God in any situations concerning finance, health, welfare etc but not to the to strip clubs. Words of Bible should be taught strictly to the women involved in this kind of work and the bosses and owners to be heavily fined and also be taught bible everyday.
    Repent before being too late!

  10. there are no such thing as innocence if its concerning strip joints, pornography, crime, abuse etc.

Why not teach tuition to young students or sell mama food instead?
These women who are upright lazy, just wanna make fast buck and the owners of clubs making use of woman flesh for patrons pleasure.

more pictures should come to public so women will have second thoughts of their actions and decisions!! Kudos Linda!

  15. there you go again blaming linda for sharing information. please direct your anger/frustration at the appropriate people. Nigerians just like to take "beer parlor" approach to everything even when it pinches them directly. Harrass your representatives/local govt chairmen/senators/governor with letters. let them know where you stand on issues. The Bible says if a man cries day and night for something, the judge or person concerned will have no option but to give in eventually. If you disturb these government officials enough, they will finally do something positive.

  16. Haba anon, this is just Linda's blog...she does make a point..the faces are covered. Now to the matter at hand, I am God and I can't judge but I think strip clubs have no place in our society. We are quick to want to embrace things that we see in developed nations (and don't give me the "this has been going on for ages thing). If we really look at the problems that our world is facing today, it stems from our need to exercise freedom to introduce all kinds of "freedoms".
My two cents is I hope the women will be ok, and I hope the men and women that open these strip clubs will stop being a part of what is destroying us as a people (world etc).
This is sad and in a way I like that our govt (no matter how two faced they are) took a stand against it. On the other hand, punishment is not what these women need...they need jobs!!

  17. @ Vera who says its not in our culture to sell sex. Prostituion is one of the oldest occupation and prostitution came to Africa just like christianity and islam. Anyways its not just wrong to arrest the girls but posting their nude pictures is worst, Nigerians this is the 21st century.....there is nothing wrong with strip clubs as long as they are doing their business behind closed doors. Morality......what is the different between Revs having sex with boys and some religious leaders impregnating church members and the strip club patrons.
Lets face the problem of oppression, hunger, and other pressing social problem besides the Ashewos......Whether you chose to be police(Egunje master or Ashewo is your choice.

How many of these officials that sanctioned the arrest,or Govt officials that would not provide for its citizens, would raise up their hands and say they have not or do not patronize prostitutes or corporate prostitutes as they would call them.THEY GOVT ARE JUST A BUNCH OF HOPELESS THUGS LOOKING FOR INNOCENT CITIZENS TO INTIMIDATE.Go to the streets and under the bridges and arrest thugs, thieves and armed robbers. Those are the threats to lives and not these people looking for food to eat by working the best way they can,so that they wont be kidnappers, robbers, ritualist, etc.Abeg Govt give me a break.
