DSS uncovers plot by terrorists to attack Kano, Kaduna, Sokoto, others during Sallah celebration

The State Security Service on Friday, said it arrested suspected terrorists planning to launch coordinated attacks in Kano, Kaduna, Maiduguri, others, during the Eid-el-Fitr celebration.

Spokesperson for the service, Tony Opuiyo, who made the disclosure in Abuja, said two suspects identified as Yusuf Adamu and Abdulmuminu Haladu were arrested in Sokoto in connection with the plot in the early hours of Friday.

Dino Melaye files lawsuit against INEC, alleges dead people signed his recall petition

Embattled Senator Dino Melaye has filed a lawsuit against INEC at the Federal High Court in Abuja, over recent moves by the electorates in his constituency to recall him from the senate.  Dino disclosed this on twitter Friday evening. He shared the photo of a copy of the court paper. He alleged that dead persons were some of the signatories to the recall letter collated and sent to INEC on Thursday.

Supreme Court sacks Taraba Senator, Sani Danladi, orders him to refund all salaries, allowances earned within 90 days

The Supreme Court has ordered the Senator representing Taraba North Senatorial District, Sani Abubakar Danladi to vacate the seat immediately and refund all salaries and allowances he received within 90 days.

Supreme Court sacks House of Representatives member, Herman Hembe

The Supreme Court sitting in Abuja, has declared the seat of the lawmaker representing Vandikwa/ Konshisha constituency at the federal house of representatives, Honorable Herman Hembe vacant.

The court ruled that Mrs Dorathy Mato won the APC primaries for the constituency and should have been fielded by the party during the 2015 election. The court in its ruling ordered Hon. Hembe to return all salaries and benefits collected while in office within 90 days.

Breaking: Five people electrocuted in Turkish water park

5 people died today after getting electrocuted at a Turkish water park. The victims were swimming in a pool in the town of Akyazi, in Sakarya province when an electric current shot through it.

Among those who died were two teenagers and a 12-year-old. The remaining two victims are the park's manager and his son who dived into the water to try and save the children.

Again, 174 Nigerians return from Libya

On Wednesday June 21, 2017 the National Emergency Management Agency, alongside other Federal Government agencies received another batch of 174 Nigerians that voluntarily returned from Libya at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.  

The returnees, who came back aboard a chartered Nouvelair aircraft with registration number TS-INA, are 34 males, 122 females, 10 children and 9 infants.

A Nigerian mother resident in Port Harcourt has put out a cry for help asking Nigerians to help her find her son and daughter who she said were abducted by policemen. Jane Tubotamuno Kayode said she had been taking 10-year-old Asiwaju Kayode and 8-year-old Emijuwon to school when some police vehicle cornered her and one of the men threatened her then drove the car to the SCID Rivers State Police Command and from there, they took her children away.

The Inspector General of Police,  Ibrahim Idris, has attributed the arrest of Chukwujeme Onwamadike, the suspected kidnapper popularly known as Evans, to information sharing and intelligence cooperation among police services in West Africa.

 "Information sharing is crucial to tackling the menace of trans-border crimes in West Africa; it is through such exchange that we were able to nab a Ghanaian/Nigerian kidnapper two weeks ago, after evading arrest for many years,” Idris said on Wednesday.
