Photos of two Nigerian children crying after their mother died in the Mediterranean on their way to Europe

Two Nigerian siblings, 11 and 10 are pictured crying after their mother died in the Mediterranean on their way to Europe. The two children were among 150 migrants rescued from their overcrowded rubber boat off the coast of Libya while trying to cross the Mediterranean ocean into Italy by a Spanish NGO’s boat. More photos after the cut...

    5. What are you people doing in Europe? You cant even speak their language. Nigerians chill in your country. Things will get better. Our greedy leaders have been looting our money that would have made Nigeria better but now that Buhari has come to stop the corruption, things will get better. So be patient.

  2. OMG! People get it wrong. The grass may not be greener on the other side. All it takes is hardwork and endurance. I feel for these kids. Those of us that are still in this country doesn't mean we're okay or happy, but we are a resilient lot. #SadMuch

    1. You really don't have any common sense. Did Nigerians just start trying to cross to Europe through Libya? You are pathetic and very imbecilic in your reasoning. Go and buy a brain or something. Oponu

A lot of people are choosing to run because they are told false stories about " living abroad". Are there not people living in borno? You need to make more informed statements please.

I don't think you guys get it asking why their mother did this who wants to stay in a mentally redundant country like nigeria she was trying to give them a better life our government should be embarrassed that they can't take care of our basic needs hence the mass movement of people out of this hell hole called nigeria!!!tufiakwa

  46. We truly need GOD in Nigeria. We are far better than Italy and most of the European countries, yet our leaders decides our fate. Until Nigerians speak with one voice, we are only going to be beneath. We are clueless animals fearing for our lives that has destination yet. We are humans without direction. We are programmed to complain and no action. We just read news and carry on. Drink beer, chase women and men, run around to make money for our families forgetting that we will die and leave the kids alone to this same leaders. We need to turn to GOD. Turn to GOD NIGERIANS. TURN TO HIM cos HE is the only solution to our land. God save nigeria!! God bless Nigerians !!!! Stay safe...

  53. I crossed the Mediterranean in a ferry just yesterday from Delos island to Mykonos, Greece and the sea was so rough, and that was just a 20 minutes ride. Anybody who is taking the journey from Africa to Europe across the Mediterranean, just know the sea has no mercy. My heart goes out to these two boys, may life be kind to you both without a mother in this wicked world. Life! To live it and survive its horrors is a feat in itself. May we all be reborn in a better world.
