THE WORLD'S WORST SERIAL KILLERS.

Pedro Alonso Lopez - 300+ murders
Where: Peru, Colombia and Ecuador
When: 1970s
By 1978, it's reckoned the "Monster of the Andes" had butchered 100 girls in Peru. Moving to Colombia then Ecuador he peaked with three kills a week. In 1980 he was arrested and began identifying 50 burial sites before a flash flood uncovered a mass grave. In an interview from his prison cell, he described himself as "the man of the century".

Henry Lee Lucas and Ottis Toole - 200+ murders
Where: All over America

When: 1964 to 1979

Henry's mum once sent him to school in girls' clothing so he killed her and abused the corpse. Later he went to work with Ottis Toole, a psychotic cannibal, randomly killing hitchhikers.


Harold Shipman - 250 murders
Where: Hyde, Greater Manchester

When: 1970s to 1998

Shipman murdered elderly women who lived alone and were otherwise healthly. He was caught after badly forging a will in the name of the victim and killed himself in 2004. He never revealed the exact number of people he murdered although the figure is believed to be near or over 250 victims.


Dr H H Holmes - 200 murders
Where: Chicago, US

When: 1890s

Holmes built a 100-room house full of gas chambers, trap doors, acid vats and lime pits. He rented rooms out, forced the occupants to sign over their savings then threw them down an elevator shaft before gassing them.

Donald "Pee Wee" Gaskins - 100+ murders
Where: South Carolina, US

When: 1960s

In prison Pee Wee was frequently abused and finally snapped, killing a murderer while the man was sat on the toilet. Released in 1969, he began to carry out two varieties of killings, random ones for pleasure and the less fun "serious" murders of people he didn't like.

Delfina and Maria de Jesus Gonzales - 91 murders
Where: Guanajuato, Mexico
When: 1960s
Sisters Delfina and Maria de Jesus Gonzales, owners of a Mexican brothel, killed the prostitutes they recruited and an unknown number of clients. They were arrested in 1964 after police found the bodies of 91 people during a raid on the bordello. They were sentenced to 40 years in prison.


Andrei Chikatilo - 53 murders
Where: All over Russia

When: 1978 to 1990

Russia's premier serial killer of the last century was Andrei Chitatilo. Chikatilo grew up believing his older brother been kidnapped and eaten during the great Ukrainian famine of the early 1930s. Over a 12-year reign of terror the "Rostov Ripper" took the lives of 53 women and children.


Anatoly Onoprienko - 52 murders
Where: Ukraine

When: 1989 to 1996

As well as being known as the "Beast of Ukraine", Anatoly Onoprienko was nicknamed "The Terminator" by the police. Having confessed to 52 murders at his trial in 1998, Onoprienko issued a statement claiming he wanted to hold the world record for killing.

Fred and Rose West - 23 murders
Where: Gloucester, England

When: 1967 to 1987

Fred and Rose West are two of Britain's most notorious serial killers. Fred West killed 13 women and girls including his first wife and two of his daughters. He hanged himself in prison on New Year's Day 1995. Rose West is serving a life sentence having been convicted of 10 murders.


Pietro Pacciani - 16 murders
Where: Florence, Italy

When: 1968 to 1985

Pietro Pacciani, the "Monster of Florence", was convicted in 1994 of murdering eight couples in lovers' lanes near Florence. Pacciani was given 16 life sentences but died of a heart attack in February 1998, while awaiting a retrial.

  1. c'mon linda!....i live in TX and u have actually kept me abreast with issues back home that they brighten my day......But serial killers????na...ah....too gloomy/dark and depressing.

  5. Hmmm...i wonder what goes on in these people's minds to commit such atrocious acts?

    To those who're saying 'it's not a naija thing' or it's too gloomy, whether u like it or not, things like dis will continue to happen. And pls don't tell me dat such things don't happen back home, what of those dat do 'gbomo-gbomo' for a living, those who kidnap people and use them for rituals. Unfortunately,some people will continue to do evil.
