2009 Miss Earth Nigeria dethroned

Nkesi Gift Okandu was crowned Miss Earth Nigeria on September 12th 2009. But on Sept 28, she was dethroned and the 1st runner up crowned. When contacted, the organiser of the pageant Ms Ibinabo Fiberesima had this to say about why the new queen was dethroned so quickly...

"The girl does not have a passport, and I had a deadline to submit my delegate from Nigeria. The first runner up then submitted her own passport details and I submitted hers to meet my dead line. I then offered the girl that won to go to Miss Globe in Albania. She agreed because that's what we have on our contract. The next day I started getting threatening calls from her family that I have no right to substitute the winner. I tried to explain why I didn't have a choice, but the more I explained, the more threats I got saying, I don't love my life and I should remember I have children and this is Port Harcourt. They said they don't think I value my life. After all the threats, I had a meeting with my directors and we decided to dethrone her and make the 1st runner-up our queen". *

  2. Its the pageant organisation that is incompetent. How do you not check if the winner has a passport or not, or get her one.

Is it by force to start beauty pageant

    Nonesense

  3. WOW...na so PH dey? as in with those life threats "...this is Port Harcourt".
Hmm, anyway if needing a passport was a requirement for the pageant, they should've told the girls beforehand to have passports for the event. Not to now dethrone someone on such trivial grounds. It is not the girl's fault that she didn't have one. It's not like she did anything wrong or illegal. Abeg...what's up with the arbitrary selection of her runner-up. If they said anywhere in their contract that the lack of a passport disqualifies someone; then she shouldn't have won in the 1st place.

*hiss* - just dashing peoples hopes & dreams. But then again, this doesn't justify the death threats.

  7. All hail Nigeria,i cant believe that Ibinabo, who is supposed to be in Jail is making news again.she should be keeping a low proile rite now. About passports, its a big shame on the organisers cos they should have arranged for all the girls to have passports b4 the competition.

  9. I don't blame Ibinabo if she feels threatened by the family of the winner and in fairness, she did offer her the option of going to Miss Globe in Albania. I don't think the issue was over having or not having a passport but by the fact that Miss Fibresima felt her life was in danger.

  10. PEOPLE SHOULD LEARN TO BE FAIR IN THEIR ACTIONS. WHAT SIN HAS THE INNOCENT GIRL COMMITED TO BE DETHRONED. THE ORGANISERS SHOULD HAVE INFORMED THE CONTESTANTS OF THE NEED TO OBTAIN A VALID PASSPORT. THIS WAS NOT DONE. THE WORLD IS LISTENING AND WATCHING. IBINABO, YOU ARE VERY VERY WICKED. POSTERITY WILL NEVER FORGIVE U FOR THIS ACT OF ROBBERY.

  11. well, have you seen a picture of Modesta Alozie? the girl is stunning, which probably goes a long way toward explaining Ibinabo's action though it might have been better if she had just chosen this girl in the first place! I know Ibinabo has hit the jackpot with this one, so I say go girl, fly Nigeria's flag!

  12. From what has been reported the original winner did submit her passport on time, but Ibinabo wanted her to represent Nigeria in a previously undisclosed international pageant while the runner-up would represent Nigeria in the Miss Earth pageant. When the original winner refused, she was summarily dismissed and accused of being rude. I think that Ibanibo wanted the runner up to win the contest and when she did not, Ibanibo tried to find a way to get what she wants instead of abiding by the judges' decision as to the winner. Now that it has blown up in her face, Ibanibo, is trying to twist words to make it seem as if she is the victim. This Ibanibo woman just strikes me as a destructive personality all around and ugly, both inside and out. I don't even see why she was ever crowned a beauty queen because she is not physically beautiful, just light-skinned which is not tantamount to beauty. Of course, in Naija light skin equals beauty and we ignore actual features. She deserves whatever is coming to her. My prayer is with the actual winner. May she find a way to overcome this disappointment.

  13. this is pure rubbish..... i dare say the pageant directors are the ones at fault here becos they are surpossed to know the dead line for submitting candidates details and prepared the winner for this...if she diidnt have a passport why didi you wait till the deadline day to ask her for one? that is just a made up story.
all thes competitions in niaja na way oh. the problem is that the organisers dont know what they are doig..they just looking for girls to make money out off.

  14. We are always too quick to insult and abuse persons or people when issues like this arise. Nkesi can not deny the fact that she and other contestant were duly informed to get their passports ready, as the winner and runner ups will need to send their details immedietly after crowning. why Nkesi refused to abide is best known to her, or are you saying that they other contestants where informed and she wasnt. there is a deadline that needed to be met otherwise the organisers will loose its franchise so they took the decision they took and offerd her to go for the miss globe international, while her price as the queen remains, but i guess she was ill advised and started threating the person of Ibinabo, it was at this point that the decision to strip her of all entitlement came up. it wasn't anything personal and if she is sincere she will confirm this. As i write, the contestant representing Nigeria for Miss Globe had left the shores of this country to do our country proud. for those of you that think that any of this pageant is better than the other , you are wrong, as they are all international and have almost the same price money and contracts. As for those who have called the organisers incompetent, international passports are not carried about all the time, you can only produce when asked, and if the contestants say they have, you dont send them packing from camp to go and bring them, i know you havent organised any, so you ask questions and dont make insulting comments. As for those calling for Ibinabo's incaseration in our prison, all i can say is this" becareful what you wish others, as what goes round comes around" fellow 9jirians learn to discuss issues and stop using abusive words. thanks

  15. well,i was there at presidential hotel p.h and saw how the ist runner up,modesta alozie answererd her questions so well that the crowd was so happy to see that some beautiful girls could still be very intelligent,i was so dissaponted when nkesi won,but the problem is from IB she should ve crowned modesta in the first place,i do not know so much about modesta but i heard she is a very bright student in the department of biochemistry imo state university owerri and has also gone far in pageantry.,but what ever,IB should ve crowned her.even the contestants were not happy about it.anyway,i hate this miss earth peageant because this IB is a crooke and always has problems with her queens because she doesent pay them, just sends them outside for contest and when they come back, thats all.im saying what i knw because my sister has once won that crown n believe me she has nothing, not even a car,we even paid for her shopping which she used to represent the country, this ib of a woman is just so fake,God help her.not even a car does she provide for a whole miss earth peageant where even the miss of a common university has a car, miss earth my foot!
